  1. Hi Al, Are those Mike Rich pistons coated on the skirts? Thanks for posting the pictures! J And thanks Jaap for changing the file-storage size!
  2. Just being facetious. J
  3. Hi Al, I had a similar problem earlier on. Click on your login name in the upper left of the screen (logged in as jrt), then at the bottom of the next page, click on 'Edit Your Profile'. This takes you to your control panel, under Options you can "manage your attachements". You might be full up. (Others may want to know where it is also- it took me awhile to find the attachement manager the first time). J
  4. This was the first piece of advice the mechanic gave me when I bought my first Guzzi in '82. J
  5. Tim, The newer gel batteries require a higher overvoltage to charge. I'm not sure the older tricklechargers work so well on the gel-style battery. But I'm not sure- won't hurt it I suppose. I've been thinking it's about time for my original battery to go south too. Probably by spring, but so far, so good (almost 4 years) j

    Roaddyno

The words are all right, just keep practicing the drawl. J
  7. So, I was riding and thinking last night and came up with a theory. The assumption: All the exploding clutches are Scura's from a reasonably similar manufacture time. The hypothesis: Could it be that the engines were not well balanced, and vibrations transmitted to the clutch stressed the aluminum to the breaking point? The RAM clutches are balanced from the factory. The Guzzi engines are not necessarily, though they tend to be close. Anyone with an explosive clutch care to comment? Jason
  8. Dan, you're doing it and learning. Good on ya' Don't sell yourself short.
  9. I'll take 'em if you still got them- I'll send you a pm. I'm still playing around with footpeg setups- trying to find something that works for me. J

    E Vest Question

It does get a bit chilly here, but we don't have near the snow that the NE has. FWIW, I have a set of e-gloves, but no vest. I have an aerostich suit that is quite effective for wind, and I wear a warm fuzzy pullover underneath. Mmmmm, warm fuzzy That seems to do it for me. Maybe I just don't know any better. J
  11. My guess is somewhere in the 4 hour range. That's just a guess though. In MY shop, it'd be 8+ hours over the course of several days with a small amount of beer involved. J
  12. good point. J
  13. If the new 6 speed transmission is like the old 5 speed, then the leak is probably through the clutch pushrod seals, not the front seal. That's not a big deal. Use thicker oil. If it really is a front main seal leak, then yes it will eventually get worse, but honestly, it's pretty easy to drop the transmission and fix it. Also, it occurs to me...do a search on poster 'callison' regarding a cracked transmission casing. Doubtful that this is the problem, but it's worth looking at. Jason
  14. True, true. I was surprised that rear main seal leaked. I've never had that happen before. It's also always good advice to check the simple stuff, like hoses, first. Good call, Pete. J
  15. Pete, I generally agree with you but I did have a rear main leak on my bike- fixed under warranty and I got a new clutch out of it. It happened early on though- once a rear seal sets in, then you are absolutely right- they rarely blow. I would suspect one of the rubber tubes that carries oil or oil vapor around before anything in the motor. For sealing the two open holes in the back, I use high stress silicon around the threads and an aluminum crush washer. Seems to seal it right up. Cheers, Jason
  16. Hi Pete, I printed a pdf document from it- you want that? Where do you want me to send it? One of the pictures got chopped in two, but that's the worst that happened. It's not really the chicken that confuses me, but I'm having a helluva time fitting the box back on the front forks... J
  17. I have a Gustaffson 4" over screen for my bike. I mounted it up, ran it for a couple of days and then took it back off. Didn't work well for me at all- It rattled more (but I didn't put the bead around the edge), the wind was all wrong, and I ended up with even more weight on my wrists- which I did not want. At the time, I had the stock clip-ons on the bike. I'm a bit more upright in position now, so it might be a better fit, but frankly, I like the lower fairing. If anyone wants to buy the taller screen, it's for sale cheap. BTW- the design is not like the picture you have with the flip up at the end. The one I have is just overall taller- a bigger bubble. Cheers, Jason
  18. You guys have theme music yet? J
  19. Wow. 63 words and it said absolutely nothing. F**king amazing. Keep after 'em KB. Several hundred miles and the RAM clutch in my Eldorado ('74 850 GT) is just fine. Quiet. Works. J
  20. Which you can then write your own custom map (injection and timing) for it, right?
  21. Yeah, that is nice looking. I like the mini turn signals. BTW, the link works for me. J
  22. Start here. It's not hard to do, but if you want higher bars or more pull back, then you'll need new brake and clutch lines (MPH cycles sells 'em). Jason
  23. leave my wife out of this.
  24. Well, ok. That makes sense. I didn't look closely at the back side...or take a picture of it, so I honestly don't remember how many bolts went where along with locating dowels, etc. Thanks for the info, John. Jason
