here's some more photos, Tim

8mm is just a little smaller than 3/8 in. Why would that matter?
-
Phil, I'll ask Don about the possibility of making an extra cradle if he is able to make one for me. Obviously I am not certain about the success of anything right now regarding repair of my bike but I can certainly ask. Perhaps if there is broader interest, he might see a business opportunity?
-
.....I am more concerned about getting it back together.
-
I might sell you my Greenie, after the repairs I think I could let it go for $10k (and may still lose money).
-
the shock is disconnected from the frame but I believe the swingarm is still connected.
-
went to the shop. Don has got the bike in pieces. He's pressing on to fix it. The transmission is apart and he'll bake all the fluid out of the offending piece and weld it. I also gave him the photo Docc posted of the bracket and gave him this website to review it. He thought he could fab that up too. He'd like to get the bike completed by the end of the week. I am not sure if he expects to fix the plastic by then or not. He didn't express a big concern about it. Of course it's my $$. here's the bike and here's the ground out crack If he gets it done this week, he might finish it before I get my clutch cable replaced on the EV. The good news is the weather is lousy and I won't be riding anyway. My hope is to have the bike ready for the Ozark RAT Raid in late April. I might make it to Dusty's Rally in Cedar Vale Ks the weekend after. Nothing would be better than having both bikes on the road next weekend.
-
The whole rear of the bike is hanging on a hoist. You can see the black straps in the middle top of the photo.
-
Doc, I looked at all the usual internet suspects. I can't find the cradle and would assume there are no gearboxes housings anywhere. I can probably have the cradle fab'd. I'll need to get some measurements since it's off center. I hope it's standard 1/8 in stock and flat? If it's got bends in it, I might be hosed. If it's too complex for Don, I'll check with a couple of motorcycle drag race shops here like Racing Innovations (they built all those chopper frames you see on TV) and Marion Owens. I am probably going to be into this for more than it's worth. I'd still like to be riding again in April. But I still wonder what I can sell parts for to put in a Ducati SS kitty? (This never crossed me mind a week ago but I might be forced into it if no one will touch it.) Anyway, I am just ranting on a Sunday afternoon. Monday will tell the tale when I go to the shop and talk to Don.
-
where can I get this mounting plate? just getting deeper and deeper now. But I am out of options, if my gearbox can't be fixed, the bike is toast.
-
haven't seen it. Don called me. I asked if he would sent it out but said he would try to weld it. There's a fabrication shop next door there too. I suppose he'll know more once the tranny is removed. I have no idea if it's doomed or not.
-
yep, she's cracked. Dan's going to take it out and try to weld it up. Otherwise, I might have to get a replacement.
-
Tell you what. I'll give you 50 dollars for it, and I'll even come pick it up. I'd hate get you into a mess. You'd probably go all over Indiana looking for someone to service it. Hopefully we'll get her worked out. Worst case, is that I have an offer of a transmission (thanks to this board's generous folks). And more hopeful, it won't come to that. Hope is eternal. And my favorite ride.
-
If I can't get the tranny leak fixed I might have one for ya.
-
those wheels should be gray. as in the color gray. according to the dictionary: gray A color intermediate between black and white, as of ashes or an overcast sky or V11 Sport wheels. You can't argue with the dictionary. Look it up if you don't believe me.
-
Yep. They have gray wheels like all the other red frames. Really pretty in person but hard to capture in a photo. As mentioned, Brad (Chuck's son) has dialed mine in so far as smooth torque and sweet handling.
-
Thanks for your input. After reading all this I decided to drop it off at Don's shop while I can still ride it and the bike is in one piece. Don has a guy that does plastic repair so perhaps he can fix the ABS as well. If the tranny is really busted, I'll look into the replacement. With all hope and trepidation. Then I'll get on to fixing the EV with a new clutch cable on order.
-
Appreciate your feedback. Both my side covers are cracked and the starter cover is split. epoxy from the backside hasn't helped.
-
If it's just a leak at a seam above the fluid level, I can definitely live with it, reseal it or dab some epoxy on it. A leaking crack into the structural mount is quite another. Thanks for all the info. I am armed with lots of information and accompanying anxieties. But now I have a game plan and even a replacement possibility for worst case.
-
WOW Scud. I didn't there would be any trannys around. It's great to know I might have an option if it's worst case.
-
Thanks Scud. Now I see the vent. It's a metal fitting in the top center pointing straight up. But considering the cracked case it's looking much worse then. I was thinking that if was cracked, it could just be epoxied but since it's on a structural mounting point I might be hosed. I'd hate to part it out since l love the bike.
-
well, worst case it could be the gearbox is cracked and structurally shot. The drip has been constant but slight for the last year. And only occurs after I ride it. Looking at the photos, I still can't locate the vent or the seal mentioned. To get to it, do I start from the top and tank the tank off or the bottom and remove the started? Or both? I've looked all these threads and repair manual and still can't make out where to start.
-
yeah, it's the pink stuff in the tranny and it's dripping. Like the photo. just a little. I'd ride it anywhere but it marks its spot.
-
My gearbox has been dripping for a year now. I thought it was dripping from the drain plug but see it coming from behind the starter. I assume that I have leak on top of the transmission or there is breather or vent up there. So I've searched this site as well as the repair manual and can't find the gearbox breather. Before I take off the tank or perhaps the started motor, I'd like to know what I am looking for and where. Not a big deal, just a few drops. Seems to be worse after I ride when the fluid gets warm and a little pressure builds in the tranny. So the leak doesn't appear to be below the fluid level. A little help guidance here would be appreciated. I've posted this photo before. Thanks
