Just my opinion, but I would call the dealer up and tell him NOT TO TOUCH MY F#@$KING BIKE. Get it the heck out of there now, before they destroy something else. I have zero confidence they could effect any work competently. Then send them the bill for the parts.

Matt, I'm assuming you took the plate off and visually inspected the spring? Did you look at the boss that the spring rides on? Perhaps it has some wear, allowing the spring to run 'off center'? I'm just throwing out guesses here-

HI Ben I'll echo everyone else's sentiments- glad you are ok. Don't sweat the bike too much- it's just a possession, a piece of machinery. You'll get another soon enough. Have you considered a dual sport like a DR650 or KLR650? They are great bikes for tall folks, but probably too slow for you. Or buy another V11. They are way undervalued right now. Or a Loopframe. You said you liked to tinker, right? I love my Eldo. It's no sportbike, but I never have an urge to drive it like one. Edit: What about a BMW F800 GS or S?

The problem that might come up is one of fairness. How do sponsoring contributors (haven't seen mph mentioned) vs non sponsors fair? So, I'm not sure a FAQ is the correct forum, but someone might start a good dealers thread?

Actually, I looked in the faq section after reading your last reply, Skeeve. Heck, I didn't see a 'Good Dealers' thread....Am I just missing it? Anyhow, + 1 for the ones mentioned, and also check out Ned's Auto and Cycle in Riverside, IA. Jim is a great person to deal with.

This is a REALLY good point. Carl Allison (among others) had a minor crash on his V11 and found that the frame can easily bend or crack. Carl documented everything very well. That's steel, so it should be easy to weld. PITA to get all the plastic out of the way, though. I just checked rebootguzzispares.com and they have a '06 sport, so if all else fails, you won't have to buy new. I've been drinking Germain Robin Alambic Brandy recently (just as something different than single malt). Worth a try- it's good stuff. Costs about as much as single malt. Eases the pain just as well.

I have a ventura rack and it will hold 20 pounds easy. It's solid. And ugly. Here's a picture with the rack off, so you can see the 'horns' that stick up. You can buy a variety of rack sizes and styles, so that's a plus. But...it's ugly. I don't seem to have a picture of the rack mounted on the bike.

I don't know if I totally agree with the extra internal plate rational. I have an '01 that seems to shift just fine and I use plain ol' synthetic oil with a bit of moly added. Statistics of small numbers I guess. Maybe I have a 'good one' or maybe something else. There could be some variance on the spring locator or spring diameter. We'll probably never know. On a related note- I really like traditional (5speed) Guzzi transmissions. I have hell of miles on them and, while slow shifting, have always done me right. I like the shimming document as well; thanks for that link. I have one box that was shimmed by Zydeco Racing (Mike Tiberio) and he does a Damn Fine Job. For the newer 6 speed- suggestions here have all been good- grease moving surfaces, change clutch oil, change transmission oil. Not a lot else to it. If you haven't taken the plate off, you should just to inspect the parts and look for wear. Have you noticed any swarf on the magnet in the drain plug?

Thanks Raz, Yes, it's just a friction cover- use a knife, but careful not to scratch the chrome (ish stuff).

You have to remove the top yoke of the triple tree. I did it 6-7 years ago, so I am sketchy on the details, but.... Remove..or drop the clipons (there's a bolt underneath as well as the clamp bolts) Loosen up the dash and the keyswitch (don't remember what I did but it was straight forward) Loosen the top triple clamp and lift up. You might need to help it with a rubber mallet. The steering head bearings nuts are just castle nuts, aren't they?

Wasn't there someone looking for stucchi crossover recently? Sorry to see that done to your bike, Jon. I hope you are ok.

I know it has been done, but I think there are some issues with fit- like you might need to cut the fairing down some in order to install it. Good luck and post pictures when it's done. I like the MK 1 fairing.

I'll show my particular bias- an R90S fairing or equivalent.

grease or neversieze should be ok. Um, be careful when you try to dissasemble the cush drive. The bolts (they are hex bolts, right?) are very, very soft. They also have threadlock on them, so heat them up if you can. Oh, and the vents look like little square-profile mushroom caps. Easy to spot, as Docc points out.
