Genius bodge! Why didn't anyone think of this before. There was a device made up (by Mr Angry?) to do a similar type of operation – but a suitable sized rawlbolt – that must be worth trying.

Apart from anything else, I was thinking about ever-skinnier aluminium bike frames – but I suppose we don't know how long they last for yet. Yeah, I'd rather have a steel trellis anyway. And ye olde Reynolds 531 is still as good as new.
