It depends where you view it from. From some perspectives it looks good: from others, it's lumpy-ugly. Overall, it's an odd mix of styles, shapes and purposes. Unfortunately, Century 21 Guzzi just don't seem capable of 'completeness' – good, honest design with outstandingly simple beauty and integrity. They're not alone in that, though. The Griso is about the best of the bunch and it's different enough, with more good than bad, to be special. The Stelvio was a bad mess from the start, superficially improved now; and all the Breva based variants suffer from... being based on the Breva. The Sport variant looks the best, but they gave it the wrong name: should have been a GT. The only model from recent years that people generally agree to be a good, desirable design, is G-B's MGS. Ironically, it's the design that Piaggio Guzzi refuse to give us. Maybe they'll change their minds, eventually: when we're all too old to ride one. Happy New Year!

Yes, that's one. Do you find there's a nasty oily scum left around the bath after your Guzzi's been in there? Surely a shower is more appropriate?

I know what you mean on the other hand, Nick Sanders seems to do fine, through sandy desert etc, on his R1 with narrow bars and road tyres.

Once the realization is accepted that even between the closest human beings infinite distances continue, a wonderful living side by side can grow, if they succeed in loving the distance between them which makes it possible for each to see the other whole against the sky. Yes, Rilke again. Distantly, yet happily closely yours, Nad O'lag

There are so many things about which some old man ought to tell one while one is little; for when one is grown one would know them as a matter of course. RM Rilke Should be a sub-strapline for V11.the_ride_starts_here.com

I've suggested, more than once I'm sure, that a poetry section on here may be the only way out of this impasse. But nobody listens to me. If You Give a Mouse a Motorcycle If you give a mouse a motorcycle, don't be too surprised if he starts behaving strangely once he knows he's motorized. He may act a bit bizarrely. He may dress a little weird. He might buy a leather jacket and then grow a honkin' beard. When he straps a helmet on his head and boots upon his feet, then you'll see him pop a wheelie and go racing down the street. Pretty soon he'll find he's fond of doing motorcycle tricks. He'll be jumping over cars and trucks and buses just for kicks. He'll start working at the circus where he'll take away your breath as he rides with other rodents in the flaming cage of death. When he accidentally crashes he'll have no more fun and games; just the screech of twisting metal as his bike explodes in flames. And without his motorcycle he'll be fired from his job. He'll become depressed and lonely and a sad and smelly slob. And the only way to save him from this misery and pain is to buy another motorbike so he can start again. So remember this advice: Don't even trust him with your keys. If you need to give a mouse a gift, it's best to stick with cheese. --Kenn Nesbitt

ANSWERED Gearbox Spring / Pawl Arm fix, with pics
belfastguzzi replied to belfastguzzi's topic in Frequently Asked Questions
For now, the pics can be seen on Flickr, here > Transmission Spring These are not in order and there are no comments or notes. The comments are still on the old unsupported site, but the photo links are gone. http://homepage.mac.com/davidboyd1/GuzziRepairs/PhotoAlbum26.html http://homepage.mac.com/davidboyd1/GuzziRepairs/PhotoAlbum28.html After a lot of years, I'm still receiving emails and queries about these so if you want clarification on anything, contact me at belfastguzzi@me.com -
In your what?

It's been brought to my attention that the photos relating to the pawl spring, boss and the rest of the transmission box are not on the web anymore. Unfortunately, I see that all the V.11 related photos that I had on the old homepgage.mac site are gone. This application/website is no longer supported. The photos are still on web storage ok, but the links don't work. When I get time, possibly over Christmas, I'll make a new site or get them up somewhere. Meantime, if anyone wants to see photos of the spring repair or replacement and knows what they want in particular – get in touch. David

If there is a late summer meet, August, for me is better than September because September is full steam ahead with work. I had hoped to get to the Continent this September but the travel time with 2 ferry crossings to get there and 2 to get back meant that I couldn't do it, by one day. Plus my daughter is getting married next September... so in fact maybe I can't afford to go anywhere next year.

You're tempting fate there, laddie. *snap* -
Flicking through French moto mags (they generally seem to have 1 or 2 Guzzis in 'em) in Paris CdG airport yesterday – there were photos and an article on another V7 variant, to follow the Racer. It's a 'Tourer'. 2 big leather style panniers on the back. I think it's an official model. Has anyone else seen the article? New Stelvio also seemed to have rave reviews in Frenchy press, declaring it now the proper Stelvio, unlike the original version.

the add says it all

It would make calculating service intervals a tricky business. Oil would be getting changed after about every 10 miles of real riding. Good spoof indeed. -
ending first check that one with your son, H.

After everything that we've written about that contraption, that's a pretty-well perfect précis. Well done, old...
