Hi Søren It's very strange. All that is needed to change the pawl spring is to take out a few allen bolts and remove a cover. Parts can be mis-aligned when putting this back and it sounds like that is what happened with your bike, resulting in them having to take it apart again. Did they charge you for taking the whole engine out??? At least it's all fixed now and running like a train! Do you know if they fitted the new, revised spring with a bigger coil, or perhaps changed both the spring and pawl arm? If they didn't, and fitted an older 'normal' spring that they had lying in stock, watch out because it will break again.

Better come to Ireland then, 10-12th

7th of the 7th, perhaps a good sign

Thanks for clearing that up. When you originally posted about the 'recall', I suspected that it might have been a translation confusion but it's better to know for sure. It does sound like the spring could have gone. Was that checked? Was the whole gearbox removed at first, or just the sideplate? Seems like you had the whole engine out :!: – do you know why this was done?

1, 2, 3 & 4 This just gets better & better. Must have been one of the most consistently great races today. I even had to feel happy for moaning Max. Really happy for little Loris, throwing & wrestling all the way to the last corner and a fantastic podium. Valentino etc etc etc

well, it's push-bike city anyway

Ahhh. Looks like there's a week of TT programmes coming up on BBC1 now, though people will be heading off to various rallies at the end of the week.
-
At 10.35 tonight on BBC1 NI there is a programme on the TT makeover, 'TT Races'. Depends what you can pick up. BJ can get it I think. Any reception on IOM?

"I had my tranny done here in March and after the recall it runs like a hot knife in cold butter....The only hiccup I faced was that the Danish importer, who had to do the work, managed to assemble the gear box incorrectly, which led to my local dealer had to pull the engine out again afterwards and fix the bloody thing properly." Søren thread here

I don't know anything about a transmission recall, but Soren, I think, said that his 2002 bike was in for a transmission recall. There hasn't been an answer about this yet, but if anyone knows, it would be good to hear.

Yep. They wrapped all the turkeys in baking foil and sent them to America. The good bikes were kept for Europe. Pretty sure I read about in Performance Bikes.

I reckon that eventually Robin GuzzBun will succumb to temptation and buy it for parts. Apart from anything else, a third set of wheels would be handy (knobblies this time?).

Yes indeed: I was going to say, make sure that hose clips are done up tight when you reconnect! I've also said here before, a simple thing: when you pull out the securing bolt and lift the back of the tank, watch out for the big washer dropping off the rubber, as you lift the tank away, and rolling off to get lost...

.1 and .15mm says the handbook = .004" and .006"

Looks good & they have better support than the Gizzi kit. How do they sit on either side? Is any allowance made for the different clearance right and left or does the left pipe sit in closer that the right, viewed from the back? I missed out on footrest hangers on ebay yesterday – I was away when the auction closed. I would get a pair to modify them, otherwise I'll probably make something like yours sometime. As above, are they both the same, left and right? Great bargain, well done!
-
It's still in warranty, just about. I'm sure MG would have given me a new bike.
-
no, no, no...yes, mine went on easy too – the tricky bit is getting the rest of the pipes to look right – and that's when I got the hacksaw out. Tale of woe? Never, it's all good clean fun. Talking about good clean fun, have you tried throwing a bucket of petrol over your Stucchi yet? Check

For the first day in a long time, the rain has stopped. I took the bike out for a short run to 'dry it out'. As soon as I set off, I felt my right trouser leg wet. I thought that it was water coming out from around the seat area – water was also streaming out of the mirrors etc, it's been wet here. After about 5 miles I was surprised that my jeans were feeling wetter rather than dryer. After about 8 miles I wondered why my leg was stinging. The thought flashed through my mind, 'could it be petrol?', but I decided it was just coincidence that my leg was stinging and my trousers were still wet. At about 10 miles I looked behind and noticed a cloud of grey/silvery dust coming from in front of the rear wheel and wondered, 'how did all that dust get in my bike?' At about 10.1 miles I thought: 'that's not dust – that's a petrol spray :!:' As I slowed to pull in a cloud of petrol vapour arose around the bike. I killed the engine & jumped off and could only watch as the vapour continued to stream off the engine/transmission casing, silencer and worst of all, the hot crossover. Fortunately it didn't burst into flames. If it had, I wouldn't be typing this. The bike would have been a charred mess and I might have been too. My right trouser leg, sock & shoe are all soaked through. None of the traffic behind had indicated that anything was wrong. Surely the petrol spray must have been visible and must have been hitting car windscreens for the past 10 miles? The lesson is: make sure that hose clip is fully tightened up. It only takes the smallest little gap for pressurised fuel to jet through. Think about the spray of water that comes through an invisible split or hole in a garden hosepipe. Of course it's all Moto Guzzi's fault...that clip must have been made on a Friday afternoon...the petrol is probably Italian...mutter, mutter...

Ok I've just read the other thread: it seems that you have duplicate parts. It originally sounded like you had too many parts (which is why I had asked if you found out where they went) but I couldn't think how extra parts had miraculously appeared. Forgot about the disaster story behind this and that you got the replacement drive box. So, I suppose you didn't get a look in that needle-roller bearing after all?
-
I thought you might mean that. The one with the hole is the needle-roller bearing inner ring. It goes into that bearing in the outside case of the drive box. The big spacer/washer sits over that bearing in the casing recess, between the box and the swing arm. As a matter of interest, what condition is that ring in? Is there any rust & wear evident? Rust in the needle-roller bearing? Hope you get to the rally.
-
You've just got to work it through, bit by bit, moving the wheel and getting everything lined up as you go. Did you clean & grease the axle? A hammer helps too. What was that second spacer that you were talking about? also put something in from the other side to help it all line up as the axle comes through. Even something like a long screwdriver will shift things enough to move them into place and line-up with the end of the axle.

Well yes, thanks to the operation
