Fifteenth South'n Spine Raid 2019
LowRyter replied to Blueboarhound's topic in Meetings, Clubs & Events
Typically it's the first weekend after Labor Day at the Telico Plains Lodge . It's pretty easy for the Lodge to fill up even with a 8 or 10 Guzzi riders. Routes from Vancouver? BC? c'mon, the entire continent? -
I thought the ones that were made on the last go round were a few bucks.
-
wait. $200 for EACH spring? I guess I wasn't paying attention. If true, please scratch me from the list.

If it helps the costs, I can purchase another. I still have the last one in my tankbag.

Keeping the Clutch Disengaged / Bike in 1st at a Stoplight
LowRyter replied to Kane's topic in Technical Topics
All this about being run over at a stop light makes me think that we'd be better off to lane split and get between cars. So far as checking mirrors and losing an extra nanosecond's difference to get away by shifting from neutral, well.........huh -
I fooled myself thinking it was closed on a couple of occasions and finally figured out I needed pliers to close it. Lots of gas on the floor. Then it started leaking. So, I don't have a pet cock, just an open junction. I have a cork the might fit. I also purchased a quick disconnect but it about 5 inches long and I haven't installed it. IIRC another MG petcock is $75 or so. I think I'll leave well enough alone until I pull the tank off again.

In the case of my 2000 Greenie, I find the fork to be fairly compliant. My big issue was having it set too stiff. I was going to Race Tech for revalve/respring route but I neglected to play with the adjusters. Once I did, it made a huge difference. I wrongly assumed that everything should be stiffer. I found just the opposite. The front end bounces and deflects and when it's too stiff it contributes to weave at speed. I discovered it was much worse when I had a new tire installed and the tech had put 40 lb of air in it. Then it dawned on me that front was just too stiff. Softening the adjusters made a big difference and I discovered there was a lot more adjustability than I guessed. I'd suggest playing around with it first. If I still didn't like it, I'd contract Race Tech. They don't list anything but others here have gotten their products.

looks like a great time Scud. I don't see a tag or signals, so I assume the bikes isn't street legal?

Anyone know what headlight is on that Cafe Sport?

My Ducati has a tire and gearing setup menu to it. I only set it once when I changed the gearing. I've done front and rear tires (twice) and never had to run it. All I can say, the old tire must've really been worn down on that V85 for the sensor to pick it up.
-
Learn to wrench? I am not sure if I've learned much but owning Guzzis have given ample opportunity in that regard.
-
I figured that gunning the motor and accelerating like heck was one of the reasons I cracked the gearbox case. So I guess I needed the brace so I could continue to gun it like heck.

I got my rear shock rebuilt and resprung. My goal was to do away with "weave" when hauling HB bags at approx 80mph around semis. When I tried to adjust the shock, the clicker wasn't working. So I got it rebuilt, with a stiffer spring, clicker working. I discovered that that the bigger issue for me was the front set too stiff and had little compliance and would "bounce". So after the softening the front, this made the changes I was looking for. If I wanted the forks to be revalved and the spring changed out, I'd call Race Tech and get a Gold Valve Kit. Personally, I think the front is stiff enough. I suppose I am one of the few here that have some of the worst issues but still am satisfied with the OEM parts after a repair and learning to adjust it.

Eyeballing mine, something's bent. The strange thing, the top photo it looks like the right side is bent outward whereas the bottom photo looks like the left side is bent inward. I suppose it's the angle of the photo. I think the right side bracket is bent so that muffler is pointed outward, so I think it's twisted as well as bent in.

Yes, you are right. He is the better of three. I originally liked the show but after a season or so, I got really sick of "the stupid car tricks" and blatant bigotry and elitism. The show was 1969 Car & Driver magazine meets Monty Python, so I thought it was very derivative from the start. The newer version is even worse by keeping the stupid parts and replacing the bigotry with blandness. I have to run subtitles just to know what they are saying. I find the interviews particularly bad. Yes, I still watch it, despite hating it. Usually, I just DVR through it just to see the neat cars and catch a bit of dialog and move on.

When filling the rear drive, I just leave the overflow open and make sure there's no excess. I don't know about Redline but that moly is thick as honey and won't wash out of anything. It's so thick that it might take a half hour for all stuff to leak down from the top of the gears and inside walls.
-
Having seen all this. I've never taken the rear cowl off my bike and had a passenger on it.
-
You might do a search on the forum/internet. IIRC there a couple of sites perhaps in Europe/Germany that have a few bikes being salvaged for parts. Sorry they don't come to mind.

I once tried to purchase a bike from Pete. The "authorities" would not let me send my money to Australia. To his credit, he's never made a fuss about, not a foul word, didn't call me a welcher or nothing. I still feel a little bad about the mess. Sorta glad now that I didn't get the bike in retrospect. Anyway, I appreciate that Pete.

Yes but even with a 120 HP, new bikes have ABS and Traction Control. I don't think I'd want 190 hp bike without all that.
