  1. Ha ha I did indeed mate...! Still got a wee glow on. Cheers
  2. G'day folk's Well I finally managed to get a ride in and properly try these new settings! Friday had the day off to take Dad to a meeting so the plan was to ride to Dad's and brother would drive the three of us to the meeting. The weather forecast for Friday was going to be 7 degrees and a sunny high of 13 but no wind or rain...you beauty! Of course it was nothing like that come 5.30am Friday, the scenario for Friday is now Saturdays forecast! Bugger it I've been hanging out to get a ride in for over a week now so sod it and into my wets and off we go. The rain has eased but roads are soaking (here goes my nice clean bike too!) so gassed up and we hit the twisty bits Drouin to Lang Lang.Bloody hell this feels good.I know I didn't get much of a chance to try the settings as before but having gone with Guzzimoto's suggestion and winding settings all the way in ( closed ) and counting back from there to get a true setting of +3 C and +9 R ( as opposed to counting back from full open ) I reckon it has made a difference! By this stage we're in the higher part of the road and it's now raining quite hard in bursts and there's a bit of muck from the various farms that face the road, but I notice more FEEL from the front which made light of the conditions! Ha ha I reckon I rode it a bit harder than I would normally do in the wet too. Interesting and looking forward to the ride home later. So the sun's out @ 1pm but it's drizzling at times by the coast ( at least no sign of the predicted hail ) and the Lang Lang to Drouin road is damp this time round as opposed to soaking as per ride in. I was going to behave but when fate tempts you with an open and clear road with no traffic on it what's a bloke to do....? Ha ha this road has a bit of everything open sweepers and some slightly tighter ones on leaving Lang Lang and the coastal flats then it tightens up as you climb into the tail end of the ranges ( about 200-250 metres altitude ) and run along up and down round and round before coming into Drouin. All up about 40 kays of fun but the road is tricky due to conditions in parts ie Road subsidence /overbanding/ potholes and on one climb, dips which have the bike airborne on two occasions. At the 100k speed limit it's actually fun but anything more and you need to pay attention so it's a VERY GOOD test for your suspension! I'm impressed at how much more feel I now have from the front end and will leave it at these settings for a while longer and ride more and on other roads to evaluate further. This road throws up some big hits and the old girl never deflected and when landing from airborne never bottomed and landed straight and true so I reckon I'm nearly there. I may try C4 R12 at some stage just to see how it goes.... But I'm thinking that maybe any further adjustments may have to come via shim stack for high speed compression on next suspension service? Then again this road would please the moto cross fans in the audience so we'll leave it be for a bit. Really looking forward to my next ride! Cheers Guzzler.
  3. Quite a collection you've got now Tom! Enjoy mate, but hope you've got enough left in the kitty for the IPA... Cheers Guzzler
  4. Probably make for some interesting stoppies.....
  5. Kin oath....
  6. Actually I didn't think of that..... The new V7 850 motor would be a fair bit lighter. Then again I've seen these sorta vehicles with S and S 1.7 to 2.0 litre Vtwins up front so may be possible with some jiggery pokery..?
  7. And Guzzi content as well.....! Wonder what it'd be like with a big block motor? 1400 Cali maybe...
  8. Me too! We've even got the wee English type lanes round here where it'd be a bloody riot! Brilliant. Cheers
  9. G'day mate Yep I realised after I posted that Chuck's Scura has Ohlins suspenders so not relevant to our set ups. Funny though his settings aren't far off mine all the same.... Cheers
  10. Well, I've just re-adjusted my forks... Dialed both Comp and Reb all the way back into full closed and counted back... So now Comp is a true + 3 from full open and Reb is a true +9 from full open. All I need now is for Moses to part the sea of responsibilities for a wee bit so I can go play in the hills...... Cheers Ps maybe he could put in a good word to the weather god (s) as well ?
  11. G'day folk's Thanks Chuck... Sounds like you had the mighty Scura set up pretty similar to my greenie! As mentioned I'm going to wind mine back full in and then work back out to C 3 and R 9 instead of full out and work back in and test. I'll test this to see if any difference and may try R @ 12. Will report again when I can. Cheers Guzzler Ps LG it is worth persisting mate, as these things are a lot of fun in the twisty bits....
  12. G'day folks Thanks for that input Doc and Guzzimoto. I may just reset the compression damping by going to fully closed and then open by 13 clicks ... This should realistically put me where I'm at now with C3 but just guaranteeing that it is a genuine + 3 from full open and see how that goes? Maybe I'll also try Rebound fully closed then open by 6 clicks to give + 12 from full open..?This would theoretically be about 3/4 in... Well I never got to ride my fun way home tonight so couldn't fully test my changes a bit more....Bugger! Still where I'm at now is WAY better than it was before I had the work done. Looking forward to some free time to ride and decent weather to test these changes! Cheers Guzzler
  13. G'day mate I had some work done on my suspension late last year and have been fiddling / adjusting and basically learning this dark art ever since ha ha. I did post my findings at the time and have been meaning to add to the post for anyone else in the same boat as myself but since seeing your post I'll add my findings here. Firstly as per GuzziMoto if you have an early red frame you NEED to BLOCK those holes in the compression side so the oil doesn't blow through them! If you don't you'll have NO compression damping whatsoever until the last inch and then BANG almost hydraulic lock! This is fun cranked over in a bend.....NOT. Then get springs for your weight and install....I'm 90kg's and bike is 220kg's so all up about 700lb's in the old money which means I have .95kg linear springs. Once you've done this only then can you start adjusting / fiddling and testing to see what works for you. I also found some good info on settings.... Forks, if you have the correct springs for you and bike you should use as little compression damping as you need to avoid bottoming out and let the springs do the work! I also found a ratio of compression to Rebound of 1 to 3. So if Comp set to 3 Rebound should be 9. I work mine thus... wind all the way out ( loose ) then clicks back in.So my forks are set at Comp 3 clicks in from full loose ( out ) and Rebound at 9 x clicks in from full loose (out ).Incidentally I also found out that most forks are set up to work best with Rebound set up at about halfway. Given our forks have 18 Rebound settings 9 is halfway! As for shocks, I have a Hyperpro 460 Emulsion shock which has preload and Rebound adjustment only. However adjusting the Rebound also adjusts the compression in a set ratio. From what I gather the comp/reb ratio for shocks is 1 to 2. Anyways as per the notion of forks working best with Rebound in the middle of it's adjustment the shock came set up for me with + 25 of 50 possible settings ( half way again ). So where am I at the moment.... Forks up through the triples by 8mm ..Comp +3 Reb +9 Hyperpro steering damper at +4 Hyperpro 460 shock with Rebound at + 28 which is good. ( I did try + 30 but bit harsh on our goat tracks might try 29 though) I gotta say though even with the limited riding ( and in some pretty ordinary conditions too ie wind / rain ) I'm bloody happy with it like this and feel like I'm really really close. Ha ha I'm on the bike again tomorrow and will hammer her through the fun bit on way home again... hopefully less wind and no traffic so I can test her a bit more. Cheers Guzzler Ps do the mods and get correct springs before trying to adjust as only wasting your time otherwise mate. Pps as for sag I don't know much about that but am lucky that it was set up pretty well that way for me at least earlier on. Hope this helps but bear in mind I am NOT a suspension expert and this is only what I've been able to glean so far! These bikes do handle well once you get it right so do persist.
  14. Actually after reading this post it would appear that I'm definitely in the minority when it comes to ear plugs and not wearing them! Anyone else not using them...? Cheers Guzzler
  15. Ha ha...Maybe I could pull the wool over my ears....? I do realise that if you bought decent ones they'd fit better and perform better but just not my cup o Darjeeling I'm afraid. Ole mate Dave won't ride without them either and shakes his head at me too! Each to our own I guess eh. Cheers
  16. I can't stand wearing ear plugs.... They just aren't comfortable for me and bugger up my balance.Maybe I'd get used to it but not willing to persist with them. I too love the sounds of the bike and the road undiluted by either earplugs or music! Been riding since I was 17 and I've done some big rides in my time and thankfully I still have my hearing and no tinnitus touch wood. Don't know what's going with me but I'll carry on as I've been doing so far.... Cheers Ps It's 8 degrees here so I won't be going out in a tee shirt and shorts.. but maybe I'll wear my Bavarian wooly alpine hat backwards when we go shopping....? Ha ha bound to wind the wife up.
  17. For a cruiser that actually looks quite good....
  18. Might be able to afford the spoked wheels for the greenie if able to wheel that outa the shed and flog it......
  19. My wife had one back in the day too... Holden Monaro. It was a 186 ( 6 cylinder ) as well. She loved it too and mentions the car every now and again! This was before we met but wouldn't mind pulling one outa the shed these days! Might be able to afford a few more bikes ha ha Cheers
  20. I've also seen a carbed 1100 sport with a chromed version which looks pretty good too! Being chrome it would probably be easier to keep clean and looking good longer? Cheers Ps Doc with 200k +.... she's allowed a wee bit of er patina.
  21. That looks good mate. The standard one looks manky pretty quickly.... But it's in the firing line so to speak. Cheers
  22. Pps Might have to poke about a bit more in Noojee and Nayook and points thereabouts and see what comes outa the woodwork!
  23. Actually I forgot about ole mate with the greenie from Wonthaggi....But that doesn't get ridden a lot from what I gather. Only other was a Tenni when I was able to get to a few club meetings but that's been sold and disappeared. Hens teeth and rocking horse droppings seem to be more prevalent... But I'll keep the V11 flag flyin....! Cheers Ps if there are more about they ain't out on the road and hate to think of them couped up in sheds not being ridden!
  24. Geez A spine raid here would be a party of one..... Bugger
  25. Yep I've often thought myself ( and mates ) very lucky indeed to have been able to indulge and enjoy ourselves back in the day without today's consequences! Cheers
