  1. ! Re 'Anybody taken this road?' thread http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...st&p=142669 I knew it! I was right – MacGuzzi did filch it. Thieving haggis muncher. Oh well, the Americans have got plenty more roads. Maybe they'll let the Scotties keep this one.
  2. I didn't take it. I've nowhere to put something like that. My guess would be, a Scotsman. They don't like paying for their own roads so the country is all mountains and heathery bog. We'll be up that way next week so I'll keep an eye out and ask MacGuzzi some probing questions. PS If you want it back, I'm not paying the postage.
  3. I was hoping that no-one would ask that. Now I feel obliged to do it. However there are some good modeling diagrams on the web. When I find them again I'll post a link. I think that Paul M. originally posted them? That may save my bacon, er, goose. Luhbo's pic is Vee Dub pot I think. BTW why are folk perturbed by what they're calling the 'offset'? Surely the width of the piece just allows for movement of the rocker on its shaft? It would have been a bit silly to make it exactly the same diameter as the valve stem????
  4. Tonight, a hare, er... hared across the road in front of me. A couple of miles on, a cat did the same. I didn't mind the hare. At least if I'd hit it, it would have made a very fine supper. It was good to see the wild beast. I haven't seen one for a long time In fact, the last time that I saw a hare, it was in my stew pot.
  5. I think that you are mistaken about 6 cylinders. I'm sure that this is Guzzi's new triple.
  6. Doesn't sound like a broken spring. Have you checked all the gear-shift linkage? Anything come loose? Any nuts fallen off?
  7. That could have been serious Gary. Animals, particularly dogs, running through hedges is one of those big scary worries out on country roads. It happens suddenly, without warning. Check your engine casing. When I got similar damage, the timing chest cracked as well, resulting in oil leak. Re Ducati parts: people usually report here that they're cheaper than the Guzzi equivalent or same part. You going to Scotland meet at Ken Bridge?
  8. Terrible news: and it wasn't a newcomer, inexperienced rider. It was 29 year-old Martin Finnegan, a top, experienced and exciting rider. He had earlier won the open race. He died in the accident at Marlacoo Corner during the Supersport 600 race. He was from Lusk in Co Dublin. Edit: Riders behind saw smoke burst from the back of the bike. There has been speculation that he had no brakes. Went straight up the roadside bank.
  9. The trouble with road races is that people get hurt and people get killed. A racer died today and 3 spectators were injured This is the second year in a row that Tandragee has been cut short. Last year John Donnan was killed as he tried to avoid another rider who had lost control of his bike I arrived as the classic race was finishing, bought a programme and got a position in a field by the road. Actually, there would be no more racing finished today. In a while, the day's first 'proper race', Supersport 600s, got underway, though the third wave had a long delay because someone went down just after the start and took a few others with him. By the time the leaders were coming back to the start/finish, the race was over. Something else must have happened. At these events, quiet and puzzlement soon becomes worry. After an hour, it was announced that the race day would be abandoned due to a serious accident. I've just seen now that someone was killed. Think it was at one of the bad corners. The Tandragee is one of the last 'real road races', because of the nature of its jumps and high speed corners that need a lot of learning. The likes of the Dunlops, Ryan Farquar, Adrian Archibald, were in this race. I don't know who died in the accident.
  10. You could claim that it's the new Moto Guzzi 'Classic' model. 'Cos it's so close to what MG are producing, right? Well, even without re-badging, it sure is a gorgeous find.
  11. There are interesting perspectives in this amateur vid of the Tandragee 100, which is on later today. Not a bad wee video
  12. Yeh the lunge at higher revs caused a when it first took me by surprise. I find it hunts a little when maintaining low revs, up to about 3,500. Not snatchy, but not dead smooth. The surge from low revs is not as aggressive as I might have expected, but I'll test that again this weekend. I think the effect seems a bit soft because it's all pretty easy, there's no big deal about winding on speed and the ride and the noise are civilised. My V.11 puts out a lot more noise ('cos I want it to) when it does (used to do) the same sort of stuff. The other thing is that engine braking is nowhere near as noticeable / effective as I thought it would be. Perhaps that's 'a good thing'. It may be because of that stepper motor effect that's been discussed elsewhere. All in all, very engaging, as a MG twin should be.
  13. WHEN Bendy gives me my point, I'll share it with you.
  14. What did you get with the Stelvio?
  15. Did you see the time lapse Superbike rebuild? Oh to have a workshop with space in it, lovely. http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/nw200...elapse_bike_512
  16. Don't just stand there man, get on with it! 'Mild' had me flummoxed for a minute, but I guess you mean Wildguzzi? Let us know when you post it. By the way, a minor(ish) point, but what do you think of the motor's whining? Maybe it's not so present for you if you're operating in more open spaces at higher revs than those of us in town/city traffic? The whole inlet-airbox is a bit of a crocodile. Are you going to... tamper with it?
  17. Ah ha. It's a helmet lock cable? There is a steel rod spur-finger-what would you call it? welded to the frame under the seat, the purpose of which I could not see. The cable eyelets must slide onto it. I'll check tomorrow. So why the fancy shrink-sleeve at one end of the cable? Must be to ensure that the cable-cover sleeve is tight to both ends and no cable wire is exposed, though I can't see why that is crucial. A point to me, Bendy, you dirty rotten multi-voting poll-cheater.
  18. They're alloy and they're rounded profile.
  19. On being a couple of inches away from bikes doing 200 mph It's May, it's nearly NW200 time. 150,000 spectators from around the world are expected this year. S-u-s-t-a-i-n-e-d flat-out straights; hairpins; you might want to watch it (main day 17th May) at http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/nw200/ Superbike races will feature the cream of road racers including NW200 record holder Michael Rutter on board the Ducati. Steve Plater is the current circuit record holder at 124.109 mph. Is anyone going to be here in the early part of the week? At the moment, there's some good footage on that site, from 2007. Look at the 'Onboard Montage 2007'. '2007 Action' has stunning, er, action. See also http://www.northwest200.org/ but the BBC site, above, is a cracker. And this is a good feature: Michael Rutter's guide to viewing points on the circuit http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/nw200...v=mathers_cross http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/nw200...tml?v=york_road etc 2005 Remember Rutter cracking 200mph on the road? Watch this –––––> Good video of the year that 201mph was being topped. http://www.u.tv/nw200/asx/liveaction-x_1.asx ~ compilation http://www.u.tv/nw200/asx/liveaction-x_2.asx ~ Superbike race http://www.u.tv/nw200/asx/liveaction-x_3.asx ~ onboard http://www.u.tv/nw200/asx/liveaction-x_4.asx ~ onboard from start If you're pressed for time, here's a short couple of minutes from 2006 on YouTube - Duke Video http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xnQS3ngyUEY
  20. This is no tailgate hook-up! I said, this is sophisticated! Look at the sleeving up at the top end.
  21. As Guzzitech has got a bug, I can't post there, unfortunately. So I'll post here. Not that you guys would know anything about the toolery required by MODERN sophisticated motor cycles. So The opulent toolkit supplied with my Griso 8V has a few items extra to the list in the User's Manual. The Manual shows: one toolkit pouch, nice one screwdriver one fuse-puller one open-ended spanner two Allen keys Here's what I got. It must have been packed by Santa because there are these extras: another Allen key a box spanner and a mystery item. What on earth is the cable with the eyelet ends for?
