How's the feel of the new clutch btw? I know you've been chasing your tail a bit with the lemans. Not sure if you've got a proper ride on the new clutch or not. I think in the next winter or two I might be in for that job...
-
Gotta agree with Scud the Nero is the best looking of the v11 Lemans .

I don't think the bulb blew those Voltage mumbers don't sound to good to me though. I think your on the right track checking/grooming connections though I think it could be a dying reg. charging should max out at around 14.2v at 3500 rpm I believe. Probably someone more learned than I will chime in. The main fuse is the 30a in the fuse block. They get pretty hot and sometimes melt making the connection bad. Some replace it with a maxi-fuse, like heavy duty car audio guys use.

Excellent write up. Glad y'all and the bikes made it in mostly one piece.

2002 v11 Scura electrical issues....need help
czakky replied to plexiform's topic in Technical Topics
Check your main ground strap. It's usually behind the helmet lock on the transmission. Clean and lube/seal it with Vaseline or dielectric grease. Sounds like it might be time for a tune up. Valve check, TPS setup and TB balance. There are a few threads detailing how to do it here. Be patient and take your time it's a bit fiddly the first couple times. Even in good tune my bike takes a little bit of throttle to start when cold. -
Pretty similar to my feelings on the Pirelli Angels. Though I might try the Michelins next tire change. Either way is there a better feeling than fresh rubber?.... Motorcycle wise that is.

Late to the party here. What about some pics?... Hope your buddy is doing good.

Clutch switch? Ignition switch? Relays? Clutch switch is left side of the tank up front two bullet connectors. They need a grooming on occasion. Just cleaned my ignition switch and my bike has been starting as good as ever! Take it apart and give it a good lubing and cleaning. You can switch around the relays I believe only the front is a five pin. If they're old get some new ones (all 5 pin) Omron or GEI are the best/better choice... Also check there connections at the base. That's the easy stuff.

A little moisture was in the oil. It was probably old? Are you using the threaded or un- dipstick method? I thread and put in about 3.75qts. Anymore and she just uses it to about 3.75, that's my method.

No I never did add a gasket...
-
I basically found the same thing with my Lemans. Could not find any gasket...

Think I've licked this one. Pretty sure it was the ignition switch. I put about 500 miles on and no loss of anything.... I've got fresh and new Omrons on now just for heck of it. Pretty sure the old relays were good but now I've got even more spares. I even got my flashers to flash! (Bad blinker relay) The old girl is pulling like a freight train! Anyway thanks as always.

The way I understand it is the CO is just a very small additional amount of fuel to the mix for the whole rev range. The ECU on early (pre 02 I think) V11s have no CO/Lambda sensor, thus no reading of the fuel mixture. I know some guys have set there CO with a sniffer but with Guzzidiag I think it's much easier.

I'm with Docc on the tune up. Verifying idle too. Mine used to sneeze too but after a couple dozen tune ups she doesn't anymore...

Sweet ghezzi!....? So Elkader is next weekend about 1.5 hrs. away from me. Then the WI rally is going to be held about 15 mins from me in Aug. I think. Anybody here going to one of those?
-
I doubt that you, Stew had offended anyone here. Awesome forum! That's all I can say.
-
Reflash=creating a new map in the ecu. For "racetrack use" only of course.
-
Todd @ Guzzitech does offer reflashing as well as the PC too.
-
Yeah, it could be. I have a thread from at least a year ago where I had a "groaning" fuel pump. Worked fine but she just made a slightly ugly sound when priming. Tach needle started the "St Vitus dance" a while back too. Of course I've switched relays around and all that but no change. Maybe I've got five baddies in there. Maybe my cleaner ignition switch will help. Time will tell...
-
Ok, kill switch cleaned. No change. Relay bases cleaned and lubed. Nothing. Cleaned ignition switch and she hasn't acted up... yet. Couldn't help but notice the contacts on the ignition switch were looking pretty well receded into the base. Can't imagine they are getting worn but who knows... Either way solder joints look good and the contacts really didn't appear to be dirty but I suppose it wouldn't take much. Good read on the relay comparo Docc. I think I had read that before but must've got the relays switched around... I will probably end up ordering a set of Omrons just for piece of mind. Sheesh these bikes are picky about relays. My old 71 super beetle still has all original relays working just fine (made in Deutschland though).
-
Ok, Omron over GEI? Can I ask why? Guess I always thought I had the best relays and never gave it much thought.
-
@foto- wouldn't the bullet connectors only effect the start circuit though? @Scud- You might be onto to something as I never did replace the loose-ish factory connection from the stator to reg. A few things to look at, exactly why I ask you guys...

Only heard of Dainese. If you're thinnish the Dainese will fit well if not stay away. There leather is good and soft but my experience is it will disintegrate after one crash. Very comfortable too. Are you looking at leather or textile? My bad just reread your posts... No experience with airbag stuff.

@JB- Pretty sure my battery is good, about a year and a half old. Good point though. I will keep cleaning ground points too. Thanks @Docc- Forgot about the kill switch, I'll give that a look see. I've got all GEI relays (pyro dans) is there a better type out there that you use? I did replace the side stand switch a couple days ago. Just because I had one lying around. I'll keep plugging away, thanks guys.
