  1. I've got the same tank protector on my bike. I'll see what I can find also. It was on the order of 10-15 bucks. J "pleather" that cracks me up.
  2. yep, carapace = seat cowling.
  3. Nice bit of information and evaluation. I don't suppose the PDA is waterproof?
  4. I'm dyin' here. I just love the 'backoff' mud flaps. Hell yeah, I'd back away from that thing. Nice exhaust pipes and dual headlights; this guy has the whole package

    guzzi sighting?

What a POS movie. Sorry, and I like JC films. What pissed me off was that the sound people overlayed an inline 4 instead of a Guzzi. The Daytona sounds like a RRXYZZ650
  7. Wow. That would warrant some new underwear.

    Well I saw it...

Carl- I deleted your redundant post. Jim- the object is to have fun! Sounds like you're already a winner! J
  9. The (older) Sport doesn't have bars- it already has clipons. What year and model do you have? If you are looking for clipons- have you checked out the Verlicchi or Tomaselli clipons? http://www.mgcycle.com/bars.html (if you call up cheesehead, he can probably tell you which ones will fit your bike) I didn't see anything on the MPH website, but they are certainly worth a call.
  10. Well, it's just too long and too angular. To fit the bike, it needs more graceful curves (think Sophia). Paul did a great job on his design because it flows with the curves of the bike. I know I wouldn't buy one (sorry), but I would like to see what you could come up with for a solo seat Paul. J

    Cover boy?

Why? A little snow isn't going to stop me. When I took that picture, it was about 5-10 degrees below freezing. With the 'stich and a pair of electric gloves, I'm good to go. Just have to be careful with the To be honest, it is *quite* a bit colder in Minneapolis than it is here. I have it easy. And if I don't have it easy, at least I have an ointment.
  12. First assumption is that you are indicating the starter is not engaging. Second assumption is that the neutral light is/was working. The starter should work with the sidestand down or up- it only cuts out ignition when the bike is in gear and the clutch is let out. The clutch switch has to be activated every time for the starter to work, so I would suspect that or the relays. Since you 'went through the excercise a couple of times', that might have worked a bit of dirt or something out of the clutch switch. Someone on this list posted a story about getting a bug caught in the switch and that messed it up. Otherwise....just short the clutch switch to eliminate it as a potential problem?

    Paint jobs

Ben, just go for the stick-on flames. For real bling, get the ones with sparklies in them.
  15. Valves. Just check them. Talk to Al or somebody about head modifications and how much difference they make.

    Helmets?

I ride with a flip-up nolan- I have a hard enough time disengaging the lock. It's hard to see how it could flip up unintentionally. I guess in a freak accident, almost anything is possible.... The nolan is loud, though. I have to wear earplugs. Arai just doesn't fit my head, unfortunately. Fits my wife, though, so she wears one.
  17. just tryin' to be helpful...
  18. I totally agree- that looks like a nice solution, and you've obviously thought about the advantages and limitations of PVC. If you're really concerned, you can put in a safety valve in-line. I put myself through college as a plumber, so soldering copper and threading iron is no big deal to me- kind of entertaining really. But metal is a lot more expensinve, so when I get a nice shop- who knows what I'll do. Right now I have a rubber hose laying on the floor- how's that for elegant? Hmmm, where's that thread on 'rednecks'?

    Communication Systems

Interesting- thanks for asking this caffreydog and thanks for the responses. My wife is starting to make noise about getting a bike-to-bike intercom system. (No jokes, ok?) I would like to know which ones work. I'm not convinced we need one as our current methods seem to work. We wave arms at each other a lot- kind of like smoke signals. I think it fits the spirit of the Marque.
  20. TPS = throttle position sensor Basically, it's a potentiostat (a volume control) that tells the FI how far open the throttle is, so the FI can determine how much gas to squirt in. Setting the TPS is analagous to setting the volume on a stereo, but you measure voltage instead of decibels. The TPS itself is just a plate screwed to the top of one of the throttle bodies. It's on the R/H side, has 'Marelli' stamed on top and has three wires coming out of if. FI tune-up procedures are scattered here and there: For the Tonti frames see here. There are a few differences though- On spine frames, the TPS is on the R/H side. Here's a thread that has lot's of info in it (too much maybe?). It's aimed to PCIII owners, but it's applicable to standard TPS adjustments. Basically- measure voltage across two of the three wires (the outer wires, I think) with the bike on, but not running. You'll have to pull the rubber boot back to get to the connector and I use a small gauge copper wire to stuff into the connector without ever disconnecting it. It should read in the 5-575 mV range (make a note). Gently loosen the two top star bolts on the TPS and slowly twist it one way then the other- the 500 mV reading will change up and down. Rotate the TPS so it's about 10 mV higher than it was when you started, tighten the star nuts and take the bike for a ride. Since this is a rough dial-in, don't bother with disconnecting the linkage et. al. Also, if you have a twinmax or similar carb balancer, you can balance the TB's with the white knob between the two TBs (bike running, of course). If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, any shop should be able to set it in a few minutes. Maybe watch them, so you can do it yourself later. Hope that helps. Jason
  21. You can do some tweaking of the computer, but it's a lot easier (read: cheaper) to just fool it. Adjust the TPS a little higher and see if that fixes your problem. J
  22. Cool- 120psi is no problem for PVC. One bit of warning though- PVC does degrade on exposure to UV light (the sun). Not quickly, but it does (like...years). Wear safety glasses, I guess, which is always good advice when working. J
  23. Oh, you're talking about motorcycle parts...my guess was going to be waay off base.
  24. PVC is rated for 600psi???? I thought you needed iron pipe for that.
