  1. Powder coating is easy. It takes no skill whatsoever to spray powder. That's pretty obvious in the video. And.. it's true. One of the things I make is industrial powder coating equipment. Charged particle leaves the gun looking for a ground. the part to be painted is grounded. Charged particle is in flight, and the highest ground is where there hasn't been a previous particle finding it. So. It finds that bare area. The next particle heads out of the gun looking for a ground, etc.
  2. Ok, to perpetuate the yearly "Winter Oil Thread" .. diesel oil has some very serious detergent additives that *may* loosen up some mung that has been content to lay in galleries if you are putting it in a high time engine. I gave an enema to a high time aircraft engine by changing oil brands. Killed it in about 50 hours. Of course, it wasn't an oil filter engine, but still..
  3. I think he's talking about a Tuono. One of them with a magazine tester spanked me and the Mighty Scura on the Snake. Of course, we could have traded bikes and he still would have spanked me, but that T was fast.
  4. Very good explanation. Actually, Valvoline dino oil is SG, and available generally for about 4 bux a bottle. Castrol4T is SG also. I run either in the Monza and MZ. In the Mighty Scura and Aero engine, I run MOtul 10-60. Around 11-12 a liter, and SG rated, also. I, personally can't see not running an SG oil in our flat tappet engines.

  6. You will need to report back on the state of the label. I'll bet it is fine, especially if it hasn't been getting hot.
  7. I have a plastic one.. so far so good. The Kid put a metal one on his Spot. A plastic one wasn't able to defeat those carb springs.
  8. Yep, that's the car oil all right. Ready for an oil thread? No less than Dr. John told Dave Richardson, who told Greg Field who told me to "Use SG rated oil in your Guzzi."
  9. Ok you asked. Is that the SL rated Mobil 1 automotive oil? The Bosch 3330 didn't use to have a sticker. I removed it. I'll go with Wix the next time (same manufacturer no sticker.) Yes, I'm picking the fly poop out of the pepper, but still.. I've never removed the gasket from a filter, just lubed the mating surface. Right or wrong? I dunno.
  10. Good one, Docc..
  11. 3 1/2 quarts without a Roper plate. I have a picture on my phone of what *not* having a Roper plate can look like.. (!)
  12. Looks good.

  14. Hmmmp. No hammer in sight.
  15. You got me thinking about this, now, Docc. Thanks a lot, pal. I *have* seen a respected Guzzi mechanic reface rockers by hand. That would take some skill.. doing a little research I found a home made fixture to do them on a belt sander. Before getting too carried away, though, I wouldn't be surprised that a good automotive machine shop will have an attachment for their valve grinding machine to do rocker tips. Shouldn't cost much.
  16. Thanks, Pete..
  17. ^^^^^ Probably not, if you are just talking a few thousandths.
  18. I know enough to know what I don't know about DLC, Docc. Yes it is hard. I *think* it is deposited by plasma spray.
  19. Docc, *I don't know* but I would think a tach pulse is a tach pulse. Maybe not.. for instance, though, I took the guts out of a Yamaha tach, put it in the MZ, wired in a connector, and Bob's your mother's brother. I just have a hard time thinking there are dedicated Veglia models for different Guzzi models.
  20. One of my other Guzzi's is a Lario. That and the Daytona are the two I will never sell. They aren't perfect examples of engineering prowess, but they are cool. And something might be wrong with my Lario as it has not broken its valve train yet. Although I have probably jinxed it now.... My Lario wiped a cam lobe, but I had heard of this Aero engine on Craig's list, and..
  21. Colin has a way with words, doesn't he?
  22. Don't forget the Lario, which put a big dent in Guzzi's reputation in the states. And.. the hydro motors, single plate clutch and cracked triples of the EVs. I also call a spade a spade. Doesn't mean I don't *love* the brand.
  23. Yeah, I have a dollar that sez the spare I picked up off a Quota will work on the Mighty Scura if necessary. Uhh, it's just power, signal and ground.
  24. The natural history museum in Chicago is wonderful, too.. but.. if you are a motorcycle guy, Barber's is beyond amazing.
  25. The last time we were there, they were building another building (!) across the track. I'm assuming the foot bridge goes to it.
