They are purposely modified street bikes for racing. I think MA, BSB & WSBK are very close with the rules. But the basic Yamaha street bike is at least 6 years old, the Suzuki like 10. The Ducati is just a couple of years old. So the Duc has newer tech and the legacy bikes have a longer track record of refinement but perhaps run out of tweaks. Super Stock class bikes are a class down from the Superbikes and have fewer modifications. I think AMA Superbikes in the late '00's took it about as far as it would go. Those bikes were truly tricked out, even the gas tanks were moved under stock appearing bodywork. Then the rules got stricter to what we have now. Having written all that, even off the showroom, those bikes are extremely capable and few riders can get close to exploiting them. Modifications make them that much faster.

Riding Breeches / Riding Jeans?
LowRyter replied to LowRyter's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
I purchased a stretch belt from WalMart and have a great fit with room to stuff in heavier shirts. The pants are comfy, a little warm in the sun walking around but seem to shield some of the considerable Ducati engine heat in traffic. I did a good amount of cleaning and chain adjustment on my knees working on the driveway on the bike and the jeans were quite comfy, the stretchy belt did it's job. I have some armor that I'm going to trim to insert in the internal pockets. -
DP#9 is running the latest Ducati. All the other bikes are legacy in one form or the other. I see that Shek moved the team from a location close to me to Pennsylvania and teamed up with Ferraci. One of the big challenges beside the unfamiliar tracks are the Dunlop tires. I have wonder what's wrong with the bike after the engine smoked, DNF'd and how they'll get it back together.

Riding Breeches / Riding Jeans?
LowRyter replied to LowRyter's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Just a follow up. I did purchase some riding jeans from New Enough. Got some Cortech brand "Primary Riding Jeans" on close out for 55% off. This was a their former top of the line stuff.Limited sizing. So far pretty comfy, a little big and long. I can roll up the cuffs and stuff my shirt inside and tighten the belt. Heavy jeans with with blended Kevlar in the fabric, heavy threading and knee/hips armor cups. Claimed to be 500% more abrasion resistant than jeans. -
The holes in my wheels are open, no plugs.

I wouldn't worry about ethanol gas on a trip. You'll burn it in couple of hours riding, Buck-ee's in an hour and half. I'd worry more about stations that had stagnant gas that might be dirty and clogging the fuel system.- 111 replies

I can share a couple of possible reasons. I had my Sport on a Dynojet chassis dyno. The torque curve on my bike craters at about 1800-2000 and then pops right back up. Just enough to give an "oh-shit" moment taking off on an intersection leaned over for a turn.. The other thing, putting in new plugs seems to help as well as a healthy move with the right wrist. I'm not saying this is a universal issue, just my experience. As they say, your mileage might very (especially if you fill up at Buck-ee's )- 111 replies

As I mentioned earlier. I was driving from Houston, going home. I filled up at Buck-ee's. My mpg lost 4 mpg. I'm guessing that their premium gas had a lot of ethanol/air/water filler in it. Some of you preto engineers can tell me why I'm wrong. I still didn't like the three block walk to the bathroom. First and last time of getting gas there after numerous opportunities since.- 111 replies

Yeah, the Beemer-Duc dealer here that went bust had one, I think they said it was $120k. They were vague who owned it, like they were about everything. Went bankrupt and screwed a lot of people, some rumors of fraud. A year or so later a new team opened up the same franchises in the same place. I think Don (Motiv) was the original mechanic there. He once told me he had to purchased his own tools in an auction after they went broke. Anyway, Ducs are really collectable. Despite the newer bikes are much more capable and reliable, you can bet the older rare bike will be worth something. I remember that single cylinder bike they built in the early '90's is out of site for multi 10's of thousands, not sure why.

That one was the first gen GP replica and they were about $70k+ when new. The new V4 is about $30k+ for the desmo sport version and $25k+ for valve spring version on the Multi Stada. I think that they're all big bang versions with the two crank throws opposed at 70 degrees on the 90 degree V4. According to wiki the firing interval is 90-200-90-340. Anyway, like GP bikes, they bark, they don't scream despite running 15k+ rpms.

Marquez lost because he was in last place because of a botched start. If he hadn't been last but even mid pack, he very well could've won. The Suzukis didn't have the horsepower to keep up with Ducs on the long straights but have good tire wear and handling to run a consistent race. -

yeah, that doohickey. I don't know why so many german cars have issues with timing chain adjusters. I think that's something an owner should get fixed before it fails. There is an after market fix/replacement for the intermediate shaft (or whatever it's called) but the owner can't wait for failure. -

Triumph Speed RR versus Ducati Panigale V2?
LowRyter replied to p6x's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
I feel your pain, I just had to put a new battery in my Corvette yesterday. It's an easy lift but cost me a full $170 ! <Guzzi content> The scary part was only finding one after going to four different autoparts stores and Walmart. The strange part is the battery died before my very eyes. After opening the electric hatch latch, the electric door latch failed to open. Battery was checked at 5volts. DEAD. Car is daily driver. -

Glad to know he's fit to ride. Still not my favorite but I can appreciate him overcoming a struggle.
