I would guess heat and wear coupled with the tight clarences. Here's a hint for the future. Once you find TDC on "D" side ("dis-side", rider's right). Mark the alternator fin at the top, like noon on a clock. The "S" side ("s'not-this side", rider's left), the mark will be at 3 o'clock when turn the alternator nut. If you get no clearance with the feeler gauge, go around another full turn. Once you have the "D" done, go around a full turn then a quarter turn to the 3 o'clock. I'd also check the TPS and clean the relay connections, just because.

My sidestand switch came loose. The nut came off. I found an thin M8 but it won't go more than a half turn. I won't force it. The thread looks standard. Any ideas? I checked the parts break out and then only give a part number for it.

It's the anchor from the USS Oklahoma, sunk at Pearl Harbor. You might be able to read some of it on the monument next to the anchor. Edit: I see that it was discussed above.

I run my Greenie full soft on the front, have rebuilt the rear and stiffer. This combo handles fine for me and minimizes weave when riding around big trucks on the interstate highways 75+ mph, particularly with big HB Jr bags. This bike has wide handlebar conversion, that likely has bearing on it's tendency to weave. The trade off is quick steering in the twisties. I've ridden the bikes on several long distance trips, like from Okla to NC Spineframe deal. Several back and forth to Austin for COTA and Springfield IL Flat Track. I'm considering retiring the Greenie for roadster duty and taking the bag mounts off. I've been riding a lot lately and enjoy it as change from the Ducati.

I got my Sport Guzzi tank bag welt reupholstered today. Met the guy a few days ago. He said it was ready. But he had to redo some of. I think he was alone and wanted someone to yack for an hour or so while he got it right. Said he was a Harley rider, crashed and spent some time in coma. Wore polyester slacks and played classic rock. Told him he needed to get on Guzzi. I didn't have the heart to say that he'd fit right in. But yeah. Great guy. I love guys that help me out. My barber, bike tech, car tech, this guy. Can't put my doctor among them. But you get the drift. All the good and talented people that get you where you need to be, make you smile and laugh, make life better. Yeah, he should get a Guzzi.

$5200 isn't a bad price, I wonder what the reserve was? Perhaps the high bidder will contact the owner and make a deal? It looks like a nice bike, certainly if you wanted a gray one. I didn't see the OEM exhaust on this one. I'd think that should be included.

I more or less follow the schedule. I used to change it earlier. I check how dirty it is. My Duc says to go to 9k. Since it used a quart at 4k, that seems a little too much. Usually change it 4-5k, very easy to do. But I use blended rather than full synth oil- still meets the standard grade according to the owner's manual.

Saw the Dead & Co at Boulder CO last Sunday. I've got no photos or vids. There must've been 70k people there. The stands were full except for a few no view sections and the field was filled through both end zones. Everyone was extremely polite. Some of the note worthy performances were drums and voice for the first few verses of "Samson and Delilah", and Mikey doing a rap reprise of the 1st verse during "Fire on the Mountain". They played "US Blues" and "Morning Dew". My wife got a bad dose of altitude sickness staying with our friends and 9k ft el. She fainted twice and fell hard both times, out cold. ER checked her out and said her potassium was low. The next morning she dang near fainted again so we took off. Went to Manitou Springs, next stop Taos and home on Thursday.

writing of Setzer, I don't own any Stray Cats but I do have his Boogie Woogie Christmas Record. It's quite good. Big band, rockabilly. Anne Margaret and Lou Rawls are on it too. I don't get how a V engine has better combustion flow than a straight inline engine. If anything the inline layout should allow for more room to place the intake exhaust manifolds. Not so certain the vibrations given than all those engines are big bang either. Not disputing as much as just don't understand. So far a bearings, I'd guess the V engine have fewer but larger bearings? maybe not. One area the European bikes might have an advantage is with the Magneti Marelli ecu. Since they aren't a supplier to the Japanese bikes. I'd still be interest to know advantages with desmo vs pneumatic valve train.

I can get the crankshaft being shorter and stiffer for a V4. Not sure why torque and power are affected. I'm not sure if any or all engines use counter balancers. The big-bang firing intervals are all unique to each manufacturer, both KTM and Ducati modeling it after their twins and Honda and Aprilia from their V4. At one time Honda ran a V5 before the rule change. IIRC the Duc uses desmo valve train whereas all the other bike have pneumatic valve springs. Thanks for posting those references, I'll have to look at them.

Suzuki out, Honda and Yamaha down for the count. The mighty Japanese have fallen. If Honda stays in MotoGP, I'll bet they'll be back stronger than ever in 3 seasons. It's been their history of rock bottom to the top.
