Best Guzzi Service Shop in the Los Angeles/Orange County Area?
Chuck replied to Kane's topic in Travel & dealers
Right. When Commie Nick died, he asked me if I would bring my tools and fix a Daytona engine for him when I came out. Nick had talked him into pulling the engine, sending it out to be rebuilt, and all they would have to do is put it back in. He did that, and it was out of time. He said that was the last time he was working on a "modern" bike. -
Ok, here's the top mount on the Scura. Side view.. Notice the rubber close out around the headlight, too.

Well, it *is* Guzzi we're talking about here.. My kid originally set it up. The bars and screen are aftermarket. The bags and rack are available from the importer. https://www.motomachines.com/hepco-becker?gclid=Cj0KCQjwrfvsBRD7ARIsAKuDvMN3evgDp8SJAqZqmC2Mn4P-A-mGE60SyJ9FLG6z2IUGH8Ihyjk3v4IaAjx2EALw_wcB

I have done LA to SF on the Mighty Scura, including twisties now and then. A long day, but satisfying. After that, I thought a V11 LeMans would be perfect for the plains and interstates of Indiana, so looked for one for quite a while. Finally found Rosie, a Rosso Corsa, and was disappointed that I preferred the fly screen of the Scura. The only place the LeMans fairing was "better" was in the rain. There was turbulence around my helmet, and cross winds were more bothersome. Of course, all this is subjective, and rider size and position, aerodynamics, etc. say YMMV. Per your first question. Yes, the V11S with flyscreen is an all day tourer. For me.

Well, it's not a Scura fairing, for sure, but not a Coppa either. If the headlight diameter is correct, it can possibly be used depending on just where the mount holes are.
-
Yeah, apparently it' photoblockits latest scheme. They can kiss my ass. Right down the middle..

I replaced a set of gears for a guy's Centauro. It wasn't *quite* that bad.. but I could feel the particulates in the oil as soon as I opened the timing chest. If I would have kept mine, I was planning on a chain at the next belt service.

I have repurposed the tooling to make a couple of Jackal throttle return springs, so I'd have to make everything new. Of course, I *can* but I'm lazy in my old age.. I'll do it if Scud doesn't want to mess with another run, though.

Always glad to hear from a happy customer..

You know what? So am I. I'm an airplane mechanic, and have a place for every thing and everything in it's place. Just the same, believe it or not, Mark knows what he has and *where it is.* Back in happier times when he was still more affluent, he had an annual Christmas party for Guzzisti. Food, beer, etc. Lots of it. I cleaned and organized for *days* to make the place look ship shape for the party one year. He told me after that it took him months to find everything again. Ask him anything. If he has it, he'll rummage around in a pile and bring it out. In the above picture, he's on the phone, no doubt telling someone how to fix their Guzzi for free. Salt of the earth, and totally honest. Really, a treasure to the antique Guzzi community. -
Oh boy! A tire thread. Getcha some Conti RA3s. You'll be glad you did.

Ok, that's 5. Anyone else want one?

I *could* make some if Scud doesn't want to do another run, and there is enough interest.

Absolutely. Sean used to work for him, and did the "modern" stuff. Josh works for him, now, and is a good mechanic but doesn't do computer either. I've talked to him about how easy it is, there are fewer and fewer bikes to work on when you don't work on computer bikes, but he's not interested. He's an old timey motorcycle mechanic with an old timey motorcycle shop.. and a *really* good guy. 2016-07-09_01-37-14 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr -

Sean Fader is the best mechanic in SoCal. He had his own shop, RTL Moto.. but I *think* he's been hired by O.C. If so, there's your guy. Tell him I sent you. -
You *might* find a rattle can the right color.. dunno, but you can do a fine job with them if you do your part. I had to color match the AeroLario, (tail piece and one frame rail) and had $150 in chemicals. (!)

I prefer the fly screen over the LeMans fairing. Mostly.
-
Congrats.. and tell her to clean up the mess you made making dinner..

If a manufacturing process isn't carefully controlled (we *are* talking Guzzi, here) nobody knows until things start failing in the field. Remember, this is a very small company with very little money.. and no reliability lab. This is much of the allure to me. They were making a *very* good motorcycle on a shoestring, and doing a good job.. mostly.. at it.
-
I have some spare suspenders from being the oldest old fart on a Guzzi at the Ohio rally if you need some.
-
I did essentially this except used an oxy acetylene torch, and it took 5 minutes. It works fine on the Mighty Scura and the Rosso Corsa when I had it.. but.. wouldn't work on the Kid's greenie.
-
Back in the day, I had them joined on the Centauro.. many did. I tried just capping them off and didn't really see any change.
-
^^^ Yep, it'll probably run poorly. The Kid's (now LowRyter's) greenie was hard to ride when he first got it. The usual things made it into a strong runner.

Here's the Mighty Scura at 38,000 miles..
