  1. I've just taken the back wheel out. The new needle roller bearing was running in water (and grease). There was water on the axle when it was withdrawn. Despite being thoroughly packed with grease a month ago and waterpoof grease applied around outside of bevelbox/swingarm interface, it seems that it is easy for water to ingress and lie in this bearing. Best to clean and regrease every time the wheel is off, then.
  2. Haa. Just listened to this on QuickTime after noticing it again on QT Player. The original post was for Windows/RealPlayer) If nothing else, check out, Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana). Oh, oh and, Eye of the Tiger (Survivor) oh, oh, oh and, and, Wonderwall (Oasis) Fantastic. Has anyone bought the album yet? Anyone dared listen to the Spandau Ballet track? The Wonderwall track would be excellent as a background accompaniment to this forum. Can we have that implemented, please?
  3. well, they said that the Y2K bike 'Powered by a Rolls Royce Allison gas turbine engine... over 300 hp and 425 ft/lbs of torque on the Dyno Jet 200...' was done "because it could be", so, now that it's done, I suppose it's time to move onto a new challenge. Why not that lovely big 12 cylinder? Someone should whisper in Honda's big corporate ear.
  4. Bad news on the rumour-mill, Noggin. I hear there's been another batch of oversized parts supplied and some have been inadvertently fitted during recall work. Easily done, I suppose.
  5. I think there are prices & phone numbers at the start of the thread.
  6. There have been a number of threads related to this recently, giving part numbers and prices – much, much cheaper than Guzzi prices. I haven't got time to look now: see what a search throws up and I'll look again later. When you talk about rust I guess you are refering to the needle roller bearing rather than the internal wheel bearings. If the wheel bearings are rusty –> I had trouble getting that bearing out, but it's explained in the thread(s). I put in a new bearing inner ring without the small drilled hole to see if it retains grease/excludes water better. You need to get both the needle roller race and the inner ring: 2 separate parts. And lots of grease.
  7. I don't think it does at all. Methinks you protest too much. There was a BMW rally passing through at the Erin, last month, and I'm sure that it was you that these young gentlemen were asking after. Well, it was either you, or John O'Sullivan. Or was it that J.O'S was asking after them. Oh, now I'm all confused again. Bob and Norman, from the Danish BMW Kruisers Klub.
  8. Re your picture: belfastguzzi Posted Its that porridge thing again. What way do your cylinders really point? You're clearly a BM boy at heart and, ipso facto, not deserving. So sorry JR, got you confused there. It was actually Guzzirider who was the beardy porridge eating BMW fancier, not your good self This link to other thread
  9. well... not quite: in a way that would make a little inkling of sense, but, you can be sure, this was something even more nonsensical: i.e. insane, stupid, ridiculous, idiotic, absurd, crazy, ludicrous, ridiculous etc.
  10. Yeh. Before fitting it I must take this to the factor, where I would get bearings, to see what they say. As I haven't had the original seal out I didn't have any size, number or description to go by.
  11. What a I am. I need a final drive seal, so that half my tyre isn't always covered in an oil slick. I e-mailed Corsa Italiana to get a price and place an order, but true to previous experiences, Corsa sales didn't bother to reply (even though I sent a photo of Corsa's big boss riding his big boss Breva at the Erin Rally). So I decided to go local again. A couple of weeks ago I ordered a final drive seal from 'dealer X from Y' 'cause I thought it would be handy – he's just round the corner, I wouldn't be sending endless e-mails that don't get replies, I wouldn't have something arriving by mail order when I'm not at home and I hoped that the local dealer might absorb the postage cost and the item would just cost the same as if buying it over the counter in England. He rang Motomecca, checked the price, told me it would cost £6 all in, if postage came to more than that he would just absorb it... so I said 'go ahead' and handed over £6. I've endeavoured to get back to collect it a few times but not managed, not least beacause a lorry driver was shot dead in the road outside the shop last week (paramilitary feud). I have just collected it today. I was very surprised when I was asked to pay an extra £6.56: total charge £12.56. I handed over the extra dosh and came back to check the price on Motomecca's website, now that I had a part number. The part price is £3.50! VAT would bring it to £4.24. The postage would be less than £1: I posted a dvd to London today, it was bigger than this package and it cost £0.62 first class (Guzzirider, I also posted the video and it cost £99.99 ) So £8.24 (the price of 2 more seals – no, not those sort of seals, JR –) for... post & packing & a new pair of big socks for the dealer???????? Grrrrr.. local dealers, eh? They sure do have big socks.
  12. The fairing must help of course – I find that the head & neck take a battering on the Scura when travelling quickly.
  13. No, saw the NW200 prior to that time, but not those races (I was too busy out manning the barricades in '74 . I was fascinated tonight to see the (long gone) bike shop in Holywood where I used to get parts for the old XL250. On the programme, the guy showed the new-fangled 400 four. I had a ride on a yellow one from the shop and I remember a friend there counted up what it would cost to assemble one by buying the parts. Of course it came to a shockingly high amount.

  15. BMW – oh look at the time – gotta go and get the video recorder ready
  16. Fantastic. Lovely. If I understand right, the bike is stored, so you aren't riding it all the time. What was it like, then, to get on it and ride for over 20 days, pretty much non-stop? I mean physically. Are you thinking of heading to Scotland at the end of next week?
  17. *Its that porridge thing again. What way do your cylinders really point? You're clearly a BM boy at heart and, ipso facto, not deserving. * not it's
  18. Sorry JR. Grammar police required here: 'its', as used above, should not have an apostrophe. Check 'its' in your Dashboard Widget. I was going to copy the info to here, but it seems that stuff can't be copied out of Dashboard.
  19. the ionising effect produced in the upper atmosphere will decline to a level that will allow either the earth's field to "flip" and/or the ingress of life threatening solar radiations.
  20. Ok I've checked and there does seem to be some sort of Magnatraction device. Scalextric 1:32 Lotus 7 Roadcar Yellow (C2270) Scalextric Lotus 7 Yellow Race Car No.8 Fitted With Magnatraction I'm sure it's not all it's cracked-up to be, but still, Guzzi should look into it.
  21. haven't you heard, Elvis is dead about the Scalectrix: are you bluffing? Since when have Scalectrix run by magnets? Have you made some sort of table top car set from cardboard and magnets, sellotaped on Scalectrix labels cut from an Argos catalogue and given it to your little kiddies at Christmas, conning them that it's the real thing? I think you have
  22. I was losing not a little, but a lot of oil from the joint. The surface repair worked fine and is still as good as ever today. With black over the top, you wouldn't know that it's there. There is a photo of the blue instant gasket repair in the above post – maybe you can see it. With the server problem (?), I'm not getting some of the pictures or avatars & smilies, so the photo doesn't appear for me. I don't know what 'sensor safe' is but i didn't have any adhesion problems after a straight forward clean-up. There was another thread at the time, I wonder what it was called?
  23. only to the deserving poor
  24. got me there: we got coppers but we ain't invented choppers yet, though we're hoping Helicopter Jim will visit soon.
  25. The essentials of the yin-yang school are as follows: the universe is run by a single selector spring, the Tao, or Great Ultimate Spring. This cyclical nature of yin (or moto) and yang (or guzzi), the opposing forces of change in the universe, mean several things. First, that all phenomena change into their opposites in an eternal motorcycle of reversal. Second, since the blah, blah... so, the upshot is, be careful when you mess with magnetism
