Like Docc said, as long as it was just that breather hose (very common) all that will clear up with a new one. Probably no damage to the clutch plates. Even a rear main seal leak doesn't normally affect them.

Lots. When I came in to the Wisconsin rally, I saw my friend Twowings from Oklahoma with the tank off his Norge. Grabbed a free beer (after all, it's the Wisconsin rally) and went over to investigate. He'd lost 2 quarts in his 700 mile trip. (!) Found the breather hose loose at the air box.

If you get the hiccup at low rpm/barely on throttle, check for a vacuum leak.
-
IIRC, Pete said you could go ahead and put in the full 4 quarts after plate installation. 3 1/2 has been working for me since the 90s, don't see any reason to change..besides, you get a free quart every other change.

Oh, yes they can. I used the correct coils. The first one was an oem coil. The next two were from MGcycle.- 65 replies

Here's mine..hanging out with her big sisters. Not nice silvery blue, though. I've never seen one of those.. 2016-08-18_02-45-05 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr

Sure, the pressure lines to the heads will leak a lot of oil if either they or the fitting fails. That's fairly common. The phase sensor and oil pressure sender can leak, but not normally a lot.. The breather line is a good bet.. it will make a mess.

Ahh, maybe that was what was going on with my old SP. Less the ECU of course..- 65 replies

Sounds like sticking steering damper/steering head bearings. I *assume* you know how to check the steering head bearings? You can take the damper off, of course, to see if that is causing it. The thing is..strange handling is *not* what a V11S is about, so something is causing it.

I'd at least look at a new Thruxton. Fortunately, I don't have to. That said, I could live with the AeroLario. When push comes to shove, it generally gets the nod for everyday riding. When I get old.. the Monza is waiting. Light, agile.

I *like* the original Speed Triple.. but, sorry. Not in the same league IMHO.

^^^^^ Shorts are easy to find that way. As Docc sez, though.. it may be nothing more than a bulb.

The picture is kind of distorted. It looks better in real life.. if you like that sort of thing.

You have entirely too much time on your hands.

01' Guzzi V11 Ignition Coils Melting (Earthing Issues?)

Yes.. I just thought it *might* be germane to the discussion. For what ever reason, we have a points ignition and computer ignition doing the same thing. Running a wire directly from that set of points to the coil cured it. I *assumed* there was something going on in the harness, but have no clue what it was.I remember Chuck Ducati coils used to melt into a sticky puddle if the ignition switch was left on without the engine running due to the coils being continuously powered. Could you have had an ignition switch contact not releasing or relay not relaxing causing the same thing? Ciao Like I said, I'm clueless. It was only the right coil, though. It only happened when it was running, to boot. That was a memorable trip to California..- 65 replies

It's for adjusting "when" the lever starts to actuate the master cylinder.. not "where" if that makes sense.

Ok, I'd first look at the rocker arms sliding back and forth on the shafts. I would be surprised if that would make a noise you could hear. Naturally, I'd check valve clearances. The *first* thing I do when trouble shooting is a leak down test. Of course, that just gives you a general impression of the condition of the engine. It won't find a noise unless there is a pretty obvious failure. Valve clearance ok? Rocker arms not rattling back and forth? Time to go deeper..
-
A few pages back, you said the noise was in the top end. You can pull the heads, have a look, etc. and put them back together in an afternoon.

They were overheating. I came out of the motel in the morning on coil number two and there was coil oil underneath the bike.- 65 replies

When I got the kit for the Centauro many years ago.. I first thought they'd sent me the wrong stuff. After scratching my er.. ear for a while, I finally got it all mounted. Took me 4 hours, too. Yep, one page of instructions in German.

It'll be interesting to find out what you get compared to what I got..
