Rear drive needle bearing and swing arm restoration
stefano replied to Bjorn's topic in Technical Topics
docc, as often as you change rear tires, i bet yours looks like new...ha,ha... happy new year!! -
i believe the 3rd bike is a lilac\marusho 250, if i remember correctly, lilac made the smaller ones & marusho the larger bikes. others will know more. in my youth i rode a lilac 250 & thought it was so much slower than my '61 honda cb92 125. youth......

i replaced the spark 500 (also says moto guzzi on it) battery last year on my '02, i'm pretty sure it was the original. and it was still working fine. i think others have had the spark 500 last this long, not sure why? replaced with a PC545 and i also have never had on last close to that long before. usually get about 4 yrs.

ANSWERED 2003 V11 Sport Naked - serial number one?
stefano replied to chamberlin's topic in 24/7 V11
Any idea what you'd sell it for Steve? Might not make too much sense to use with OEM mufflers, but it is also interesting that FBF didn't utilize the hanger but the Mistral does (per AndyH). i have $130 in it, so that plus shipping if that doesn't sound like too much. PM me if you're interested, i'll send you some pics when the dust settles today. i have mistrals & a power commander on my '02 & it runs so good as is (knock wood) that i never installed it. and andy, you're not alone, salt, chemicals wet grit all over my roads (and bike) after yesterdays ride. cheers, steve -
ANSWERED 2003 V11 Sport Naked - serial number one?
stefano replied to chamberlin's topic in 24/7 V11
i know the fast by ferracci crossover doesn't utilize the mount. i purchased one way back when, never installed it. still in the box FBF sent it in, somewhere in the shop, complete with the clamps. probably be for sale if i ever see it again. cheers, steve. -
daren, prob be good PM to replace the crankcase breather-to-frame hose while the tank's off if you haven't yet. they tend to go to hell. i've been putting off removing the tank, i've been trying to get my manual fuel shut off unstuck for years, guess i'll just have to run the bike out of fuel & dive in. and i've had a new shut off, breather hose, fuel filter, air filter blah, blah...in a box for about a year. and the bullet connectors, part of my start up drill is to turn the bars to the right. if nothing else it's good theft protection. good to see another local V11. i'm about 50mi north in castle rock. cheers, steve

oh man, ralph steadman. one of hunter s. thompson's running mates. a killer illustration for "song of the sausage creature" among many others. just to stay on topic, i'm having a sierra nevada (chico california) torpedo extra IPA as we speak (so to speak) -
looks like the GT angel has wear bars (in your photo)? the ST has none so i keep a close eye on them towards the end of their run. the cord seems to appear suddenly. i've got the angel ST on both of my bikes, found i had to up the pressure to 40psi front& 42psi rear for wear & handling on the V11, YMMV as always.

glad i read this thread. while i've had the rear wheel off couple times, (tires, grease driveline splines, etc etc.) i've never serviced the cush drive. i will for sure now, while i'm replacing wheel bearings. (thx for posting bearing #s tom m) saw a V11 leMans this summer at the Deep Forest rally with L rear wheel bearing coming apart (bearings dropping in the roadway) up at windy ridge/ Mt St. helens. fellow managed to ride it back into town where he left it at a someones house.

been a few years, but i was nailed again yesterday. warm day, visor up a notch or two. by the time i got stopped the little blighter had stung me 2 or 3 times, it was still flying when it exited the helmet, noticed it was a yellow jacket. fortunately just lots of swelling & itching.......

signifiant slop/lash in drive train, fear of failure
stefano replied to Dazz's topic in Technical Topics
i just measured my '02. it's also about 2 1/2 " or 63 mm or so. all 6 gears the same. also the clunk at end of slack. when i bought her years back, this slack produced a lot of driveline snatch in the lower gears. i read (somewhere on this forum i believe) that these bikes reward smoothness. and i found this to be very true cheers, steve -
i've heard good things about knight designs lower pegs . i'm using buells now, but you'll probably have to lower your shift & brake levers to compensate for the lower pegs. and possibly extend the brake & shift ends 1/2" so you won't be pigeon toed when shifting & braking, as they're moved out about half inch.. i've done this on my V11, & it's pretty easy & works fine for me, don't know what it entails on a griso. it is for a griso, no?

WAY cool ;-) -
no GL API designation. just motorcycle 80W gear oil with shockproof
-
docc. it's kinda light green pastel looking. just says redline motorcycle 80w gear oil with shockproof. haven't seen the pink & blue. with all these colors, kinda like the gay pride gear lube (not that there's anything wrong with that) good stuff.
-
still a mystery got oil hot, drained, 350 ml. still green, although darker, doesn't appear to be water in oil. added 350 ml, just a tad under the full plug. as of now no weeping, a few drops of oil make a huge mess at speed, eh? sorry about the panic... my baby & all...... oh yeah old & new redline 80w gear oil with shockproof steve
-
yeah...it's been awhile, already have the redline i'll change it tomorrow. i'll let you know.
-
ya know..that's sure what it sounds like, but the oil is not milky nor running out when it's hot, it's a mystery?? but i was caught in a HUGE downpour 2 wks ago...
-
docc, thx for the hints. i just got home from a 20 mi ride. thought i'd ride easy 'til the oil warmed up this time, checked diff every few miles. no oil. last 5 miles were at 80 or so, no oil leaking from breather. could it be that cool thick diff oil will fling up & run out the breather??? whereas hot thinner will not fling around as much? odd, as in 5 yrs, many, many miles i've never had this happen. anyway, no harm, no foul. after the Deep Forest rally next weekend i'll be changing diff & trans oil with redline shockproof after i change the shift pawl spring (i bought 2) i suspect i'm on borrowed time with this. steve
-
differential breather has started leaking, '02 V11,oil running down & starting to drip after a short ride. it's right up to the level plug, not overfull. the breather is not clogged. i've done a short search of forum, can't find any info. i suspect this is a red herring, but i'd just washed engine, trans & diff. and was careful. after checking level & cleaning breather, washed again, short ride, oil running down again. not overfull. there's always been moist from breather, but not like this. breather is only place it leaks. any ideas would be helpful. thanks, steven

so i guess this must mean it was first registered in may of 2002? or sold in may 2002? i've heard this plate number thing before, guess it isn't used in the sticks where i live.
-
my odometer packed it in at 19,000 miles couple years ago, so she'll always be low mileage. :-) on the plus, the speedo & tripmeter still function well so i know (approximately) how fast & when i need to start looking for fuel.
-
i know how i break shift levers....were you & the bike able to avoid much road rash?
-
i have a lowered saddle that came on my '02 Le Mans when i bought it few yrs. ago. it was done by Rich's custom seats in seattle area. (xlnt website) it has a leather cover, is beautiful. didn't use it, it's too short for me, i'm 5'8&1/2" it is in my estimation 1 1/2 to 2" lower. notice you're in So Oregon, i'm 50 mi. north of portland if you're travels take you that way. i'd like $175 plus shipping. cheers, steve saddle edit, the cowling doesn't come with, just the saddle

Congratulations! another True Believer. and i have to agree, it will feel this good every time. cheers, stefano (who just got back from the non ethanol (92 octane) station to fill up & used half the tank on the LONG way home.....
