what color is the silver gray color on the Sport engine and wheels? the timing cover 0n the Sport got buggered up pretty good on the ride home from the Spine Frame Raid, it would be nice to respray it (or polish it like the EV).
-
Probably so. But them clipon brackets is damned purdy.
-
I've dropped the pan on the Sport twice now and lost count on the EV. Actually the Sport is easiest because there is no spacer plate.

I like the idea of machining the stock bar ends to accept the mirrors. Perhaps just a narrow bend handle bar similar to the V11 naked would make for sense? Glad I asked this before I just jumped into and tried to put it all together. I have the OEM mirrors on my Suzuki Bandit and they work great.
-
My Sport has been the converted to handle bars with CRG "Lane Splitter" bar end mirrors. I have the original parts and would like to reinstall the factory clip-ons with the CRG mirrors (rather than OEM mirrors). I know several of you tun this set-up. Two questions: 1. Visibility. Are the CRG superior or equal to the stock mirrors when attached to clip-ons? 2. Vibration. I note that with the clip-ons bar ends have huge and heavy vibration dampeners that go almost half the length of the bar itself. The CRG bar end are only a internal mount with no vibration dampener whatsoever and very light. Is the adequate vibration dampening? Are additional parts required?

I've been running Castrol 20-50 Motorcycle Oil and Castrol Synthetic 75-90 gear oil for the tranny and rear end (+ Harper's molly additive). I change oil every 2-3 k miles and Uni oil filter every 6k when I service the tranny, rear end, plugs and valves. For the EV, I do the same but change the filter and major service at 10k miles. The 6k and 10k intervals are prescribed in the respective owner's manuals. I don't understand why the intervals are different. I don't search for Aqip brand oil. You can get 4 L jug of Castrol Motorcycle semi-syn for $28.

I've been servicing my Sport after 2500 mile r/t to the Spine Frame (not a) Rally. Today I decided to change the oil + filter. I got the proper tool to drop the porthole to install the filter. after installing the filter, I could not get the porthole plug back in. It cross threaded every time I tried to reinstall it. Finally I dropped the pan. I did get it back on. It doesn't appear to be leaking. Man, it took a lot of time. Don't think I'll do this again. anyway, new fluids and valve adjustment (both intakes were a little loose). Done, but my 2 hours job turned into an all day affair.

so the failed relay Sunday was the last one (5th one counting from the left)? Fuel & Ignition? (the bike turned over but the fuel pump didn't run) In a pinch, could you take #2 relay (headlight) to replace any of the other four to get the bike to run? (actually that was the first try that got the bike running)

It's a challenge keeping the Sport reined in because there is a lot more left. It's a very stable handling machine and forgiving. I was concerned keeping the speed down and didn't want to risk another ticket. Some of the roads were blind and I won't go over a hill or corner faster than I can see- I got fooled once and nearly drove into a driveway when it appeared the road was turning that way. I think that was the only time I crossed the yellow unintentionally. The bigger challenge is sitting on it for 100+ miles at a time and burning up tires on the interstate. My legs get cramped on it. Next time, I am pulling a trailer like I've done before. The ticket has been paid ($141) and no record

morning shots begin here. http://killboy.photoreflect.com/store/Orderpage.aspx?pi=04RK022C060000&po=0&pc=1147 afternoon shots begin here: http://killboy.photoreflect.com/store/Orderpage.aspx?pi=04RK022C061094&po=1094&pc=1147 you can follow the sequence of riders from these photos. Too bad there were few morning shots when were pushing it rather than cruising home in the afternoon.

I just got back home. About 2500 miles. I like the Sport but wouldn't call it a touring bike. My legs got a little cramped. Mileage ranged from 32 to 40. Mostly 34. Docc, thanks for putting me up and putting up with me. Spent an extra day in Nashville. Thanks Rick for the guide work getting me there. Bill, sorry about your accident, hope to see you soon. You were there in spirit. Your fellow countryman, "The Chancellor" was a real hoot. Thanks all for the good company, the great rides and the good food. That was quite a roller coaster to Franklin. I'd say that we had well skilled riders, no crashes. Unfortunately, I did get a ticket. Hope to be back again. Did anyone find us on Killboy?

Just remembered. Guzzi dealer in Tulsa. Was able to get a spare gasket. Having breakfast. Heading east

Bill, metcha at Elkador National. You and your better half were on a Red Norge. My wife and I were on the Red & White EV. I think it was at Pike's Peak Park. Looks like I'll be sharing a room on Saturday with Rick. But it's OK if you wanna share your Jacuzzi. I am taking some backroads through the Ozarks. I just retired and haven't ridden the Dragon in a few years and never before on the Greenie. Bring your spare valve cover gaskets and hide your scotch. . I have room to pack a few cigars. good to go, good buddy. I'll be on my way tomorrow btw- if anyone has some extra valve cover gaskets, it would be great if you'd being them. For some reason my left side gasket was leaking last week, and the right one today. As a result, I've used both my spares, the last one I was going to take with me. Don't know why this is happening.

the weather looks better but the lodge is full. they tell me the nearest motel is 17 miles away. perhaps next year I'll get organized and make it.
-
looks like the weather forecast is improving. wonder if there are any room left? thanks for calling last night. dithering

is possible to intall the complete upgrade to Ohlins parts with radial brakes? That might be the only replacements available from the OEM. If so, that's what I would hold the shipper for replacement costs. hopefully there was insurance quite suspicious that a package that large would be lost.
-
I was interested to go. I checked. The lodge was booked on Saturday night. No rooms available. I didn't quite understand the double occupancy part. Maybe next year, It's about 1000 mile ride.

Greased my $%#&*^$ U joints - now what about the rust?

so how did you cut it up? -

Andy, it looks like the service window was cut on the wrong side of the guard. It appears you've cut the guard all the way through on the aft end and made a completely new hole. -

that's the way mine looks too. So I can see some allen bolts fastening the U Joint. Does the hole needs to be enlarged a good inch or so to get to the zerk? -

I haven't greased the U joints on my 2001 Greenie. Are you saying the window is too small to get to the grease fitting? If so can't I expand it will a grinding drill bit or Dremil tool without removing it? the owner's manual illustration is useless. -
you probably have a pinched gasket which is pretty common. take off the cover and see where it's kinked. you might (probably) need a new gasket.

If the bike is creeping while it's in gear, the clutch isn't fully disengaging. I had a similar experience with my Suzuki which also has a hydraulic actuated clutch. The rubber hose expands over time. You might add some hydraulic fluid and see it it takes up the slack. Worked for me. I later had the system flushed and went about my business.
