  1. [quote name="JRD" post="222954" timestamp="1500046489 I would concentrate more on suspension and tire upgrades. You can spend more money there than what you paid for the bike. That and chambers are atleast $600 a set!
  2. That Monza is sweet!
  3. Sell it and buy a couple Ducatis. I love v11s but not as a track bike....
  4. In WI it is real easy to get "Recreation fuel" which is 91 octane no ethanol. So honestly I never tried. Plus I doubt I'll ever travel too far with this bike, it's more of a quick 20-100 mile runner.
  5. I once crashed my v11 and scraped off the insulation on the plug cap. I rode it around like this for awhile as I waited for parts. Anyway I was out for a spin and she had a minor stumble so I reached down to check the caps and forgot about the lack of insulation, that woke me up. Also while doing a final check on the R5's timing I somehow found the positive while touching ground, while the points opened. I feel like I've been initiated! Unfortunately I never did get to initiate my little brother. Smoky, loud, fast things (sort of) are not his thing. This little bike is really a lot of fun. I just can't help but feel like a juvenile delinquent circa 1970 something. I think I've got her pretty well sorted. Timing is good I went through the carbs and played with the jets.... a lot. Went through the very simple electrics. A little cleaning a little buffing. She's running good not making too many strange noises. It's at the point now where I need to decide what direction to take it. To me the "Cafe Racer" thing is played out a bit. I love em but I dont think I've got the $ to do a proper respectable job. Then there is a restoration. I love to see cherry old bikes but then I can't help but think, I wouldn't ever have the self control to not flog that thing every chance I had! Plus I just don't have the patience for detail, worse yet I seem to have the eye because I notice it all. Then there is the daily "patina queen" thing which she already has going and is sort of fitting for 70's 2t. But it seems so effortless. My last idea and probably my favorite is a period hop-up. I.e. period expansion chambers, period suspension mods and budget willing period wheels etc. For sure I will be upgrading suspension. I like the idea of minor tuning with chambers and possibly mild porting. The thing is she runs good now and it'd never be as fast as a reed valve RD350 (not that absolute speed is my goal but I digress...). You guys are a wise bunch what are your past experiences with old bikes? Regrets? Thoughts?
  6. How's she run with those pods?
  7. Plus the clutch doesn't disengage the transmission 100% there will still be a lot of resistance especially first couple gears. Like Scud says remove plugs.
  8. How does the preselector work? Can you go through the gears on the bench? How is the Rube Goldberg shift mechanism, tight? Loose? Was/is the action free top to bottom? If all is good there, take a look at the transmission itself.
  9. Try calling some seal specialists. Even a custom job cost could be divided by the v11 community. https://www.aceseal.com/ethylene-propylene-o-rings-gaskets-seals http://www.allsealsinc.com/oilseals.html Worth a shot at this point...
  10. I've got a battle tested Sachs shock (crack free) if you want. Sachs for Sachs I know, but if you want send me a pm.
  11. I battled the same thing recently.
  12. I don't have experience with an exhaust leak like that but I would think near the head like yours would be pretty bad as far as running goes.
  13. On the yammie I just got the fueling sorted. It didn't really like the pods that were on it when I bought it. First I had to verify the case wasn't leaking. About a million other little 1-4 hour jobs, head gaskets, chains, replace original tires, sort minor electric issues and replace every other gasket and seal I can. One thing I've never done is setting the timing on a 2t, super simple but super touchy. That took me atleast 4hrs. including fabbing up a holder for the TDC dial gauge. So now the fueling is 95% sorted, the clutch is slipping real bad. Debating weather to scrub up the alleged low mileage but old friction discs or go with new less than consistent aftermarket discs. On it goes, when running it's a fun ying to the v11s yang!
  14. Anybody going? It's only about 15mins from my house I'll for sure be there atleast one day of not two. Really a cool meet up. Last year was my first year and easily the most Guzzi's I'd ever seen in one place. Several over 100k miles two over 200k and atleast one over 300k! Good people. http://wmgr.org/
  15. Ahem, 91hp thank you very much....jk. Had an above average typical Sunday ride today. One really close call with a mama and her fawn at about 60. All parties are unscathed. Been working on my old Yammie too much and giving up wrenching over riding opportunities I have to stop doing that!
  16. Awesome! Good to see the Scura back in action already.
  17. What's the history of the slave cylinder?
  18. Sounds awesome!
  19. You guys are scaring me. My spring is about 1500 miles old... New style, barely rides on the arm right at the 90.
  20. Could be a few things: fuel filter, clogged or blocked gas tank vent, wire connection at pump, ignition switch could be dirty or vapor lock if it's hot out. Check those first would be my knee jerk reaction.
  21. Nice! How about some pics?
  22. IMO it's a motorcyclist's bike. Sounds like you fit the bill. Get one, you'll like it! Welcome!
  23. I dig the brown, some who have done black and plain polish and clear. Not sure if they are magnesium or aluminum...
  24. Not a good start to a new model... Definitely experienced vapor lock in FL.
  25. It's not working for me. Nice job though Dave!
