  1. I've been following this thread.. just trying to learn something about an old 1000 SP I had that suddenly started eating RH coils on a trip out to California. It took 2 of them to get me there, and I arrived on one cylinder. Much head scratching and parts changing went on. I eventually cured it by running a wire directly from the points to that coil, but still don't understand what was going on.
  2. Oh, I'm sure we could have traded bikes and he would have spanked me anyway. Just the same, he was impressed with the Tuono.
  3. I had an early V700 until the infamous crash & burn. DON'T use that fuel crossover. Although Charlie Mullendorf sez they will stop fine, *I* couldn't get that front brake to work. Dorcia loved that bike. Soft ride. Handled..er.. ok. Gave you the feeling it would soldier on to the end of the earth, and probably would. Think 55 Buick..
  4. I and the Mighty Scura were soundly spanked on the Snake by a guy on a Tuono. I wasn't used to seeing someone come up behind me, so pulled over and waved him on. He stopped at the Rock Store, so I did too, and shot the sh!t for an hour or so. He was a moto journalist on a test ride, and said that bike was crazy fast. The Mighty Scura is no slouch at low speed acceleration, but that sucker would just plain disappear. Wouldn't want one, though. If some electronic gizmo went haywire, I couldn't fix it, and no doubt that pimply faced kid at the dealer that cross threads your spark plugs couldn't either.
  5. The only cleaning I've read about is to drill a hole in the bottom and squirt some DeOxit in it. I've done that, but it didn't last long. They're cheap...
  6. Hey! Pat Cowden comes.. and he's from Tennessee.. wimp. edit: Fred Sahms comes occasionally, and he's from Knox Vegas.
  7. Details on WG here: http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=92214.0 for those of you that don't post on WG. Docc.. I'm talking about you. It's not like it's all that far, and a good time. I'll have the Mighty Scura, and the Kid will be on his early Spot. Need more spines. Footgoose? Nobleswood? Who'd I forget that's sort of local? It's a good time..
  8. That is what I found..
  9. Didn't work for me on the Strada. Sounded the same, no matter where I put it. I should have realized it was an external source.. but was too stupid to make that connection.
  10. ^^^^ let me digress. I had a barn find Strada at one time that drove me crazy looking for a noise at about 2200 rpm. I even replaced the plastic caged transmission bearings on Pete's advice.. he said while you are there, might as well do it. I tore it down twice. (!) Eventually balanced the whole rotating assembly. Still there. Eventually found out it was a crash bar that had been tweeked in a garage fall down, and was acting like a tuning fork. (!!) Only took a year to find that one. Just the other day, I felt a vibration in the AeroLario foot pegs. Thought, "Uh oh.. probably a u joint. I'm working it harder than it was designed." Ordered a new cross at 20 some bucks. A new driveshaft assembly is over $300. Eeeks! Put it on the lift to start getting ready to remove the driveshaft. Pulled off the chin fairing, and it showed signs of rubbing on the bottom of the oil pan. The light bulb came on.. The chin fairing was transmitting vibration to the fairing mount.. to the frame right in front of the foot pegs.. The point of all this? Stewgnu may just be right.
  11. I'm betting the dead could hear it..
  12. I just go out to visit the MZ grandkids about 3 times a year.. 2016-07-06_12-25-43 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr
  13. We'll be in California..
  14. I don't think either of those injuries will buff out. Sorry about both. Welcome to the bionic world..
  15. Gotta agree. It's no big deal to pull the heads on a Guzzi.
  16. Where's that popcorn emoticon?
  17. It had a chunk of valve guide go through the engine.. had a broken spring, too, but I didn't see any part of that missing.
  18. It'll come back.
  19. Yeah, I was with you in spirit, but camping at the Midwest Antique Airplane Club fly in. There's only so many things a guy can do on the same weekend. 2017-09-11_01-51-31 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr
  20. A rattle when you let off throttle is generally rod bearings. A main bearing normally is a low pitched thump, especially at startup before oil pressure builds. How fast oil pressure bleeds off after shutdown is a good indication of bearing condition, but it (naturally) requires an oil pressure gauge. I'm not hearing any of those sounds in the video. Possibly you are hearing the rocker arms going from side to side? There is a mod to put a thrust bearing on the rocker arm shaft to stop that. I'm still having a problem being concerned about what I'm hearing. Maybe I need better hearing aids? FWIW, I chased a noise in a Strada for months. Tore it down twice, balanced the entire rotating assembly. Eventually found it was a crash bar doing it.
  21. Sounds normal to me. Of course, I always wear ear plugs and don't generally hear the cacophony of sounds a Guzzi makes.. but.. I didn't hear anything in the video.
  22. Here, you can see it. About 4 inches in front of the relay block, on the outside of the tube. I'd say it's a factory installation. 2017-09-11_02-54-01 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr

  24. As far as I remember, paint, Ti mufflers and ecu.
