Grrrr...Mr. Bad So you think that riding motorbikes should only be done (and can only be appreciated by) Ogri, Conan the Barbarian and Benny from Crossroads? and you ride an ITALIAN motorbike!

This is following on from the other rear bearing thread. My spacer is very fractionally shorter than the depth of the hub. There is a clear gap between the end of the spacer and a straight edge placed across the bearing face of the hub, but it's only paper thin. With a feeler guage it is around .2mm Of course I don't know what exactly the gap would be with the bearing in, but it seems like any washer is going to be too thick and push the bearing out a bit.

'this perfect, clean greasy bearing' so you have already bought a new one then?

:!: Is that what they mean when they say that an engine is bulletproof?

Shall we lay bets?

Don't worry, Guzzi has made an umbrella. Err.. there seems to be a small fault... Well, it's an improvement on the 'pre-Aprillia' model

Hi Paul, no, I meant the inside ring of the drive side bearing, leaving only the outside ring of that bearing in the hub. Then you are correct – a big screwdriver in there and knock out the other (brake side) bearing, then turn around and drive out that first inner bearing ring. Hope that makes sense. It'll be so easy next time!

The job's a goodun. Well done. V.11 Forum triumphs again. It was easy enough in the end. The trouble was that I started by taking the bearing apart, removing the inner ring. So there was nothing left to hammer against and I tried things such as you suggest BJ. Following KB's advice, (owe you ) I went in from the other end and knocked out the 'good' bearing by catching the edge of the inner ring. It knocks out easy enough. As for the spacer: it is only fractionally short. The hub space is 112.5 mm; the spacer is 112.25; as best as I can measure them.

Hi J The problem is that I can't get at the back side of it.
-
Looks like it. The wobbly bearing that I'm looking at is 'lubricated' by a black metallic paste. While I too could still be out riding and enjoying it, oblivious, this problem would just be getting worse and worse. There's no point in ignoring it. This was going bad from day one. Big J, I haven't started on the needle roller bearing yet. Is it straightforward to get out? Any hints? I'm stuck on the wheel hub bearing at the moment.

Thanks KB. I tried ringing but you're not there. Can someone tell me how to get the first bearing out? I have the inner ring out but can't shift the outer. I don't have a puller. I have tried heat and levering and hammering. Do I just need more brute force, or should it be cut, or what? Presumably the second is easier as it can be knocked out from behind.

A rear wheel bearing is wrecked (I guess it probably went in the first 1 or 2 thousand miles). It's the one on the bevel box side, not the brake side. I haven't removed the bearings yet. The spacer in the hub is loose between the two bearings. It feels like it's at least 1mm too short, but as the bearing is wrecked I can't really tell what the fit was like. There is a short spacer outside the bearing, about 12.5mm long. 1) Is it the long internal spacer that people have reported as being too short and so causing bearing failure? 2) In the manual diagram, it looks like the internal spacer is not just a simple tube, but it has flanges at the ends. Is that correct. Is the only easy fix to add a washer then? 3) Should the whole hub bearing assembly slide out of the hub? I can't make sense of what the manual says. It's very tight and certainly doesn't want to come out. Presumably people change the bearings with the hub assembly in place? 4) The needle roller bearing at the outside of the bevel box is well rusted. Why is there a drill hole in the bearing sleeve? Would it be good to fill in this hole and so maybe keep water out of the rollers?

No. Is that Sky, or where did you see it?

Is anyone from U.K. direction considering going to this?

Don't you think that this is a ridiculous travesty? It makes no visual sense at all. The essence of MG is the shape of the motor that is in it. This is entering Michael Jackson territory.

Yeh, and Jap bikers are 100% rideable straight out of the box too, and are available at all nowadays garages everywhere, but you don't ride that stuff... so don't go messin with that .wav stuff either

Yes it's the Scura. Sorry Philbo – it's the crossover with no silencers (you didn't read the small print ). I think that the standard MG cans would kill it. When I get the MG Ti cans on I'll post the sound. The Stucchi went on without difficulty. I was prepared for a fight, as there have been reports about its bad fit. Disassemble everything and then put it all together in order: it goes on ok. The inlet pipes are a close fit to the sides of the engine block, but ok. The X-over is a heavy duty piece of metal, especially compared to the thin, light metal in the Ti kit. It looks so heavy that I was surprised to find that it's not heavier than the stock MG cross-over. Both are around 5lb, 2.3Kg, in fact the MG lump is a bit heavier. No P Commander yet. First I want to see how it goes with Guzzi's Ti cans and the ECU that they supply for them. I was very tempted by the Quat-D. In the end I went for the more expensive Guzzi Ti kit as it supposedly gives better performance over the whole range and it does come with the dedicated ECU, so it should all work as Guzzi intended . I still have a touch of envy seeing the Quat-D though. Sound Files? I didn't want to upload files to take up space on the site server when I could put in links. The system here only allows certain types of files and, I think, small files to be uploaded anyway???? However it would be the same problem: not everyone using the same format. QuickTime is a universal format, but what alternative would be useful? Jaap, if sound files can be uploaded (and I imagine that you don't want to encourage it and yes I really must make a donation now that I have PayPal working again) what is a reasonable file size and what formats are accepted?

Got a bit of time this afternoon to take stock exhaust system off. Stucchi cross over is now on, but no Ti cans yet. It sounds rather good with just the cross-over though. Stock exhaust sound Stucchi x-over sound put your headphones on

Yeah, my younger son was planning to go too (with friends). Obtaining tickets seems to be difficult though?? so that might knock it on the head for your daughter??? It now seems son probably won't be going as his friends are going to see U2 and they can't afford to pay £150!!! for a U2 ticket and go to Glastonbury as well. Maybe you could try that one – buy her a U2 ticket.

Yes. It's a Royal Decree, doesn't really matter what you think about the government in the UK. Re your interest in Honduras, this should get you started > (BTW, don't know about their Dental Strategy, but their Motorcycle Strategy is interesting. Their key decision was to outsource the manufacture of their national motorbikes to Japan. Turned out to be a very successful strategy and now their bikes are all over the place.
