I just took the Greenie on a 1500+ mile rt trip (OKC - Springfield IL). I had the front tire changed before I left. Anyway, the right front brake is shedding brake dust everywhere. A day's ride and it's black, all over the rim, even on the fork and fender. I am not riding the brake and much of the ride was on open highways where the brakes were barely used. I would check it when I stopped, neither the rotor or the caliper was hot. I did a few brake checks in the twisties and no fade. No fade at any time for the entire trip. It's a dirty and strange problem for me and my three (Guzzi) riding buddies to figure out.

If you have spark, fuel, and compression, I would guess ignition timing. I would make sure I had spark and fuel. Just pull a lead, get a spare plug and watch it spark on the fins (if you hadn't done so). I had a similar problem on my EV. The fuel pump wasn't working because the fuse wasn't making good contact in the fuse block. It was intermittent and drove me nuts; I only figured it out by accident. Sorry, I am not much help.

I thought that "little black plastic cylinder" was a replacement for the micro switch striker ball bearing (that likes to fall out)? (I went through all that crap yesterday working on my EV.)

Yes. The guys on Wildguzzi said to post here also in that you folks could give me more info. I was one of them. You might check out the transmission leak thread. IIRC this is a low mileage "red frame" bike so the leak isn't an issue now but I would recommend that you consider installing the support bracket to prevent a cracked transmission housing. My mechanic was able to weld the tranny case and fix the leak on mine. He was also able fabricate a support bracket that attaches the frame to bell housing. My bike had about 35k miles on it when it started to leak. I think he's sold half a dozen or so to folks on the list.

regarding air pressure. I've complained about weave when carrying my large HB Jr bags. Since I am traveling next week to Springfield Mile, I decided to experiment with air pressure. My test today with the weighted bags was 45 lb of air in the rear and 30 lb in the front. It did seem a lot less nervous up to about 80 (couldn't get much faster). Got around some Semis and followed a Dually and it seems much better. Of course until I am traveling 80 around Semis, I won't know for sure. Anyway, 45/30.

Lee, you are the same person that posted this on Wild Guzzi?

I was tent camping at Barber for the Superbike races, It was April and 90 degrees when I got there Thursday night. Sunday morning was record cold with frost on my Suzuki. . The floats were stuck and it wouldn't run. I gave away my lap of the circuit ticket ($20). Luckily I trailered. Had a great time.

docc, "waiting for columbus" is my all time fav live album. I think we're on the same wavelength. it's been a good year for my music: 1) Tom Petty's opening concert for the tour 4-20 (OKC) 2) Roger Waters show from his rehearsal venue (Tulsa) 3) Dead & Co (Boulder) (got a copy of the concert) 4) TTB (Red Rocks) 5) don't forget KG & The Girls- Chuck, FYI, they're, heading to the MEL next week

my opinion is that I like the Dunlops on my Sport. But I used to ride Dunlops on my Bandit until one of the replacement series lasted half as much as the previous Dunlop. After that I didn't use Dunlops until I had a flat on my newly acquired Sport. The Dunlop was the only tire available and worked well. I put a set of Michelins on the Sport (like I run on my Bandit) and was disappointed that the rear was shot at half the expected distance (deja vu all over again) so I did a reverse switch and went back to Dunlops.

Not sure why you were naughty and not allowed to post a photo. Semi-synthetic motorcycle oil or full synthetic car oil? Hmmm... interestingly motorcycle oils are typically designed for gearbox and/or clutch, neither of which are an issue with the MG. Which makes the MG engine oil requirements more like a... car. The alphabet soup: API SERVICE: Exceeds API SG JASO (T903): JASO MA-2 VISCOSITY: SAE 10W-30 // 10W-40 // 20W-40 // 20W-50 JASO (T903): JASO FB

MT- if you wallet has anything to do with it, I would bet you'll run the Dunlops.

for better or worse, I run this. I costs somewhere from $25-$30 a gallon, Castrol Actevo 20-50 Motorcycle part synthetic oil. Which I am not allowed to post a photo of the bottle.

I admit to being "somewhat" heavier than Scud but I will tell ya that the Sport suspension is firm enough that sport riding on bumpy roads can get me in trouble. I am going to play with air pressures when I haul my Jr Bags up the interstate on Labor Day (I am thinking 42 lb rear and 28 front) to keep it from "weaaaavinnggggg".

my tank can be removed and reinstalled without being toughly muscled. But the nose of the tank gets some rash due to full lock on the bars (a little more prone on the left side).

Dave, you can get a new fuel level indicator from Harpers. The cost has come down considerably. I replaced mine on the EV (thanks to a ham fisted mechanic- not me- that plugged it into the electric petcock) (hint" removed the electric petcock fuse if you still have one). The one thing I noticed it's a little more sensitive and comes on about 15 miles earlier than the old one.

I have had PR4 and RoadSmart (not sure the number). They both handle about the same. Michelins take a little time to warm up. The PR4 rear didn't last very long on my Sport but is holding up OK on my Bandit. Really, it comes down to cost, so the Dunlop is the clear winner in my book (for the V11). Not sure about the Bandit though.

Labor Day Sunday is the Mile Flat Track at Springfield Ill. I've been to the race a couple of times and heading back this year. It's the most exciting motorcycle racing on the planet. A few of us on Wild Guzzi are heading back this year. The deal I am in is at the Doubletree Hotel. For $215, you get a room for 2, 2 tickets to the race and 2 T-shirts. Unfortunately I am sharing a room with local guy Darren rather than my usual roommates, Kristen Stewart and her girlfriends. But Darren is a much better riding buddy than Kristen (too many stops to check her make up) and we'll be buzzing through the Ozarks on the way. So I guess Darren is the best roommate. Anyway, if you're free on Labor Day, you couldn't do better, even if you don't get the Doubletree deal. (my photos from 2 years ago)

I posted a little about Jack for you bass guys Chuck (and Docc).....don't know if you agree with my point about Jack playing it like a guitar? So far as STFU, lately it's the twenty-something gals that yell each other non stop why the band is playing at volume louder than the PA. Like I said to the guy next to me at the Dead show that was pissed about it, I said "well at least the sound system is so much better than 40 years ago". Regarding Jorma and Jack playing with TTB, I really wanted to hear an Airplane tune with Susan singing Grace's part, like "White Rabbit" or "Somebody to Love". But it was good seeing them do that James Brown thing. Right now I've run out of shows to see. Any good bands coming through that I might see? My future travels are the eclipse in KC and the Mile at Springfield Ill. No music.
