  1. Mine was a sport and it broke. Dealer will replace it under warranty. He said he had seen a few as well. Cheers, Jason
  2. Hey, I don't hold it against you Ray. Well, I won't if you send me a headlight Seriously- I have no idea how this thing broke, unless it was metal fatigue- I'm talking about the U-shaped bit inside the headlight. dlaing is calling it a guard thing-a-mah-jig. Same piece. Mine's obviously been broke for awhile, because the silvering on the reflective backside of the housing is scraped off. Time to break out the pliars. I always had high esteem for Bosch parts. My faith is shattered... Cheers, Jason
  3. Hey, somebody jinxed me! I read this thread, then went home and looked at my headlight. The reflector is busted off. Criminey. I wonder how common this is? Cheers, Jason
  4. No offense taken, Carl. I'm sure there's a more aesthetic routing, but that would require a new brake line (ka-ching$). I don't want to do that quite yet. Besides, it's gonna be hidden underneath the fairing for the most part. Went for a short ride yesterday- it was on again, off again snowing, but dammit, I wanted to ride . The bike handled ok- the front end seemed much lighter than I remember it. It was still stable, but it sure seemed to turn easy. Of course, the roads were damp and very cold, and I didn't check tire pressure (I'm sure it's low in this cold). And, of course, there's less weight on it. Cheers, Jason
  5. No- I reused the stock lines, but it's close. The clutch actually has more freeplay than the brake line. I did bend the banjo fitting on the brakeline and reroute it behind the tripleclamp. It's exactly like the picture on this websites' gallery of the 'cafe' sport. Cheers, Jason Woo hoo! I just graduated to forum-a-holic. my name is jason, and I'm a motorcycle addict...
  6. Finally got a picture of the bike on my website. When it quits freaking snowing, I'll take a couple of shots outside in better light. http://plasterbath.chem.uiowa.edu/triplecl...clamp/bars.html click on the thumbnail, bottom left. Oh, and the R90s fairing will go back on just by cutting down my original mounts. Couldn't have asked for an easier setup. cheers, Jason

    Dirty calipers

What about a solution of bicarbonate (Arm&Hammer baking soda) and and bon-ami? Toothpaste is mostly bicarb and abrasives anyhow. Related Q- where does one buy S 100 cycle cleaner in the states? bike shops? I don't really keep my bikes all that clean, but I like to know that I could... Cheers, Jason

    mirrors..

Hey, I just ordered a CRG mirror (can't afford two of 'em yet). I was looking at your picture, and I hadn't realized they were electric powered mirrors! Cheers, Jason
  9. Well that's fine, but how do you really feel about it?
  10. Me? Read the FAQ?!?! I'm the guy who takes it apart first, then RTFM! Thanks for the pointer, Al. Your, uh, rear end looks great. Cheers, Jason
  11. Sweeet. That's a nice job! Cheers, Jason
  12. Hey Al, You just wizzed something by- What do you think of the tail-light eliminator? Is it the one from Evoluzione? When I was in CA last month, I really wanted to stop by and look at it, but I ran out of time. What part of the underside of the fender is missing? Any of it? I've got the techno bags, and I rather like them- a six-pack just fits in 'em. Cheers, Jason

    the rack

Ventura also makes a rack that will fit. I have one on my bike. to be frank, though, I think the Agostini racks look better. The Ventura is stout. I'll give it that. Cheers, Jason
  14. I sourced the bar clamp from my local guzzi dealer It's a (used) stock bar clamps from a V11EV. It bolts right on when you've drilled the holes. I've got bars on the bike now, but its too cold to ride-I'll get pics and all that up next week or two (sorry- been busy). I don't know how easy it's going to be to get to the ignition switch with the facia on this style clamp, but I'll find out. One thing to consider with this bike is that the spacing between bar clamps is about 5.75 inches or 146 mm, so you need a bar with a center distance of 6 inches or 152 mm. The bars I got were from speigler (www.spieglerusa.com/ ) for, I think $70. Well made bar. Kind of pricey, but it fits. I bought the shortest bar (Handlebar, aluminum Ø22x18, 12cm/4.75",14cm/5.5",76cm/30", rise/pullback/width, silver 70-70229-11). I have not replaced any hydraulic lines or electrical connections, but I will have to if I use any longer of a bar. The stock lines are just barely long enough. I did have to bend the brake banjo connector at the master cylinder (and route the line behind the bar, like this photo- http://www.v11lemans.com/html/gallery/jpeg_51.htm). Cheers, Jason
  15. I was looking at the motoguzzi-us site, and noticed that they offer 'adjustable argal' footpegs. They certainly look nicer than the stock, but are they really adjustable? Anyone out there have a set or have seen a set? Cheers, Jason
  16. Ha ha! Only if 2000 miles qualifies as close. No, I'm in eastern Iowa nowadays. Did my graduate work at Berkeley, though. I'll have the bars installed within about two weeks (I'm travelling next week), and will answer your questions on brake/clutch lines. Documented with pictures of course. Cheers, Jason
  17. I'm among those who want to raise the handlebars to a more comfortable riding position. I have a V11 Sport (as opposed to a Le Mans), so I'm skeptical about using new clip-ons, and I wanted something with the flexibility to change and not cost $300 every time. So, bars it is. Off with the clip-ons, off with top triple clamp and on to the machine shop. Drilled holes through the bosses (Thanks Guzzi!) attached a clamp from a V11EV, and off to shop for bars. There are precious few bars out there with the required center length (5 3/4" min). Most are about 4". I finally tracked down a place in Ohio that sells LSL bars that should fit. I've ordered the silver, aluminum 'superbike, flat' bars (50mm rise, 140 mm pullback) and I'll try those first. If they are too short, I'll move up to the 'superbike' (70 mm rise) bars. I'll let ya'll know how it turns out- maybe I'll have to get with Al and we can put it in the FAQ. websites: my triple clamp- http://plasterbath.chem.uiowa.edu/triplecl...clamp/bars.html speigler brakes http://www.spieglerusa.com/ Cheers, Jason
  18. No, your impression is right. It gets brighter on mine too. Does it on my wifes' bike (Jackal) as well. I always thought it was hooked up to a potentiometer in the tank, but honestly- I don't know. I'm kind of curious to know how many gallons are left in the tank also. Not curious enough to find out myself, but still... J

    Side panniers for V11

I hope your passenger has a short foot! Seriously- that will look real nice. Are the BMW panniers symmetric or asymmetric? I recall riding on an R1100 and the bags were very different sizes. Cheers, Jason
  20. What about Centauro bars/risers? I don't know the height, but I saw that someone had offered theirs on this board. I'm going to the motorcycle junkyard tomorrow morning. I'll scope out some different risers/bars to see what was available last 5 years. The saga continues, Jason
  21. It's pretty similar (or will be). I'm using the clamps from a V11EV. I'll take a picture.... here's the pictures: http://plasterbath.chem.uiowa.edu/triplecl...clamp/bars.html Cheers, Jason
  22. Hmmm, I just drilled out my upper triple clamp yesterday, and now I'm putting on bar clamps. I've heard the Centauro bars work well, but I'm gonna try some supersport bars first, since I bought the bar-clamp. Woo Hoo! Cheers, Jason
  23. I can't help you specifically with the Ohlins, but my V11 sport does pretty good on back roads. Mine seems stiff, if anything. Uh, the bike, that is. Browse over to guzzitech: http://www.guzzitech.com/ and scroll down to 'suspension tips'. Ed Milich has written up a nice how-to article. cheers, Jason
  24. Hi J.R. Thanks for the note. Good call on the chome bars- I don't think I want that either. I took my upper triple clamp off this morning (cold cold cold cold cold...) and it's in my office now. I'll take it down to our machinist to drill the holes and such. I hadn't realized that the ignition switch is PERMANTLY INSTALLED! Well, held on with lead or aluminum anyway. Looks like it will be kind of a pain to put the key in once the clamp is installed. I was thinking I might make a run to a bike junkyard and buy 2 or 3 used bar sets to get the dimensions correct, then order some that look cool. However, that's probably way beyond my ability as far as time goes... Oh, also, did you have to shave any of the ridge at the front of the triple clamp in order to fit the bar-clamps? Cheers, Jason
  25. Hi J.R. How much up and how much back are the bars that are going on there? I just acquired a California-style bar clamp, and was going to install it. I don't have bars yet, though. Just eyeballing it, I would guess 1-2" up and 2" back. Over-optimistic? Cheers, Jason
