  1. Ron.. the Mighty Scura uses this one http://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=382&products_id=2474 Their website says it is out of stock. Is it still working? It's nothing more than a thermistor pressed into the end of a plastic tube, a couple of wires, and a nut to screw it to the bung. You could probably glue the thermistor with some fuel proof glue it that is the problem. To check it, just unplug it and see if there is *some* resistance between the two wires. Normally, a bad one doesn't have any.
  2. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0081SAT1I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They cost less now than when I bought them. *I don't know* if they are as good as they look on the outside or not. Time will tell.
  3. It is repairable, so don't throw it away. Save it for when you absolutely can't find a used one to replace it with. It will take some expertise, and won't be cheap. As L P said, the cracks will have to be Ved out , bead blasted, pre heated, welded, and remachined.
  4. There are two things that go wrong. Bad starter or bad solenoid. When I had the Mighty Scura in SoCal, the solenoid started sticking and blowing fuses. Mark at MG Classics had a big box of them from when he warranted them as a dealer. He told me to rummage through them and find one with a dropped magnet, take the solenoid off, and replace it on mine. Did that, and it was fine for several years until last year in BF Wisconsin. Brought it home, took it apart, cleaned, etc. Worked fine on the bench. Once it got hot, like stopping for a gas stop, though.. I'm entirely too old to bump start this big girl. Bought one off Amazon for 60 some bucks. It *appears* to be very well made, and works fine. Fine enough that when the Bosch on the Aero Lario started acting up, I threw it onto the "rebuildable Guzzi junk" pile with tag on it and bought another Amazon special. They are cheaper than buying parts to rebuild the stock starters..
  5. Our ISP is (almost) tits up right now, so I can't show pix. Saw Footgoose briefly, an airhead beemer couple from southern Indiana, and John & Karla Barnes with step son Todd. (Kentucky rally movers and shakers.) Stayed in the downtown Art deco Hilton, and rode the trolley right to the brewery. The beer was good..
  6. I believe you've found it. I was at the Ohio rally a few years back. Heavy dew. (!) All packed up, ready to go, push the button, and.... nothing. Unpacked all my stuff, took out my earplugs, realized the fuel pump wasn't running, took the seat off, wiggled the relays, checked the fuses, varooom.
  7. My guess, and it is only a guess, is the crankshaft sensor. Maybe gapped a little too wide? In that scenario, it will run at idle, but won't take throttle.
  8. For whatever reason, our beloved V11s seem to be abnormally susceptible to corrosion on the relay bases/relays. I'm clueless (my normal condition) as to why.
  9. Like I said.. many esoteric electrical problems are nothing more than a dead battery. Get yourself a load tester. They're cheap. (Guzzi content)
  10. Almost everything is. Here's the deal. The Chinese are perfectly capable of making a $5 bolt. However, if the retailer wants a $1 bolt that they can sell at $3, they can make that, too. If you want, they can make a 29cent bolt that you can sell for $2 to unsuspecting customers. They don't care, they just make what the retailer wants at the price they are willing to pay. I've said for years that if we had enough rope we'd hang ourselves. Now, we've sent all the rope making machinery..and the expertise to run it.. to China. As my favorite actor Babe the Pig said, "That's the way life is."
  11. I've had a couple.. a Mk3, and a Monza. Sweet runners.
  12. You should have been good. It may have just been a "bad" bolt, but probably is a cheezy built to a price knock off with 8.8 stamped on the head. It's a crap shoot any more with hardware. There was even knock off AN hardware floating around a few years ago, but I think that has been sorted out by now.
  13. I always load test the battery with my cheapy Harbor Freight load tester before starting troubleshooting that kind of problem. I'm *not* saying that is your issue, but it is the root of many electrical issues. I've seen battery charges lie through their teeth, and say, "Oh yeah.. that battery is fine.." they should look for work in the political arena. My best guess is the starter has dropped a magnet..
  14. So, what *was* the torque spec? Size of bolt? I *hate* stuff like this.. maybe counterfeit?
  15. I've ridden it some, and it's fine as long as you aren't in town. Then.. it becomes a torture rack. *Very* heavy clutch pull and not a lot of steering lock. My take? It's a very elemental machine. If operating something like that floats your boat, (yep ) there's nothing better. Definitely not a rookie rider's bike at all. The Kid says, "I love love love it out on the road. It's the best credit card touring bike ever made." "I hate hate hate it in town, parking, and moving it around in the garage.."
  16. When the Bolt first came out, we were on the fence, looked at all the specs, and went with a high zoot Prius. Being a retired GM employee, I was just a little afraid of them not getting the tech right. Believe me, I've seen some engineering disasters. I'm glad to see this one working for you..
  17. You're right, it's not a sport. Welcome to the best place in the world for V11sports, btw..
  18. I could have bought one cheap in '78, but there was no place for my sweetie to sit. Bought a Darmah instead..
  19. The Kid saved an early 1100 Spot a few years ago. For it's "shake down" run we rode to the Carolinas and camped/moteled for a week. It was the first time he really rode it in anger and it sucked the valve cover gasket inward. Cost him a t shirt to do a field repair at camp. When I asked Pete about it, he said that was common with the "factory" gaskets. You can see where it is sucked in between the bottom two screws. 2017-06-04_01-30-18 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr
  20. Dorcia thought she's take me to this for Valentine's day. Maybe hit another brewery, go out to eat, stay overnight. She's such a good girl.. Any recommendations, Tim?
  21. Yeah, some sort of vent tube, not standard. Needs Roper plate. $3500.
  22. Good choice. They would probably screw up the shimming and trash your new stuff to boot.
  23. Attaboy. The material looks like glass filled polypropylene that we used to mold high strength parts out of at GM. When making prototypes, I used much the same process. I had a big hunker soldering iron that would make (sort of) a bead that I filled with the same material.
  24. You'll look good on it..
  25. Oh yeah. 5-6K in the canyons.. Careful, now..be *very* smooth with the throttle as you add it through the turn. Whew! These things sound amazing.. Chuck, Deacon Church of Guzzi
