Corona / Covid19

Perhaps one of the saddest songs ever written. I have the version with Mark Knopfler. But she has another one just as sad. Gawd, that woman can make you cry -

Corona / Covid19
LowRyter replied to Admin Jaap's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
I've been riding when the weather is good. Doing some bike maintenance, household projects, and yard work. We're catching up on reading and playing some cards. Have my sons over for dinner once or twice a week but keep good distance and hygiene. I am still thinking of organizing some local meet up rides. Just to ride together, or meet and bring a sack lunch. It doesn't look good for rallies. Certainly social distancing isn't a problem until we have a potluck meal or go to the bathroom. Still we need to be creative and figure out ways to ride and visit (at least a distance). Final thought is about the virus itself. We did read that high humidity does help the lungs when fighting the virus. Also, read that humidity might have a prophylactic effect . So you guys might check this info (hard to know what to believe) and pick up an indoor humidifier. Those items seem to be plentiful. -

The bike is a very nice piece and worth your original asking price. With global economy nearly shut down, it might be an issue trying to sell it. -

So far, we're home, doing yard work between rain storms. My plans are to do some riding and bike servicing and to plant a garden. The city is just now closing the bars, restaurants, & gyms. I discovered yesterday that juggling landscape timbers is a pretty good substitute for weight training. I think I'll get one just to hoist around in the backyard. It's light enough when balanced but too heavy on the ends. Seems pretty versatile for a weight. I don't think walking will be a substitute for elliptical training but I have difficulty running (flat feet). I have lots of reading to catch up. For me BBQ is a sport. I have one son working from home and another trying to find online work. I would imagine they'll be both be out of work soon. I can carry their rent for a year or so if I have to. I have no idea what medical bills might be. We're in our mid/late 60s, so we'll have to keep our distance. I really need to hang in, so I can keep my pension coming in. You might notice that I mentioned volunteer disaster/medical in another thread. I have signed up now. So far I've gotten a notice for data entry help. My state is in dire need of virus testing, so we're shutting down everything as a precaution. I'll just end it now before I tell you my real opinion about where we're at here. Best to you all. Glad I have this community to stay in touch. -
For sure hope you don't have it. Best to you.

First, glad you're ok. Hope you get the bike running. Without pictures hard to say but your description sounds fixable. That spine is pretty stout piece of steel, so it's likely still straight. I'd imagine the attaching points and hardware would be the areas of concern.

Ducati might've doubled up on special editions and fudged the numbers. My guess for Guzzi, given the popularity, if they made a special run of 200 bikes, they probably built just 100 and used only odd numbers on the serials just to appear popular.

Thanks Docc. Even though I was fearful of breaking the whole mess, I was well on my way of doing that but the bike finally restarted and ran. Glad to know it's possible to do that. (I have a feeling I'll be attempting a lot of bike "maintenance" over the next few months. You guys might be the few folks I'll be communicating to as well.)

I'd take my fuse holder apart but the left side allen head is stripped out. Guzzi fasteners drive me nuts.
-
Some of us just wiggle all the fuses and relays and spray contact cleaner over everything. The next step is shake those chicken bones and dance across the driveway. I haven't gotten to the sacrifice offerings.

I never heard of Ashley Law, not knew of anyone ever racing V11. So when I tried to read about, all I could find was these photos. I found that IoM keeps extensive photos of competitors for each annual event online. I would like to read about him and the venture. So, if anyone has a link to the story, it would be great. The bike looks surprisingly stock / street legal, right down to having mufflers- even minimal stickers.

I wonder how much faster he'd have been on a Greenie?

Just a note. I am retired guy. I am very concerned about the Coronavirus. Yes, my hair is on fire but I'm not gonna debate it here. But it got me motivated. I am applying for volunteer status at the State Health Dept. I've learned that since 9/11 the entire nation has a volunteer emergency force (mine is the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps ). These are statewide volunteer groups to help out with any planned or unplanned events that might affect public safety. My state is #1 for Federal emergencies (per capita) and only behind TX and Cali for all emergencies. I've passed 3 of my 4 tests to participate. I have no medical skill (or mechanical skills as everyone here knows), hopefully I can work the planning, budgeting, and logistics stuff. If not, I'll pass out leaflets and clean the floors. All states have these organizations. Anyway, food for thought for all you retired guys. There are times of emergency that the paid folks can't keep up with, we're all in the same country, so no need waiting for some else to do what needs to be done. After I get some hands on, I'll tell ya straight if this a help to the world or just eyewash PR deal. -
I noticed the Radio Shack name is now at the Hobby Town. They don't have near what RS had.

Checking in on Middle Tennessee

Living in Okla, for sure these devastating storms follow very similar paths. For example, Moore OK, just south of Okla City was hit with two huge tornado in '99 and '13. It looks like this one Nashville is just as deadly. Following the same path, meaning that these storms follow the path of I-44, the highway that runs from Wichita Falls to St Louis. Along the way WF TX, Moore OK, and Joplin MO have all been hit by devastating storms. The storms that hit Moore, followed the highway for 50 miles. The path of the two storms paralleled each at within a 5 miles difference, perhaps less that two miles when they hit Moore. Despite the the warning, tracking the storms, there wasn't adequate shelter. Tragically, many young children were killed in a grade school, that wasn't an adequate to protect them from the storm. BTW- we still don't have a funded shelter program for our schools. For myself, I decided to have a prefab storm cellar installed in my garage, with sliding doors that open right under my car ($3000). The reason I decided, a few years ago there were storms 15 miles west of my house, heading directly east. I left work early, only to be stranded on the freeway with bumper to bumper traffic. That's when occurred to me, you hide but you can't run. The worst was knowing my family was unprotected and they were in a full scale panic after my wife dropped by son off at shelter, she then came home to wait for me. That was it. If you don't have a shelter, I'd recommend finding an internal room and putting on your motorcycle gear. I wonder about getting in the car in the garage with gear on? -
That's a passenger peg according to ebay. Can you verify that's the right part number?

I didn't even see the SS in the video. Perhaps we saw a different video? The one I saw was the history of Ducati and didn't see any mention of the 939. The bike is about 450 wet, seems feather light and most agile bike I've ever owned. It's also extremely stable, I can take my hands of the bars and wave both hands like Miss America. You can purchase a slip-on kit Akra from Ducati, so it won't void the warranty. And there are a few on the board that have done so, replaced the exhaust flapper valve and cat, and put an electric widget to short the CEL. I think the bike sounds great OEM, I wouldn't for a minute change out the exhaust since the stock unit looks great, sounds great, gives up little if any performance. The cat however gets hot and weight about 10lb. But believe me, you'll hear the engine. It sounds great with OEM exhaust better than any showroom bike. But you found the only drawback. The bike only has 113 HP, perhaps 100 at the rear wheel. It would great to have 20 more HP if they could keep the agility and balance. Actually the bikes isn't bad since I put on a smaller front sprocket and have 10k on it. It revs pretty good. I purchased mine used with standard suspension (I'm not an Ohlins guy) with factory saddlebags with 1300 miles on and a year's warranty left for about 30% off new. I think AMS Dallas had a couple more used ones. -

Owning a '17 939 Super Sport, as well as an EV and a Greenie, I'll just say that my Duc is best bike I've ever owned and have ever ridden. Nothing wrong with older bikes, nostalgia bikes, each has a place. But so far as braking, handling, power, agility, balance, comfort, and styling it beats all of them. Well OK, the Greenie is better looking and sounds better. I hope the Duc holds up but so far it's been pretty flawless (however, I am crossing my fingers if I have cooling leak, might go for extended warranty). -

Glad you're ok. What can you do when you get runover? -
An 850 LeMans just won't cut it. Sorry. No more that a V7 Racer is a sport bike. Nope. Make it a 1400 or hot rod the 1200 but the small block won't do. Since I got the Supersport, I'm no longer in the market but that's what I think.
