  1. Done, and done. The machine shop wasn't too expensive and did it on the spot. So I had the turn the weights and add a groove for the mirrors at the ends. I like it, and the plus is... they don't vibrate nearly as much as the stock mirrors! There goes.
  2. Between 4k and 5k rpm, the handlebars can vibrate pretty badly. Yes, in a way I'd be making the mirrors more blurry by putting them on the ends, but then again I still prefer a blurry picture of a car behind me to a blurry picture of my elbow... The ends I have on are one piece screwed in the bars, I will stop by a machine shop tomorrow and see how much they'd charge me for the mod. thanks for the tips.
  3. Well... I was tired of looking at my elbows when I ride and try to look behind, so I decided to try and find a set of bar end mirrors. As this is really a test, I got a cheapo set off of ebay. Turns out though, that they wont fit over the bar end weights on the V11 (2001 V11 sport) The weights are too big, and they don't have enough thread that I could squeeze the mirrors between the bar's end, and the weights. I dont thing I can really ride the Guzzi without the weights on... there's enough vibration as it is, I guess removing the weights would make it too uncomfortable. There are generic weights available, but it doesn't look like they have the same weight as the one on the Guzzi... those are pretty heavy. So... any of you guys figured how to install bar end mirrors on your goose? What metal are the weights made of? Could I get a notch cut out to install the mirrors on? Something I haven't thought of that you have?
  4. Cable clip that attaches under the headlight?
  5. Top brands like Shoei and Arai are just too expensive for me. I'm happy with my G-Max for highway and HJC for city. Why would you pay 500$ for a helmet that you are supposed to replace after 5 years, and that studies have proven isn't safer than the 100$ one? Are Arai or Shoei really better, in terms of noise, design, confort etc?
  6. You know... before the Guzzi I had a 77 BMW. The BMW has the same kind support and more info available online than I could ever have used. One of the reasons why I was attracted to Guzzi when I switched was that it has the same level of info and enthusiasm attached to the brand. People get scared of Guzzi because of that lack of dealer support (where I'm at anyways). But if you have a set of tools and an internet connection... I don't see that as a problem. And since I tend to keep it running by myself... Japanese bikes scare me more than Guzzis for sure.
  7. When it happens, try this. Take seat off. Turn key on. Listen to wirring of fuel pump priming. If no wirring, tap relay number 4 (I think) You may hear a click, then the wirring of the pump. Should then start right up. It is strongly suggested to tightem the relay sockets, and maybe replace the relays. You can get them at any electronic parts supply store for around 3$. Or you can get'm online.
  8. Will do. Thanks.
  9. I have a 2001 V11 sport. It would appear that my starter is intermittent. It used to happen rarely, but this week, it's getting very annoying. I put the key in and turn. Then I press the emergency cutoff switch (I always stop the engine with the emergency switch) I hear the fuel pump prime, the headlight and instruments turn on. I pull the clutch, press the start button... and nothing... I've swapped the relays, made sure the battery connection is tight. No change. But the thing is, it's intermittent! Sometimes, it starts right up. Sometimes, it's dead, then I'll turn the key a couple times, and the starter will turn on the second or third try. Yesterday it must have taken 10 minutes and trying again and again...till it finally came to life. This morning... started right up. I don't even know where to start, but I'm scared that that one time when I'm 400 miles from home, out in the middle of nowhere... it just won't start no matter what.
  10. I've had a leak from a cylinder base, but that was on my old R60/7... I guess it doesn't count.
  11. I crashed last year and my right side exhaust got pretty scratched. It's a stock exhaust on a 2001 V11 sport. (Plain aluminum.) So... if anyone has one lying around that they'd be willing to sell... ping me in a PM. Thanks...
  12. There IS a brand new 2004 MGS on Ebay UK at the moment. If you can afford it... There are also 4 V11s for sale on WildGuzzi

    Seat pad?

I eventually decided, for now... to go with this. Canadian Tire Gel seat coussin I made four little holes in the cover and passed some straps through. I can clip it on and off the seat in less than a minute. It's almost the exact same size as the stock seat. It's VERY comfortable. AND it was on sale for 16$ WIN!
  14. I went on a ride today. A little chilly but I felt like going out for a couple hundred miles. On they way back, stuck in highway construction traffic, I stopped next to two kids on Japanese bikes. All black, slick tires, pretty fast looking. And they saw the V11, and both gave the an enthusiastic and appreciative thumbs up. And I though... hell yes! The V11, to me... is one of the best looking bikes... ever. I love this bike, and I'm lucky to own one of the very rare Canadian ones... That's all. Have a nice day. Enjoy you ride.
  15. Could a blocked breather valve/hole be causing pressure buildup to push oil up the cable?
  16. This thread reminds me of the first time I did the clutch job on my first 1977 R80/7 5 years ago. Tons of good advice. Lots of material to read, making sure I had all the right parts and info needed. In the end, turned out it's really just all nuts and bolts...you'll probably find it was easier than you anticipated. Wax on... wax off... You'll probably be just fine. ;-)
  17. I have read/heard that you do NOT want to add moly to synthetic tranny oil. It has a tendency to form clumps.

    Seat pad?

I want to improve my comfort, but I don't want to drop 400$ to have the seat redone... I'm cheap like that. Anyone use a seat pad? Comments on brand, type? Airhawk? Gel pads? Sizes and shapes?
  19. You are very much more scientific in your approach than I am. my relay testing usually stops at: Take seat off Turn ignition on. Tap relays. Whichever one goes "click" when I tap it is the defective one... I usually keep 4 spares in the space behind the seat.
  20. conspiracy theory no 1: magnetic releasing compound. Once you've worn the slippery stuff off you're in the clear. Conspiracy theory no 2: a small percentage of tyres come with a screw pre-fitted to boost revenue Conspiracy theory no 3: the fitters bash one in when youre not looking Cons.... Forget it... Sods Law is all... I would add a number 4 Shop pays someone to spread screws and nails around all street corners surrounding the shop. Dropped it at the shop to get a new Metzler V8
  21. You did replace the stock relays right?
  22. Thank you!
  23. Relay is engaging but not releasing. Capacitgor inside the relay may be burned out. Could be the transistor too. Wrong bulb usually makes it go faster by changing the load, but doesn't freeze it. Personally, I would try replacing the relay first.
