Thanks for the responses, much appreciated. It does indeed look like the threads are well stripped for that m6 bolt, to the extent that the hole is about 8mm now!!!! I will try a helical. There was one there before judging by the bits left over and it looks like it has just slipped out over time as well. Helical and some loctite perhaps?

Hi, would appreciate some advice. I am a recent moto guzzi owner having picked up a 2003 v11 le mans with only 6k miles on the clock. The one issue I have is that there seems to be a bolt missing that holds the side stand onto the engine casing. The main large bolt is there ok but looks like there should be a second that goes through a hole next tot the side stand switch and then looks like there would be a spacer and then an M8 sized thread in the engine casing just above the sump line. I tried an m8 bolt but it is too big to go through the hole in the side stand bracket as it looks like it around 6 mm wide??? The m8 bolt locates into the engine casing threads ok though. I can't work out what type of fastener guzzi has used here. It looks like something that must be 6mm at one end and 8mm at the other? Very strange. Anyone got a picture of what their side stand mount looks like please?
