  1. As there is now a wider coil spring, apparently, the explanation could be that newer bikes now come with a 16mm boss and a bigger spring coil. The bulletin that Baldini posted had specific range numbers. Maybe bikes after that should be 16mm? Why that should be – who knows ? Could be a case of remedying a mistake by making it the norm, instead of going back to original spec. Anyway, it's mostly around 2002 that the problems occured, wasn't it? There's a date list / poll somewhere. If anyone with a newer model (2004/05?) is checking their's, best to be aware of the possibility that 16mm might be the correct size. Only way to know would be to physically check the operation of the two parts together.
  2. only thing is – it's clearly a leprechaun probably get more sense out of one of those fellers, mind
  3. No, but I did find this: "d: 14/03/2005 at 12:28pm | IP Logged Hi *Tiny, I need to find the thread details to put a sandwich plate in between the Suzuki filter and the engine." I mean, honestly! I know someone recently bought a Guzzi with a minature lunch box cable-tied to their bottom frame, but if Suzuki guys are stuffing plates of sandwiches into the oil system... Actually, it just strikes me, there might be method in their madness. They must use the sandwiches to plug the holes in their oil filters! See. Proof. The things are being holed all over the place. PS, is *that your name on the Suzi Forum?
  4. So the white bit underneath is the new external filter? Well, well. "Numerous improvements have been made to the valves too. The seats are now sintered to ensure a constant tappet gap and the latest generation stainless steel exhaust valves are fitted for improved temperature resistance, reduced wear and extended life. Greater reliability. The crankcase, oil strainer and sump have all been redesigned to improve lubrication efficiency. The new configuration guarantees regular oil delivery under all conditions, especially during fierce braking and acceleration. Maintenance is easier too, because the oil filter is now external and instantly accessible."
  5. I'm pretty sure sure it's 14 on the V.11 – so it's an even speedier pit stop. I'm pretty sure sure Paul has (at least) one and other serious tinkerers have them too. I'm pretty sure that all the pics I've seen have the filter at the front. That's why I commented on the possiblilty of it getting holed. It must be right in the line of fire from the front tyre. Imagine the damage that a freshly culled cat could do! I'm pretty sure that if any feline nuisance is going to sit where the filter would sit, it'll be one of those siamese critters. It's probably attracted by the Pong Box. Kippers?
  6. Back to motor vehicular matters
  7. Did you turn it up LOUD?
  8. What do you mean? Is the filter now mounted externally, but in a recessed area?

Well, I have a soft spot for an old Honda XL250. I had some fabtastic camping trips on it. It took me through the Scottish highlands and islands, the English Lake District and the Welsh mountains – sometimes two-up and always with camping gear. I relate that, because it gave tremendous times even though it was only an old seventies 250 single. So when it comes to the Guzzi 1100 twin, why shouldn't such a machine be 200% capable of giving great times too? Comparing it to Japanese sports machines may cause disappointment. It may even seem like a 'has-been' compared to a new Breva or Griso. Dwelling on oil leaks and suspension settings, fretting over tyre treads, gnashing teeth on crashing gearboxs: all valid and 'interesting' things to do, but thankfully they're not ultimately the measure of 'the great motorbike experience'.
  10. Did you see on your radio news – all the old Wallace & Gromit archive has gone up in flames. Still burning four days on Melted plasticene boo hoo But hey, what about that motorbike sound? Did you listen to it?
  11. People on here believe that the external oil filter is a great thing. I don't like the idea of an external filter. I do like the idea of it being inside. Unlike on a car, the V.11 external filter has no protection. It's not a heavy metal construction, so it could get holed. Unlike a car, it's not out of the wind. I definitely don't want that extra cooling.
  12. Here we go. I knew this was the start of The Great Purge. Soon, it will be, "OK Nogbad, we've just moved you to 24/7... so that you don't get lost. You'll like it there." Next thing, he'll be pruned! So Nogbad deserves it, ok, but BEWARE: we'll all go the same way! We're doomed! Doomed I tell you!
  13. You drew a better diagram than mine, DL I think thmpr is talking about the roller, part no.18 in the diagram, not the selector forks.

Thanks, I need the opportunity. Jaap's doing a clearout and I'm afraid he might not know where to stop. So this is it As you like it, click here to get a big one. I'm afraid I don't realy like it. What about a Trabant, same idea or be loyal
  15. Too late. Somebody got there first
  16. right enough, the term 'bob' could confuse you chopper guys. oh - Chopper Guy: good one there were two and a half bob in a half-crown and as far as I'm concerned, there still are I measure the value of things by the fact that a sixpence (of real money), half a bob, would buy a bag of chips
  17. Yes noticed that, but _ could you make enough of a ramp and is there enough spring pressure for that mod to really work? _ are there other mechanisms like this, that use the douple-ended ramp idea? _ making it jump with pliers is one thing, but when the box is all back together and running, will it still jump gears so easily? I don't find the box jumping through gears like that, in practice. Any observations about why some might do it more than others?
  18. I think I've heard recordings of this racing before, but not this particular file. Turn up the speakers or put on headphones. Open this page and press 'Go'. It's quite thunderous. let her rip We were talking about 'warm-up' time. I don't think this one took too long. Fabulous. Then turn the page and look at this: Griso eat your heart out
  19. and it's not even a BMW really, or at least it wasn't
  20. and on the back "- broken already!" ? or what...
  21. five bob
  22. give you two and six for it?
  23. 109 inches was ok about 20 years ago. It isn't much use anymore. But, if you price it accordingly....
  24. Is that it at the top middle of this photo, middle of the arm? Does your cover have an empty hole there? Surely you should put it back, or put a new one back. Why did it come out? Is it a loose fit? Does any of the protruding part fit into a hole in the main box? Or is it just a protruding 'limiter'? I can't remember about this. Could it have dropped out when you took the cover off, or do you think it was lieing in theire since last time?
  25. Just some observations - I don't mean to be hard on the thing. It's obviously a great bike and I would have one if offered. It's just over-inflated. Like this: Let's see what happens after Pete has given one a good hiding. Can we wait that long? What if the bike wins?? Look sheeela, it's the Ropey-Griso! Neat detailing. Look at the way he turned the engine round.
