If you mean the clutch, I'd say definitely no – problem is in the gearbox. My gearbox oil was fresh. I filled it more, when I eventually found a garage with the right stuff, but the level didn't make any difference. Problem later reoccurred, on the way home from that trip, where it happened last.

The eccentric wouldn't suddenly go out of adjustment and make the box lose shifting capacity, would it? Have people found it working loose? Surely there would be a noticeable degradation in gear-change, before complete lockout? Suddenly locked out of shift: must be the spring? Well, probably the spring, but a second thought: there's the other mystery problem that has been reported over the past few years but has never, to my recollection, had a satisfactory answer. Sometimes the box refuses to shift up and I've found it to be from second gear. Wasn't there another recent thread about this again? I don't know how that ended. Anyway, for me, all I could connect it to was that the engine / box was hotter than normal. It simply wouldn't change up from second. I even ended up opening the box at the side of the road to change the spring – but there was no sign of anything wrong. Linkage all working fine too. Others have also related this to heat. It's a mystery alright.

Yes, though my mistake was to get off with engine running. It was the engine vibration that walked the bike forwards over the stand. True, it would have happened quicker if I'd also put it in gear. Just get it over and done with - is that what you're advocating.

The RULES are clear. It doesn't have to be a motorcycle. It can be 'something'. "1) Post a Picture of something preferrably a Motor Bike of some origin" -

Saw a pristine 750 triple out yesterday. A 'badder' bad boy than the Z1? -
They probably don't vibrate and shake as much as the Guzzis. I don't know anything about Harleys: someone said last night that their sidestands lock in position when they are down/out, so the big V twin can't over-power the stand mechanism. Maybe that was in older days?

Yeah. I replaced a set already. Only 2,500 miles ago. There's more than the seals needs done. And then it's been the old and dreaded space / time / weather problem. -
Absolutely - that's the question. Even on this newishly designed model, the sidestand is short, almost vertical (and in an awkward position). It takes very little forward movement of the parked bike to collapse the stand – and down goes the heap. Don't Guzzi know that two wheels just aren't stable? I see DL's bike broke a pivot bolt (different one) at the same time. It MUST BE an epidemic. Bikes are collapsing as we speak, er... type.

Oh yeh. It's as good in a different way. Except that it's not going, which is a drawback. Well, it's going, but it's not fit for the road. New fork seals or a new bike? It was easier to buy a new bike. -

Yes! I stopped at a caravan that night, at Cloughey. I discovered a small 'pocket' set of paints with a tiny brush that I must have left in a drawer there once – so I set to it. I would actually like to keep a log of the bike with pictures and maybe drawings, maps etc... Certainly I'll keep some sort of patchy record on the web and on file, but I'd like to keep a more personalised version on paper. I'm sure some others must dabble at this? While most of the pleasure is in the doing, a great deal of pleasure is in the remembering, re-tracing too. Trouble is – I don't do your sort of traveling, so I may end up with more pictures of breaks and repairs than of 'great journeys'. Still: it's preparation for... someday. Re Coney Island Indeed. I specifically mentioned the names of Coney Island and Ardglass because I knew they would resonate with some people. Now you know a bit of what the area looks like. 2009 V.11 Rally? It might have to be a 'Guzzi' meet rather than just V.11s -

A correct answer and a pertinent question to round it off! The question adds a faint air of uncertainty to the splendid preciseness of the answer, so demonstrating the humility of the knowledgeable answerer (now there's a strange word). Bendy – give this man a point! -
Yeh I was considering it fortunate that the big casting wasn't cracked. It seems vulnerable. That pivot bolt is made of cheese. Do you think that's a safety / sacrificial feature? I'm putting steel in 'cos it's all I can make do with at the moment, but I've a slight nervousness about the whole-lot going down again and the steel bolt causing the alloy plate to break. I'll probably ask in the Griso forum, as you say that it's been happening to others. :!: You put your foot under and nothing broke!
-
Well, not smiling at the moment. First breakages. Bodging time again... Pics here, if you care to look: breaks and temporary fix.

By George! You're close to obtaining a point. You're just not very precise with the age. -

The pictures don't always load. Sometimes it needs a reload / refresh and they come up. If anyone can explain the limitations of putting linked pictures on the site, I'd be glad of any replies, here or in the 'Motha Forum' thread. E.g. is there an optimum max. number of links; is it better to keep pics to a certain size, even though they're linked. This may all depend on the bandwidth / performance of the hosting server? -
Pity you're not coming to the Scotland gig. MacHaggis' room will be the place to be.

"Napoli, among his violent attacks was even reported to have used an electric drill to bore into a rival's arm, and nearly crushed his face and dislocated an eye. He put a severely beaten rival in the hospital for four days. And he threatened to kill any associates who went to the police. "What you did was uncivilized," said U.S. District Judge Harvey Bartle III" Context is everything. Over here, that activity has been deemed 'political', so the guys who did it for years – walk free. Actually maybe that's why I find the sight of local or UK bikers in Hells Angels colours / pose so bizarre. There are Outlaws ---- and then there are outlaws!

those guys are business angels I bet they could fix you you up with some resources pretty quickly

errrr... that one is Barack Obama, circa New Hampshire. A pretty neat programme. The 'gizashot' – no idea. I'll take a leap – and guess that there might have been a programme called, 'The Crankie MacTavish Happy Hour'?

"In March 2008 it was revealed in a BBC documentary interview of an FBI agent that Hells Angels members attempted to carry out a plan to murder Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones in 1969 in response to a dispute with him over concert security they had provided. The gang members planned to kill Jagger by reaching him by sea at his vacation home in Long Island, NY. The plan failed, however, when a storm hit their boat, throwing the men overboard" Oh er... not sailor-boys then. I know the 'old' Angel stuff – it just always seems so bizarre to see people in the UK, for example, in 2008, dressed as and describing themselves as Hells Angels, like any other off-the-shelf lifestyle statement. What's the substance?
