    Some of the contributing causes to a painful butt are 1)maintaining pressure points for extended times 2)moisture 3)chafing 1) is the most common and can be somewhat controlled by choosing clothes that DON'T HAVE a seam across your butt. Get a seat, or ROJO, or sheepskin (my fav) that spread pressure out. Standard underwear and bluejeans are the worst in my opinion- they're always developing seams and ridges where I sit. 2) and 3) are closely related. If you get wet, the hair in your...sensitive areas...can feel like sandpaper. Again, a ROJO or sheepskin will allow ventilation. Pants that breath help out. Zip open the crotch area in your riding suit for a free blowjob Baby powder- or any talcum powder, really helps to absorb moisture and add some dry lubricant to the area. I just bought some "monkey butt powder" to test it out- it's talcum and calamine. Baby powder does ok for me, I'll see if this stuff is any better. FWIW, the folks at MCN seemed to like it. Frequent stops to stretch help also, and like sports, long trips are something you just have to practice at to develop the stamina. Oh- and don't forget aspirin! That helps the joint pains. I have a RM seat, a sheepskin and I wear trousers, rather than bluejeans on long rides. It definitely helps. The bicycle shorts are pretty nice also, but I only use them on 10+ hour days.

    While the Griso doesn't do much for me visually, I do like it simply for the fact that makes you notice it. That's cool.
  4. Also- didn't Carl Allison have the master cylinder sieze up on him? Water intrusion through the boot or some such cause. Might want to do a search on that.
  5. lurching/coughing at lower revs suggests that it may be running lean (although out of balance TB's will cause similar results).   7. The rear brake line sits pretty close to the exhaust pipe. If the line (and fluid) heats up from that source, then it can put some pressure on the rear brake. The rear brake drags, creates frictional heat, and you get more braking. Or, if there is dirt and other crap in the rear brake caliper- and I guarantee there is- then the brake can drag and heat up. Look at the routing of the brake line and make sure it is very clear of the exhaust. Also, clean out the caliper (even removing it from the perch). The other adjustment I made was at the pedal itself- I make sure there is a little 'flop' up and down in the pedal.

  10. You might not need a bigger magnet- I also used the Rat Shack rare earths. The thing is- those magnets are highly directional. You need to put them on 'edge' so the flat part is oriented at the pickup. There is very little magnetic field along the cylinder- only out from the ends. The pickup needs to be just a centimeter or so away from the disk surface. The closer, the better. If that still doesn't work, I'm going to order some magnets and other stuff from McMaster-Carr here in a couple of weeks. Let me know and I'll order an extra Samarium/Cobalt magnet. That will save you $$ in shipping, anyhow.

    Rebuild blues

    I went to a Guzzi rally this weekend (Iowa Rally) and there were two very nice 500's there. One was a pristine restoration of a roughy '50s model (just perfect in every way) and another was a '33 500. Exposed valve springs and everything. Ran good too- pop pop pop. Neato.

  15. Mike- definitely get a sigma. It goes up to 150+ mph. Tomorrow, I'll look to see if I have any pictures, but basically I put a rare-earth magnet inside one of the round holes on the brake rotor (JB Weld keeps it there) and mounted the pickup just inside the fender.
  16. I agree- there are no 'must have' mods. I didn't see a picture of your helmet, but you should already know that protective gear is money well spent. Ride the heck out of it a bit and make modifications that suite your riding style. At 3K miles, it isn't broken in enough to worry about major mods yet. Congrats! I'm glad this is finally going to come through for you (knock wood).

    Well, I THINK it was a fine race. Freakin' Fox-SpeedChannel-Epithet-Curse-Tarnation kept cutting out to commercial every 2.5 minutes. Damn that was the WORST coverage of an otherwise exciting race. From what I could see- it looked like some of the major players were unfamiliar with the track- lots of sketchy cornering out there. The track itself looked like it had a very different character from the European races.

    That's interesting, because most reviewers suggested that the Breva's power is delivered at higher revs than "before". Perhaps "before" refers to the Cali's.
