  1. I don't feel like riding my bike today.
  2. I think we older folk just get walled in by our past failures. When a problem arises we think of a row of solutions only to immediately discount each one as we had tried those without success in the past. Youngsters try the first solution that occours to them; that probably works and so their confidence grows.

    TIME FOR A DIET?

I do not think the design has anything to do with weight saving, merely the usual showcase for their admittedly excellent custom engineering. Too many heavy bits on show that could easily have been made lighter. Braided steel oil lines, thick alloy alternator cover and unecessary alloy plate on the tank, there is a lot more you can spot. Footgoose, this post should be moved back as it is not about lightweight just another custom bike. Probably built up from a wreck so all new bodywork needed.

    TIME FOR A DIET?

Just been down to the shed and weighed a few bits with my luggage scales so not too accurate. Ex V11 Sport parts: Seat fairing (01.57.31.35) 5.5 lbs Ex Le Mans parts: Fairing assy including L & R main panels with airscoops, top and bottom centre panels, windscreen. 5.9lbs. Fairing mount frame with attach bolts, headlamp adjust mechanism and 'dashboard' panel. 5.2lbs L & R Side panels 1.1 lbs Front mudguard 1.7lbs Fuel tank less filler cap, pump and heatshield. 12.6lbs (heavier than I expected) So in total around 32lbs for the bodywork.
  6. Just seen a Le Mans V11 write off on Ebay.UK A complete bike that apparantly ran into the back of another bike! Says it has a replacement frame and parts to rebuild. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Moto-Guzzi-V11-Le-Mans-Accident-damaged-project-includes-all-spares-to-repair/182993249721?hash=item2a9b3f65b9:g:9A4AAOSwxzdaSl7i
  7. Has anyone tried this 2K Clearcoat aerosol paint? It has a button on the bottom of the can that releases the activater giving you 12hrs to use the can up. Wondered if it would be OK on our plastic fairings and fuel tank. Oh, because I want to feel clever I can now tell you 'K' refers to the German Komponent. So now you know as well. Yes, I see it is a satin finish, they also do gloss. The can of gloss I saw in a local garage was marked at 88E, do not know if that is the price in euros or a reference number.
  8. Well its summer in Aussie Land so give Lucky Phil first shot. PM me otherwise. Edit: Just took another look at the lovely Lady at the top of this thread. Suprised SP838 could afford to use a cash only pump after all the money he spent on her. Beautiful.
  9. I would stick with Loctite. Heat is the answer with any bolt that is secured with loctite. A large soldering iron or a small butane torch will soften the loctite. I use one of those soldering irons with the loop of thick wire that glows red hot. Apply for about thirty seconds. http://henkeladhesivesna.com/blog/how-to-remove-red-threadlocker/ Sorry I did'nt see you starting your job in my crystal ball as I may have been able to save you some grief, must get it polished.
  10. Did you notice the scooter was in front and so must be faster than all those Harleys.
  11. Fair comment.
  12. I assume you've never been over here? It's a BIG place. Only twice on training courses with Bell Helicopter in Fort Worth and Gulfstream in Savannah. They were not holidays so I did not see much more than the hotels and training schools. I was suprised a city the size of Savannah only had a Harley dealer and a garden machinery place that did imported trail bikes. There are two bike shops within a mile of me here and at least another four in the city, which is smaller than Savannah. I have a feeling there are more motorcyclists per head of population in the UK than in the USA. It is not hard to get fifty bikes on a local rally.
  13. I have been sniffing around on Ebay for a pair of Griso/Breva covers for a few months hoping for a good deal. Now you have started this thread everyone will want them and the prices will go up. Thanks. I suppose one good thing is all those round case cover mods will come onto the market now. Please do not start any threads for rear brake levers as I am looking for also looking for one of those.
  14. The Scots told me the only thing to put in whisky was more whisky. They also said never buy whisky in a silly shaped bottle or with embossed stags heads and suchlike - it means they pay more attention to gimmicks and marketing than to making a good drink.
  15. So, all you Americans are going to spring along to Scud's for a Spring spring fitting party?
  16. Good luck with finding your new bike and gelukkig nieuwjaar. Go the front page of this forum. Select 'Reference Section:techniques, procedures and FAQs explained' Select 'Frequently asked questions' Select 'breakdown of model years', it is the last green pinned item. Sorry do not know how to give you a direct link.

    "New" '02 LeMans

$13,000 x 1.36 = $17,680 so only a $10,000 loss over fifteen years! Perhaps fifteen years of riding memories would have been a better bet.

How has that performed as an investment? In other words what did cost in 2002, what would that be now taking inflation into account? Edit. Just did a quick check, $1.00 in 2002 equals $1.36 now. 6995 รท 1.36 = 5143 So $6995 in 2017 = $5143 in 2002 ( please correct any errors in my schoolboy maths)
  19. I feel probably no major damage. I would use the bolts to get yourself back on the road then replace later. Of course most modern bolt threads are rolled rather than cut to give a good grain structure. You will still have the basic good grain structure just trimmed here and there as you cleaned up the thread. Don't worry about it too much.
  20. I think we should just accept that 90hp from a twenty year old designed sub-1100cc, four stroke V Twin, is pretty good really.
  21. Er, its Christmas I'm more worried about dropped mince pies.
  22. I've always liked a bit on the side.
  23. I see her looking back, I hope its me she is missing.
  24. Thanks for publishing that. I may well attend. Is it only Guzzi riders? I have an ex Guzzi Rider mate.
