  1. That is your wake up call. I have a medical condition called "deaf as a post." Hearing loss *is* cumulative. The early onset of tinnitus is a red flag saying what you are doing is too loud for too long. It caused *some* hearing damage. If you keep it up, the tinnitus never goes away. Trust me on this.. your hearing will continue to degrade over time, too. Wear hearing protection on a bike. Always. It's not the mechanical or exhaust, it's the roar of wind that does it. Years of industrial noise, motorcycles, airplanes, loud music, shooting, have done it for me. The good news is my latest pair of hearing aides are awesome. They bluetooth to my phone, TV, etc. I can actually hear again, and don't have to nod and smile a lot.. As good a "normal" hearing? No. Make that Hell no. Ok, off the soapbox.
  2. I would think the 10% rule would apply..
  3. Hell, I had a 441 BSA dug into the axle in Michigan. I got off, left it running in gear. Every time it fired, the rear wheel made about a half turn.. The mantra, "When in doubt, gas it" counts double in the sand hills of Michigan..
  4. Back in the day, The Kid, being an aircraft mechanic, thought it would be nice to know the oil temp on his (now Low's) Greenie. So, he called up Gordon at MG Cycle. Gordon said, "Sure, I'll sell you one, but what good will it do for you? You *know* you won't like what you see sometimes, and then what are you going to do about it? The Kid said, "Ok, never mind.." Gotta love Gordon and Cheesehead..
  5. There is a tendency for the transmission to crack at the mounting tabs on the early red frames.
  6. ^^^^^^ Red Foxx on a "behind the counter" record back in the day.. On the same one, he had a pharmaceutical called "Rise." For men over 45. Made by Upjohn Laboratories. You have to swallow it fast, or it'll make your neck hard. (rimshot)
  7. I personally think it is involved with fueling.. or maybe needing to be a little rich in that area to cover up poor ignition.
  8. Yes. That was the *last* issue I had after I finally had it running perfectly, except it would hiccup very occasionally at 3400 rpm (from memory) The final solution was the brass temp sensor holder. When I was playing with the CO setting on the Mighty Scura, I could get the hiccup when it was too lean, FWIW.
  9. Sorry, I've forgotten your name. From Leafman:
  10. That was one of the things I tried when sorting the Centauro back in the day. It didn't help.
  11. Just what does that include, Paul?
  12. I *think* they lightened the Centauro flywheel a bit. I did a lightened flywheel assembly for The Kid many years ago, but apparently the assembly is the only one I took a picture of.
  13. Of course, the Mighty Scura isn't stock.. but when I first checked it, it was at +40. (!) Set it at 0 and rode it for a bit. There was a some lean stumble. Set it at +20. Had a hiccup at low rpm. Back to +40. Plugs look good, mileage is around 40 mpg. Whether or not the Power Commander affects this.. IDK, but it runs beautifully.
  14. What footgoose sez. A buffing wheel, rouge, a little elbow grease, and they'll look like a pewter dollar in no time. Wipe them down one last time after installation, and they'll eventually turn golden. Fingerprints, oil, etc. will have to be looked after, or they'll get splotchy. (technical term)
  15. "It'sa not a noise. It'sa sound.." Attributed to a Guzzi engineer, I think..
  16. I would think so. I wouldn't think so. It's a corrosion inhibitor, not something that removes corrosion as far as I know.
  17. Aircraft spruce are shipping rip off artists. They'll ship for free with a $350 order, though. They wanted $140 to ship a piece of 1/32 X 48 X 48 plywood. I called them and said they could roll it and put it in a cardboard box. Only $46 for that 3 lb. box. What are you gonna do? They pretty much have a monopoly. Fortunately, I can get 4130 tubing in Indy. and ACS can kiss my.. oh never mind..
  18. The first time I saw the valve train of a Guzzi, I thought.. "Aircraft engine." The bottom end is .. uh.. sturdy. I'd fly one any time.
  19. I think the Guzzi 2 valve big block sounds like a small block Chevy. The Centauro at full cry sounds like a Can Am Chevy big block. The Aero engine sounds.. uhh.. different than them, but kool.
  20. Standard aircraft stuff for years..
  21. I'll bet that up close and personal that green paint scheme will rock. I'd look good on it, but I have my wind up bike.
  22. so also did Moto Guzzi's own '55-'57 GP racer. They had the "L" twin in '33.. a little before Ducati.
  23. You may very well have to buy a TPS some day.. but they are under $100. The last one I bought was $42, but that's been a while.
