  1. And of course I took pictures last night, but forgot to bring my camera in. Edge, I thought you said this would help with my memory.... /still no trouble with his pinion //knows it's only a matter of time

    First Service???

Hmmm, I hope this is a good dealer. Yes, they should set the valves- preferably to Euro specs. They should set and synch the throttle bodies as well. On the newer engines, a head re-torque is not necessary. Some folks still do it, some don't. On the older bikes, (round fins) it was recommended.

Maybe I should post this in the other band's thread....but...speaking of music Went to a show last night by Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite boys. Rockabilly dance and swing. Day-um. Two points to make about it- 1) That's one kind of music that the ladies like. Especially the tatoo'd, cowboy boot-and-prairie-skirt-wearing punk rock girls. Good dancing and lot's of fun. dlaing- you're just going to the wrong shows- 2) Big Sandy puts on a hell of a show, old fashioned. No gimmicks, just 3-3 1/2 hours of high intensity (and too loud) music. All for 10 bucks, and 2 dollar beers. Highly recommended. J
  4. Ninety six dollars? "F" that. sputter... foam... drool.... a hose clamp is like 9.6 cents.
  5. I'll try to take a picture tonight and post it tomorrow (in the other thread).

    That explains a lot.
  7. Stephan- It sounds like your # is in the range- try presenting the recall notice to your dealer (be polite) and request that he order the necessary parts. When or if they refuse, contact MG of Sweden, and the Swedish Dept. of Transportation. Record the date and a summary of every converstation regarding this. Andrew- I haven't heard of any gearboxes outside the range detonating like yours. Like, Stephan- contact MG of Australia and maybe you can wing the parts out of them?
  8. Ventura also makes a rack for the V11. It's ugly, but very functional and it comes off. J
  9. But the forks are the same length, aren't they? I imagine if you had enough force to bend the axle, the wheel is doomed as are the forks. Bail as fast as you can BTW, pressure and volume are a direct inverse relationship until you get to very high pressure. I estimated a volume of 22.4 liters (1 L is more realistic, so just divide by 22.4) and 1 mole of gas. I circled the area corresponding to an estimated change in volume of the shock. You can see the pressure doesn't change significantly. And I apologise to the Europeans for using atm.

Too much and and is my guess.

dammit dammit dammit, I thought she was backfiring a bit too much. I thought it just a case of gas.

Guzzichondria? Maybe, but have you adjusted the phenstir rod?
  13. It can happen if either the oil pickup runs out of oil (a quick stop is a good candidate for this) or if the rpms drop too low. If the rpms drop down to ~700, the oil pressure will drop below the pressure indicator level. Edit: I was looking for a graph of pressure vs. rpm but I just can't find it. Therefore, take the 700rpm number with a grain of salt. And it's a problem if the light stays off more than a second or so. If that's the case- seriously look into why. There are rare, but documented cases of oil-pump failure.
  14. And I was expecting you to be in the Railroad business. I had a 350 scrambler as well. It was my first 'big' bike and man, was it a piece of crap. Ok, that was partly my fault.... Good mileage on the EV- drive over to the Iowa Rally if you get a chance. J

    Cush Drive

Earlier Guzzi's didn't have a cush drive either (the Ambo/Eldo/850GT/T/series...T3 Drilling out the cush drive is a trick from the '70s to make it an even cushier drive. I doubt that it makes much difference one way or another on a light 'race' bike, but it might work ok for a sidecar or something.
  16. ok, now I have to go look

A little lube will help reduce abrasion of either the aluminum or the rubber as well as keep the rubber from drying out as quickly.
  18. Nice shot, but you need to work on your follow-through.
  19. Jumps all over the place? That's weird. I assume the throttle action is smooth when the bike is not running? Check the intake rubber manifolds for leaks also- maybe you're just running heck of lean? Draining the tank will only get you so far if you really did have bad gas or water in the gas. One thing you might try [Warning- this can be REALLY DANGEROUS- GAS IS FLAMMABLE] is disconnect the fuel return line and route it into a catch basin/container. Cycle the fuel pump by turning the switch on/off (pump runs for ~3sec). Empty the tank, add some more gas, empty it again and try to flush out the fuel filter and pump. A bit of methanol will help solubilize any water. I have no idea if that's good advice, or just advice. A real mechanic could give you a better idea if this would work.
  20. http://www.mgcycle.com/externals.html #9 works great, finger tight, never burns me, and let's me fret about engine temperature as a bonus. Mine came smooth, so I lightly roughed it with sandpaper (improves oil retention) and scored high/low marks on it.
  21. Very impressive riding. Too bad about the Spaniard, but that's competition I suppose. I maintain that Rossi is part human...part alien.
  22. Water in gas? Can you drain the tank, and refill with fresh gas?
  23. And Mike's Jackal originally came from my wife. Thus, the great circle is complete....
  24. Hi Guys, The 'Edge Guard' (I love that name!) fits a 2001 V11 Sport with no issues. Install is quick and easy. J
  25. Tasty!
