Correct, opposite tread.

Someday I will be replacing the shock, unfortunately not in the near future...
-
I'm about to lever on a new rear tire on my LeMans and haven't really gone through Docc's handy checklist....yet. But before I begin I had a couple of questions for the spine frame minds. Although I had hoped to replace my rear shock with something new and scandinavian it doesn't look like that is going to happen this service so It is all about servicing my less awesome Sachs. Over large slow bumps I am hearing a good amount of squeaking coming from the rear shock and I know it is obviously a failure prone piece but, is it necessary to grease both ends of the shock? I avoid removing the airbox like a plague and even with all parts removed it still seems like a PITA.... Will greasing the swingarm bushing suffice? Cush drive, never really serviced it and after attempting to last tire removal one rounded alln-head discouraged me. Probably 38k miles on the bike. Is it really something vital? Last, I have the most minor amount of play in my reaction rod (like .1-.3mm) am I good? No bucking bronco syndrome, atleast not terrible.... Thanks for any input.

Look's about right....(?) There is an article in this month's "Motorcyclist" that is about that very same thing.
-
Sounds right to me.... The Angel's are great tires, I'm about to lever on my second set. Gonna try the 170/60's too.

Did you replace the sealing washers?

Consistent idle will depend on how well you balance with idle air by-pass screws. Getting them dead-on is important. Also make sure your bike is warmed up. The TPS commonly goes bad from staying at the same throttle opening for many miles or from turning it too hard when adjusting it. It can be tested by using an ohmmeter and verifying an even progressive rise in resistance across the two outer prongs. Good luck, re-read the procedure and start from the top. You'll have a rip snorting Goose in no time!

Sorry Slowkitty just reread your last post. Yes connecting the sync rod will affect your TPS reading. Thus the 521MV reading. Your TBs need to be open slightly to idle.
-
The two TBs are connected only by the sync rod. Follow your throttle cable it connects to a cam on top of the left TB. The idle adjust screws will affect the idle sync. Until this thing is sorted I would just back out the right so it doesn't screw you up. Another method for synching these TBs calls for backing out Idle air screws 1 turn then syncing at idle using the idle adjust screws. Then using the sync rod for "off idle" syncing. I had trouble getting a perfect idle and use the right idle stop for a more stable stop for the TBs. If that makes any sense.... How far off are your TPS readings when you release the throttle? A few MVs won't matter. Just make sure you give thosr TBs a couple of sprays with a good solvent. Hook up your volt-meter before and after to see if it made a change. Taking out the TBs is a huge PIA. Lets make sure we have this procedure done right first. Also I have an extra TPS if you suspect yours is bad.

Congrats on a beautiful new 12 year old bike.

To answer your questions 1. No, it should go back to near your settings after connecting/disconnecting. Just to be clear the .521 reading is with the connecting rod hooked up. For me .521 is a little high idling at about 1400 Rpm just yse that number as a starting point when syncing. 2. It will change the TPS readings but shouldn't throw it way off. Again don't fret the minor changes seems like these bikes are all a little different. 3. Sync the idle using the idle air afjustment screws, the connecting rod only needs adjusting when syncing above idle 2-3k rpm. 4. Not sure what question 4 is asking but if you are asking about the adjustment screws 2.5mm allen heads. Just use the left side and make sure you back the right all the way out. Make sure that your throttle butterflies are completely closed and both of your choke screws are out of play completely. You should pop open your airbox tubes and give your TBs a shot or two of carb cleaner. Then start from the beginning. How is your fuel filter? Fresh quality Petrol? Seems pretty rare anybody does this process perfect the first time. Focus on setting up the TPS first because the bike should run ok with just the correct TPS setting.

Could be, or transmission leak. My transmission leak looks similar to that. Never drips though. I would clean it up and with a good degreaser.

I think you will enjoy messing with some of the parameters. Just stay away from the cold start maps!.... Far Away!

So what do you guys suppose happens to all these original cases from 02? I only ask because i'm looking for a timing cover, not sure those were under warranty. Sorry for the threadjack!

I thought i read somewhere that the Lemans were a smaller headlight/bucket than the sports....?

I always love those Morini 3-1/2's -
Is that a head gasket? Probably too late but just out of curiousity how often do you torque the heads?

I think we're gonna need a bigger bolt. Even with my extra length on the replacement bolt for the side stand it still isn't holding. Starting to bend, I'm having to keep a 2"x2" piece of wood with me to keep a reasonable lean. Thinkin about tapping down into the hole as far as I can then sourcing appropriate bolt, if that doesnt work then my cheap ass will have to pony up the dough for a new tombstone/timing cover. Cross your fingers for me.

Not sure which part I like better the S1000 that couldn't hang with you, or the R100rs that was cooking those corners. Nice read, thanks for the write up. Still some life in these old-ish girls!

Ha! We wouldn't have to worry about those pesky curves messing up our ride down here.

Frenchies is a great place. The bay area is not bad, although its funny how I miss the winters of the nord'. I have all my parts, i might end up with the only right side kickstand v11 though. My current setup leans pretty bad. The things I do to save a buck...

Finally got the levers that fit! Also bought a homebrew gear lever from Harper's, pretty quality part. Funny story, I had just installed my new levers (thanks for the tip bikelee) and on my initial test ride I way over tightened the adjustment screw (the one that on the stock lever is blobbed with some sort of glue) at first I was ok but after a few stops and getting smoked by a Fiat I realized what I had done. It got so bad after a few pumps I could hardly move. Backed the screw out a few turns and I was good. Thought my stupidity might make a few of ya chuckle... Atleast I'm back on the road

Fantastic!! That map felt awesome. Not sure if it was a case of my bike being outta commission for so long or not but I don't remember 6th gear pulling so hard. Keep in mind my daily driver is a 71' VW Beetle so that could be a little jaded, but either way I felt like reaching for a 7th gear thinking I was in 5th not paying attention to the speedo. Crazy how much the ignition was retarded, otherwise I didn't see much that was changed. Somehow though cold start was perfect, better than it ever was. No black smoke! Thanks a ton Ken!... Like I've told a few forum members round' here if you ever find your self down here in Florida you've got some beers coming your way.

Very nice.

That's definitely a true Guzzista warranty.
