  1. Good to know guzzimoto, I knew you had worked some magic on your wife's bike but couldn't remember what it was. I do like to tinker but I just don't want to make an adjustment to the forks and not be happy with them. Kinda leaning towards sending them out.
  2. Thanks Scud. So Todd doesn't sell Penske? Why choose Penske over Hyperpro?
  3. I've been thinking about upgrading my lemans suspenders. My forks are starting to weep a little and I'm just not really thrilled about either end of suspension. Thinking about going with a Hyperpro shock and possibly sending my forks to Todd at Guzzitech or rebuilding them myself. For those of you with upgraded suspension what's your experience? Progressive or straight rate fork springs? Probably can't afford a fancy Ohlins Shock but would take any suggestions.
  4. Moving your forks up 1cm will definitely change handling characteristics. I moved mine up on my 02 about 8mm and it made a much more significant change than I would have thought. Like Scud said it steers much quicker but made steering more neutral as well. Your bike has a little different geometry though I believe. I went the naked route on my lemans and made my own brackets that I thought turned out pretty nicely. I can show you the parts I ordered if you want.
  5. Sounds like Docc was right again....
  6. After my 71' Super Beetle was deemed too dangerous for my daughter to ride in.... rightfully so. I picked up my current 86' Volvo 244, was just going to be my jalopy while I was looking for a job up here but I sort of like the damn thing. Lots of Volvos for a small poll, Scud wins the renaissance man award.
  7. Just shoveled snow out of the way to open the doors to my v11's apartment, (shed) yup still there... Just a couple more months to go.....
  8. Not since the snow this week, but I was tempted to go on the NYD ride in Milwaukee today. Ken I just feel like a wuss now...
  9. I love my 86 244! Slow reliable quirky, kinda reminds me of....
  10. Don't tell me you're still riding Ken.
  11. I recommend a light smear of "Hylomar" (really good stuff!) on both sides of the gasket. Remember that the timing chain is whipping oil at the mating surfaces. I've done the timing chest a couple times and never had a need for a rotor puller. The crank isn't tapered it just uses a woodruff key. The only trouble is keeping the crank from turning while you loosen the rotor nut. I usually lock the ring gear through the peep hole with a longish flathead screwdriver. It is a bit fiddly but can be done. It took me like six-eight hours total the first time I did it, could probably do it in three if I hurried after doing it.
  12. Looks like a helluva good time.

Sorry I'm a little late on this one. Everything installed I take it? How's she running?
  14. Take lots of pics, especially for us northerners!
  15. Sort of the polar opposite of a VFR (looks like you're a bit of a fan). Much more subjective riding than the Viffer. Anyway, Welcome!
  16. Yeah, seems like my problems stem from my regulator replacement. I've had my battery off the bike for a little more than a week and it's holding around 12.8. If I pull the main (30a) fuse and the regulator/charging circuit fuse (5a) the battery seems to hold. It's an electrosport? Or whatever regulator. Gonna try something different, reg. wise. If that makes sense.
  17. If you got this process 100% right the first time we kick you off the forum..... The only other thing I would recommend is giving a blast of carb cleaner down the TBs to make sure they are in fact completely closed. I think Docc recommended that to me and it threw my TPS off something like 30-40mv.
  18. That's not really what I do. I just use the idle screws for a stable idle, starting around .75-1 full turn out. Balance using bypass screws. Then balance above idle using synch rod (1800-3krpm). Somewhere around 521mv is usually where you end up. Don't worry about that for now though. Good stable idle, well balanced, go for a ride. If you're happy congrats! If not try again, it took me a few tries the first time once you get it you'll be happy...
  19. Also back out that RH idle screw so it's out of play completely. Also usually backing out (opening) the air bypass screws should bring the idle up, correct me if I'm wrong though.
  20. Did you take out the backlash on the synch rod?
  21. The lemans is looking sweet in her element! Are you riding side cover less?
  22. With stock exhaust I could hear my valves up to around 70mph with my helmet on. You would hear the valve clatter at idle and all the way up though. In my experience. What RPM are you hearing the rattle? If you're confident it's not pinging the front cross over and exhaust in general is where I would look.
  23. No bearing there. Are you sure you aren't pinging? If it is under heavy load (4-6th gear) and under 5k RPM more pronounced in the heat my bet is pinging. Sounds like a can of spray paint being shaken.
  24. Atleast on the 02's (solid axle) bearings are not a particularly rare size. Most bearing shops should carry them.
