  1. Why? If I want to go somewhere, I'll take the LeMans. I've said before that I've had 2 Beemers, but I'm a slow learner. That's why they make all kinds, of course, but *in my opinion* BMWs, especially airheads are about as much fun as watching grass grow. No offense intended..
  2. First.. you say that when you take the jumpers off the bike dies. That *probably* means that the battery in the bike is completely toast. Now. Don't do that again. If the bike's battery can't absorb the spike in voltage that the alternator puts out, it can smoke the ecu. (computer) Expen$ive. The battery in a VllS will not be cheap. Because it has to lay down, it needs to be a gel or AGM. If OC in your address means Orange County, Kalifornia.. you're in luck. There are many knowledgeable dealers and riders in SoCal. I'll be out in South LA in a couple of weeks..
  3. Thanks. That's where I'm leaning. I was concerned about the paint, too. I've read the issues but can't tell how significant they are. One year newer and 20K fewer miles makes sense to me but I wanted to make sure I'm not missing something special about the LM (vis a vis a BMW R90S much more sought after than R90 or R100). Ride a LeMans and a R90S back to back, and you'll throw rocks at the Beemer. Well, I would, anyway. I have a hot rodded 02 Scura and an 03 Rosso Corsa, and can say that the only difference between the two is the weather protection. If you like the weather protection on the R90S, you'll love the LeMans. Depends on what you want to do with it.
  4. When I first came on here and used the search it seemed to give me 200 unrelated posts. Finally realized you needed to use relevance on the search..
  5. The only problem I had on Rosie was getting one of those electrical connectors apart. Apparently,it had never been unhooked, and it gave me a battle.
  6. Ahhh, you saw through my plan..
  7. I fell in love with the Greenie when I first saw one. My son has one, it has cans, crossover, PC3, and brass temp sensor holder. Runs really well.
  8. Well, it certainly *could* be. You can see that the short one is either cut or broken on one end. From a production standpoint, a defective shift drum is more unlikely.. So. Have you tried the longer spring? If it shifts fine on the bench, it'll shift even better when installed..

  10. Needs pink louvers in the oil cooler..
  11. The Scura (x Roper hot rod) lives in SoCal at the grand kids house, and is the reason I fell in love with V11s to start with. Wished I had it in Indiana where I spend most of my time. Then thought, "If I would get rid of the Norge, which I don't like as well, I could get a LeMans and have the best of both worlds." Started watching for a Nero or Rosso, and Rosie is the first one that was feasible to get.
  12. Here she is after rubbing out and a Zaino job. Went from hazy, lightly scratched and paint splotched to this.. Zaino's da bomb..
  13. Wildgoose.Chase Moto Guzzi Discussion Forum ***UPDATE*** 11-15-2011 A new server is being built at this time to better accommodate the growth we have seen. I hope to have the new server online by 11-19-11. The new server is not free, nor cheap and neither is the support we need. It should serve us well into the future. Donations are appreciated to help with expenses. Checks/Money order can be sent to: Luap McKeever C/O Wildguzzi 1048 McNelly Road Seligman MO 65745 The server costs roughly $200 per month to maintain. Without donations, it could vanish indefinitely. As always...thanks for your support and patience during this time of expansion. Thanks, Luap McKeever
  14. Well, if all you are going to do is commute, I'd think that the stock suspension would be more than fine. I've read that the Ohlins are more maintenance intensive if you are putting big mileage on them. dunno. That said, I have a Scura and a Rosso Corsa. I didn't really give any more money for them than a nice non Ohlins equipped V11, but... you have to be patient for the right one to turn up. I see that there's a well equipped LeMans for sale in SoCal on this board as we speak.
  15. Your explanations are invaluable, Roy.. thanks!
  16. I'm finishing up the rehab/servicing of Rosie the Rosso Corsa and needed to grease that stinking front u-joint. I'd had a Centauro for several years, and thought, "Oh, no problemo.." Needless to say, I had problems. Searched all the threads on it I could find here, and looked for the lubrimatic adjustable nozzle. Apparently, it's out of production. Ace hardware doesn't list it, at any rate, and it looks like possibly Plews has bought out Lubrimatic. More signs of the times, but I digress. So.. I made up the angled adapter and ground the nozzle per this site. Failed experiments in the background.. Nada. Thought, other people have done this without taking the motorcycle apart, surely I can, too?? Maybe if she is on a work stand the rear will drop enough to let that nozzle get in there.. so, yesterday I made one. Ok, let's give it another go.. put the nozzle and adapter on a flexible hose, stuck it in there and it went "snick". WTF?? First try. Gave the grease gun a couple of squeezes and heard that sound I've been listening for. Fresh new grease in a small line around the cross. Woo Hoo! I don't think anyone has mentioned that the V11 needs to be on a work stand for the angled adapter to work. Today is probably one of the last riding days this year, so I'm off. Didn't want to go any farther until I had that obviously dry u joint lubed..
  17. Yeah, I have some. Good stuff.
  18. Ok. Brad used to be a pro painter, but is a helicopter mechanic now, and doesn't paint any more. He *has* done some nice paint work though. I thought it was hopeless, but he looked at it for a bit, got some lacquer thinner and a coarse shop cloth and started going after the paint splatters. They came right off, but left the clear coat dull everywhere he'd been. Then we went to AutoZone, and he opened several bottles of polishing compound and rubbed it with his fingers, saying "this one ought to do it." It's Meguiars Ultimate Compound. Masked off the fuel cap so stuff didn't get all around it, and spread towels over other stuff for the same reason. Applied the compound liberally, and went at it with the buffer. He said that stuff like this *needs* to be put on with a swirling motion. I dunno. Cleaned it up with new micro fiber towels, and it looks better than new.. In the picture, there's no wax on it, so I expect she'll really look good with some detailing. He's a good boy...
  19. Sorry, I've not been on this site for a while. If someone else wants it, they are welcome to it of course..
  20. Caliper covers? Well, they don't use em on the front.. After an intensive service/rehab Son Brad (Greenie V11S) came down from Wisconsin and worked his magic on the zip tied together fairing/white paint splotched tank and we have the first roll out Sounds great, runs great, has a gel seat that I didn't notice at first. I'm in lust..
  21. Sure, I'll take it..
  22. Keith did you use MG special tools during the operation or fabricate or buy generic ones? Yup I think it looks great, just want Micha and Pete Roper's opinions of twin vs single plate replacement. Pete? I have Pete's Scura, and he had the single plate changed out before he took delivery. He told me that while some people don't seem to have any trouble with them, he didn't want it to blow up when he was out in urine drinking country in the west..
  23. I used Caswell's epoxy on an "unrepairable" Quota tank with great results..
