Smitty's?

either one

I never buy tix in advance and don't care for the Stadium Section and Duc Island. I prefer Turn 1 which has it's own parking lot. Best view IMO. Probably will get gen adm for Friday and Saturday and get Turn 1 for raceday. Just depends on what deals i can find. Go to Lockhart for BBQ after practice.

I am returning after 3 years. This will hex Marquez. He's done. Scura from AZ? Heck I rode the Greenie all way to the Spine Frame Raid and North Carolina. The Sport and Scura should be more fun in Kerrville. I think we're watching in Turn 1 on race day, so screw the Ducks. We'll just get tickets when we get there. Stay in touch and we'll figure it out. Looking at Extended Stay America on 290 or maybe Rodeway there, always looking for hotel suggestions in gouge-town Austin.

I could use some Spanish fly but instead, I'll run the voltmeter over the battery I recall you've warned me that I shouldn't use a trickle charger with a mat battery. It did start right away, strong And ran all afternoon. Then magically started after it would't start. An old friend long ago told me that he was allergic to electricity. I might be too. voltmeter sez 12.68 v

I did the fuse and relay clean up. Only had CRC (no place in town has Deoxit). If I read Roy's diagram correctly, Relay 1 is the likely culprit. Despite stuffing this bike with new Omicrons maybe a year ago, they sure didn't look brand new. R1 had a few more marks than the others. So I took a nail file to it. Then I cleaned all the relays and fuses and holders. Hard to say. Starter has been cranking ever since the "episode".

These bikes are meant to last and lately I think of myself as partly curating my Sport for the next owner, whoever they may be It's just like antique airplanes. You don't "own" one, you just maintain it for the next keeper. ' thanks Brad.

It looks like a couple of us are crossing the Red River into the Baja towards Austin for the big race. Perhaps following into Kerrville and theTwisted Sisters. Still planning on doing the Guzzi-Spineframe meet up at the Euro Raid in Harrison Ark end of May. Inquiring minds might be interested.

Thanks Pete. My EV would wouldn't start at times and after a year or so of living with it, I discovered it was the fuel pump fuse that wasn't making good connection. This intermittent crap drives me crazy. I can never be sure what's causing it or whether I fixed it....unease on the road.

DeOxit. Expensive stuff (Guzzi Content) .... I think I have some dielectric grease tho ...! But thinking it the fuses or relay contacts. Since those are all played with.

The battery was on a trickle charge and started right up. Then rode it about 50 miles with three or four stops along the way. It only failed after I got home and parked it in the driveway and failed several times before I finally rode it into the garage. I think it was a connection rather than the battery. I plan on cleaning it with contact cleaner and checking connections. Just trying to figure where to start.

Took a ride today. Got home and cleaned the bike in the drive. Turned the key, fuel pump buzzed, hit the starter button, the lights dimmed but started didn't go. Tried it several time, no go. Same deal, pump buzzed, hit starter button and the lights went out but no starter. Played with the fuses and she started right up..... So, one of you guy might know how the starter circuit works. Hit the button and light go out (like it should), so I am thinking it's not a problem with the starter switch? But a problem downstream with starter circuit? Relay? Fuse connection? Starter connector?

I think Peter Egan might say that this falls into the Norton routine maintenance category.

$10.5 k ? it's still a naked bare bones twin. A toy. I suppose less is more?

I was with you GM, until you said the 790 was "for a reasonable amount of money".

Daniel Kalal travels everywhere and rents Guzzis. I would bet he's done more than a couple of dozen trips in Europe. He rents Guzzis from Agostini in Mandello. He's rented Stelvios and ridden to Scandinavia, Eastern Europe as far west as the Azores Canary Islands and Ireland. https://www.agostinimandello.com/ http://www.dankalal.net/

Rider magazine said 790 Duke did 97 horses and 411 lb on rear wheel dyno. (approximate memory)

why?

nothing wrong with a 2 valve Guzzi when pulling in midrange in the right gear. I enjoy my Sport over any 4 valve Guzzi I've ridden.

Al- The seat is lower on the Calvin. That accounts for the leg room. I don't know why the handling felt different. I am going by memory since I rode the Calvin back to back with my EV when the Calvin was new, like 10 years ago. If memory serves, it has the same engine as the Breva. Perhaps it felt faster due to better maps? So far as handling, the California bikes handle much better than any cruiser and most standards of it's day. Great ground clearance, balanced, braking, etc. It's really rider's bike, like all Guzzis. It's a cruiser in appearance only IMO. And the differences I note between the Calvin and my EV are very slight. It could just be a normal variance. I recently stored another bike identical to my EV (same year and color) and that one seemed a little faster than mine too.

pretty neat. It appears to be pretty nice bike.

OK. The Ozark Spineframe Raid - Guzzi Rally - NAR is now wrapped into the Ozark RAT/Euro Raid. Got that? It just means anyone interested will meet up at the Euro Rally in Harrison Ark, 20 May - 2 June, Quality Inn. https://www.ozarkratraid.com/

I have no personal relationship with Greg Field. Just stating frankly how I acquired the bag. Wouldn't know him if was walking in the front door. If you have a chance to get a factory bag, I would do that. There is nothing better than a magnetic tank bag IMO. Not an option with a plastic (or aluminum) gas tank.

well, here's the deal about an EV vs a CalVin. The EV has tubeless tires, has more legroom and seems to handle better. The CalVin has the 1100 Breva engine with a little more power, and shifts a little better.
