maybe I'm just reading this wrong, but you're describing normal behavior. The sidestand switch does kill the engine if the bike is in gear (neutral light off). You want the engine to run- in gear, with the sidestand down? Congrats! Nice Bike! J

You want the MGS? YOU CANT HANDLE THE MGS! Sorry- HJ started it. MSG is monosodium glutamate, a salt of an essential amino acid. Some people are sensitive to it, most people aren't. For that matter, some people are (mortally) sensitive to phenylalanine, hence the warning on the diet soft drinks that contain nutrasweet. Perhaps the reason some people are sensitive to glutamate is because it is also a neurotransmitter. I dunno- just a thought. Monosodium glutinate would be the salt of a protein called glutin, which is the 'wheat protein'. Glutin contains glutamate.

Wow, that is a one cool story, Steve! Back to your original post- what do you mean by "3 minutes of air"? You had the ignition on so the pump was pumping air for 3 minutes, or was this just built-up pressure?

Where can I get a colour matched nose fairing?
jrt replied to Guzzirider's topic in Technical Topics
I really like the look of this guy's products (well, some of them). I can't remember who, but somebody on this board turned me on to them. If I ever ditch the S fairing, I'll get one of these. (turn the volume down- the website has annoying aural accompanyment) -
I'd like to echo St. Augustine and give you the Carl Allison Admonition- :!: *Have the frame checked for straightness* :!: as well as checked for any other damage before you accept payment from the insurance company. It's worth it for the peace of mind.

ok, ok- I'll see what I can do to set up a 'new bike' thread. It's really spring, I guess, when a young man's thoughts turn to flights of Geese.
-
Also....check out the other threads that ask similar questions to yours. We should make a sticky for the 'should I buy a Goose' thread.... back to your regular scheduled programming....

First thing to do is stop by Carl's house and offer to help him pack (good to build up karma points). Second- there are NO 4V heads in production by Guzzi at this time. I think I read of a kit some Germans are making, but man, that's big bucks for not much return. The 4V heads do produce more HP, but at a cost. The 2V head bikes are great- Guzzi has been making them for years, they have pleasant, consistent power delivery, and plenty of it for normal street riding. If you want insane power, you're looking for a Japanese 4 Cyl, not a Guzzi. Don't be suckered in by magazines and fools like us on the intarweb. My , get it, ride it, leave it alone for 1000 miles. Then start to assess what you want- more top end? More bottom end? Fringe and tassles on the brake lever? You'll be in a better position to recognize the strenghts and weaknesses of the bike. Also, there are not any sites that make 'a lot' of performance parts. This is too small a marque for that. You can get a K&N filter, a PCIII, some pipes, there's an excellent machinist that does head work. That's about it. If you really want to go fast, invest in some track days and some instruction. J PS- good on ya!

Kind of an off-beat question, but does anyone know if the pump is magnetic or shaft drive? If it's magnetic, the motor will never stall- it will just decouple from the impeller.

Hmmmm, well, yes you can adapt a set of bars to the V11, but I don't know the answer to your second question since I have a Sport with a dinky bar mounted fairing. I have the Speigler bars- they're fine, but they are aluminum, so all the standard bar end weights and throttle locks will not fit. Jason

yeah, deep calming breaths, man. Find out whether the guy had insurance first. If so....use it and use the heck out of it. He does have an obligation to return your bike to the condition it was in prior to the accident. Hold him to that (like I have any doubts you will). Remember, you can get some parts cheaper aftermarket than you can from Guzzi- turn signals, brake lever, spark plugs :!: , mirrors, rear brake from MPH, etc. It won't help you now, but I put a set of crash bars on my bike in anticipation of track day later this month. Hopefully, I'll never use them.

^^^ funny. Al, did you see the *steel* timing gear just up the way from Pete Roper's pictures? They can fracture as well. If they were in the bikes, then two of them would let loose and 35 people would get up in arms about the shoddy casting and how every Guzzi is a primed grenade. Arrr, where's my medicine? But fundementally, I agree with you- I like's the gears in me Eldo. They don't whine so much as whir. It's much more endearing.

If you do the trip right, you can meet up with plenty of people for and (being Wisconsin and all). There's an excellent dealer near me in eastern Iowa, FWIW. 35 yo? You can do this standing on your head. No problem.
-
Not sure if #2 reason is on this board. Pete does rail against them, that's a fact. Short answer is that some Al gears have been known to gall, and shed Al filings into the oil. Then bad things happen. Whoop- just found it- 1/3 of the way down on the left side: http://www.guzzitech.com/Shrapnel.html

Ben, Sorry. As others said, this is the opportunity for you to do all that cool stuff you were contemplating. Also, consider investing in one of these. Yes, Jihem, the Prius is a hybrid. Good cars- I have on also.

I've done 800 mile days on my V11, and have riddden from Iowa to Maine no problems. I don't know that I would have liked it with clipons. I replaced them with bars. A few choice additions can make for a very pleasant riding conditions. Consider getting a sheepskin. I know, I know. But they work. I think you'd have a great time riding the bike home and it should do it no problem. Yes, some clutches have been known to grenade-if it worries you (I don't have any statistics, but I think it's a low fraction) just factor in the cost of a new clutch ~600 bucks if someone else does the work (that's a guess).

2002+ V11 Sport Models *DO* Have The Diode
jrt replied to al_roethlisberger's topic in Technical Topics
And if it has fried, you may not be passing current through it (referencing your thread on the ECU). That's a pretty simple hypothesis that he EE fellow will think off right off. Thanks for the info...even though I have an '01. Now I gotta go feel up my wiring harness. I feel dirty. -
Sorry

you might also ask Cliff Jeffries, since he reverse-engineered one. -
A tangential question- if you have a PCIII, can't you make several maps (say one with baffles, one without) then load them up as needed? J

Sorry Belfast, I already used this one. Killenger and Fruend ~1930

It is an awfully big bike for a first one. Consider taking the MSF course whether you get it or not- they'll give you some good instruction on safe riding techniques. The price of the bike sounds a little high to me as well- try negotiating- it can't hurt and you might get a better deal (or walk- hey, there's always another one). Just FYI, the zipper on the MG jacket is European style- it's on the wrong side for us 'Mericans.

carapace= decorative pillion cover in the context of a V11. Otherwise, a carapace is the shell of a turtle. If anyone has the L/H 'ham', I'm looking for one.
