  1. +1 to the belts. You *don't* want to have one break..
  2. I have one for the rear caliper if you want it................... I've found one for the rear. Still looking for fronts. Made Rosie some bling yesterday..
  3. By the way, the previous owner decided that the Rosso didn't need caliper covers. Any leads on where to find them?
  4. I am always amazed at what people are willing to live with instead of spending a few more dollars and doing it correctly...I mean really, even if this worked the instant after he 'finished' the job, it probably stopped working thirty seconds after the bike started rolling. That's probably about the right time frame. The lights on the back off came on, but that was it. No tail, brake, license, or turn signals. He'd decided to take power off the head light in the same way, but it still worked. What he was doing tapping into the turn signals, we'll never know. Oh, well.. no big deal. Onward!
  5. Naturally, I pulled it off thinking the same thing, but it seems perfectly normal.
  6. Kiwi Roy is sending me one for free. (!!!) I'll have to buy him a beer if we get together some time. Ran down to Indianapolis to Gasoline alley, and Earl's made an exact copy of the brake line for 20 bux.
  7. Cross posted from WG.. Well, I finally met up with my good friend from Maine and delivered the V50 III to him at Vintage days at Barber's. Another member here had posted about a possible good deal on a Rosso Corsa a few weeks back, and I found out it was just off I65. That would be right on my way back from Barbers, and I would have an empty trailer.. My son Brad (greenie V11S) went with me, and we had a *great* time at Barber. I'd highly recommend it. I've been looking for a Nero or a Rosso for some time, so that seemed like a match that couldn't be passed up. I knew from what he said that it was a little rough, but was sound mechanically. Took a quick look and decided she needed to go home with me, flat tire and all. She started right up, though, and sounded really good with the titanium cans. Quite a few other farkles, too. She'd had a low speed encounter with the ground, and some damage on the left side that Brad and I mostly finished up today. Strangely enough, this was the plug on the *right* side.. and it still ran fine. Unfortunately, the previous owner had decided to add a back off brake light thingy and heated grips. This was how stuff was done. None of it worked, of course. We spent the day going through this and got the brake lights, license lamp, tail lights, and turn signals working. The rear brake line had somehow come loose, laid on the crossover, and eventually melted/chafed through it. Apparently that had heated up the fluid in the system enough to hold the rear pads against the rotor, and they are toast. The rotor is seriously blue, to boot. Didn't see that. Oh well... The shifter has been welded, but not in a way I can live with, so I need one of those, too. I'd hate to make one if I can buy one. We also cleaned up some cosmetic issues today, and she's coming around. So. I need a rear brake line and shifter to start with.. any leads on that? Took a quick look on MG and didn't see anything. Oh.. She's going to be a sweetheart. Her name is Rosie.
  8. Here's Rocker's last spine frame LeMans facing off with my last Tonti frame LeMans..
  9. I have *finally* cleaned all the Dielectric grease out of all the places on the Strada that the previous owner thought it was a good idea to put it. Dielectric means "won't conduct electricity." If I never see any of it again, that'll be just right. It has put me on the side of the road with this bike several times.. Just sayin.
  10. It's probably still puking it out the breather if it's that full of oil, but on top of the engine, the banjo to the oil lines to the heads can be loose, or the phase sensor can leak. That's about it, IFAIK.
  11. Isn't it too cold for bugs in Montana?
  12. FWIW, I have Roper's x scura. We don't know what has been done to it, but it is the fastest Guzzi I've ever ridden. I'll guarantee it will smoke my Centauro. It doesn't have any low rpm fueling issues. Feels like a Harley right off idle..
  13. Roy, FWIW, on my Scura and Darth Quota before that, the generator light just seems to come on or not because of some vagaries in phases of the moon. Just sayin. As near as I can tell, when the light comes on, it means the bulb isn't burnt out.. both bikes were exactly the same..unpredictable.
  14. Cam, before you spend a lot of money.. Did you buy that leak down tester yet? If so, here's what you can do. Bring it up to exactly TDC to fire the suspect cylinder. Turn on the air to the leak down tester, and set it at 80psi. What's it read? Below 70 on the second gauge? Leaking out of a valve? Take a copper or brass hammer (or a claw hammer and piece of wood or plastic and hit the rocker arm enough to open the valve. Naturally, the spring will close it. Do this several times. Watch the second gauge and see what the pressure is. Many times, it is nothing more than carbon (or corrosion) lightly holding a valve off the seat, and causing a leak. This is called "staking the valves" in aircraft maintenance, and is commonly done. I've seen many cylinders come back to normal (mid 70s) with this technique.. Edit: forgot to tell you why this works.. keeping air pressure in the cylinder blows the carbon and/or corrosion out that is dislodged by the valve hitting the seat.

    which one

The V11s seems to me to be a little more "elemental" if you will. They never let you forget that you are operating a machine, know what I mean? Besides that, they're the last of the *real* Guzzis. My aging neck has had problems with sporty bikes for years, but the Scura with adjustable clipons is quite comfortable for me. Welcome to the forum, btw.
  16. 2Guzzidave had mistrals and stock crossover on his greenie for a year or so before putting on a stucci crossover. Woo eee, did that crossover make a difference..
  17. Gotta agree. At least they wouldn't breed. I *hate* rip off artists..
  18. Naaa, Dis side and Snot dis side..
  19. The left is as if you are sitting on the bike. It's standard practice. Watch for the intake valve to open, and then close on the left cylinder as you are turning it with a wrench on the alternator nut. It will then be coming up on the compression stroke. You check the valves at Top Dead Center of the compression stroke. If you take out the rubber plug on the right side, you can see the flywheel. When it is on TDC of the left cylinder, you will see an S (Snot dis side) itsa eye talian. Do the valve adjust, then keep turning the crankshaft 270 degrees, and you will see a D (Dis side) on the flywheel. Adjust that cylinder. Easy Peasey. Search is your friend, btw.. there are many threads here, and on other sites it this isn't plain enough.

    Staintune

I'd like to find a V11S right side Staintune muffler to replace the one that Roper used for a frame slider..
  21. Probably what you'll find is corrosion on either the relay/base (forward one) and or the fuse connectors, and or the wire that hooks to the small terminal on the starter solenoid. All these add up to a high resistance connection, and will pop the fuse. Oh, yeah.. the starter button, too. Getcha some good safe for plastic electrical cleaner.. I like Caig DeOxit.. and have at it. If that doesn't cure it, you probably have a dirty solenoid.
  22. I'm curious: Why is there an electric petcock anyway if the engine won't run w/o the fuel pump working? Glad to hear how easy the fix was for you, but I'm left wondering if the permanent fix isn't to just permanently jamb the darn thing open & stop having to fiddle with it ever after? There is an electric petcock because Guzzi has a barrel full of them to use up, as far as I know. It came out on the Convert, and is a good idea for carbed bikes. No use whatsoever on a fuel injection bike. You gotta love em..
  23. That will be the connections under the tank on the left side, I think it was the wires from the clutch/side stand are a bit loose. Just a wee crimp with pliers and thats another problem out of the way!!!. My bike does exactly the same from time to time, full right lock and it starts every time. One of these days I will have to fix it. I figured it was a broken wire but I will check the connectors first as you suggest. You Know what they say about a mechanics car, it applies also to an electricians bike, I'd rather be riding than wrenching LOL I like to apply vaseline to all the connectors also, prevents any corrosion issue Cheers Roy Like Grossohc said, it will be on the left side by the steering head. Bullet connectors. Take em apart, squirt them with Wayne's De Oxit gold, make sure they fit reasonably well and forget about it. Maybe a little Kiwi Roy vaseline on the outside..
  24. Large Short sleeve T in Red. Hey,I have a urinal too.
  25. I added ~ 5.25 gallons when I filled it up and I had probably .25 of a gallon from my can before I filled at the station. Bob Purty..
