  1. It's the large overvoltages that kill the ECU- 'spikes'. As long as you don't drag the charger leads over the battery and arc it out, then you should be ok. Same with jumping the bike (and that's how the ECU's were ususally blown). Putting one of these on your bike is completely analagous to putting a surge protector on your computer. Re: The charging system- When just running the bike, it should definitely not be putting out lots of hash, spikes or elsewise. Re: fuses- yes they are very slow. An electrical spike can last a few thousanth's of a second (or less) and that's plenty to damage sensitive equipment. A fuse takes hundreds of thousanth's of a second to blow. A transil diode takes a few millionths of second to kick in- much faster- thus saving critical stuff downfield. You can put a protective circuit in you bike- won't hurt it a bit. Or you can leave it out and trust the engineers to have taken care of it. All that said, I've thought about making one for my bike- just for fun really. Let me look into the costs and maybe we can do a group buy. As always, my advice is worth what you paid for it.
  2. Yeah baby, time to get Busy!! /ques pr0n music
  3. Beautiful. We'll have to get together at St. Alphono's for pancake breakfast.
  4. Everything old is new again. Sorry about the crappy image-this three cylinder is in the background of a picture I took at the Guzzi museum. The engine is based on the 'small block' motors.
  5. That sounds like a reasonable hypothesis. Two alternatives are materials defects (has anyone looked into that?) and uneven loading. The latter is unlikely I would think. Jason
  6. I can send you some extra cat food that's in my pantry.....
  7. All right, gentlemen-put it back in your pants and zip up. Thanks, Jason
  8. Keep on Ben- I've gotten scooped a couple times as well. J
  9. That didn't last very long. Guess I'll have to be more creative next time. Good call, Tim! Jaap, only one made for Flash Gordon, but it was quickly stolen and subsequently wrecked by a drunken Mongo.
  10. A prototype bike, but one that is unusual enough that it should make a fair game. This particular model was front-wheel drive.
  11. Huh, it's an interesting history- another Italian bike company started by a fellow interested in aviation. http://digilander.libero.it/parsecweb/
  12. A Caproni Trento? NSU motor, built from '53-'59. looks too small to be the Capriolo 75. Caproni and Capriolo look to be the same manufacturer. Jason
  13. It should be fine, Al- I have about that much play (fore/aft) on the engine I am perpetually rebuilding. Once the pistons/sleeves go on, it will be held fixed. Jason
  14. Give the man a donut..er...point. Good going, TX!
  15. You are so close you can taste it.
  16. And of course, you can tell nothing from that, so here's a couple of engine details.
  17. OK, I need the brand and designer. Year if you can get it, but it was a one-year bike.
  18. Gotta keep tryin' I've got one I'll post this evening, but it may go quickly. J
