    Decent Tune-up

Hi Rookie, I'm in Reading UK and am in the process of buying all the cables to connect GuzziDiag etc and set the TPS. I can let you know how I get on. I'm not a pro but am competent and lots of clear advise on here as to which way to go. Where abouts in Bucks are you and what do you have? Martin
  2. Hi All, I'm in the process of buying the necessary cables etc and been looking at lots of the topics 'Decent tune up' and several others etc. I have a 2001 V11 and looking at the GuzziDiag page how do I find out which reader / writer programmne I need as there seem to be multiple options? Sorry if it's an obvious question - Cheers - Martin
  3. Hi All, Can you tell what is the process step by step for adjusting my steeing head bearings on a 2001 V11? They are just a little on the tight side. Also, (and I know this depends on the weight of the rider etc) but what have people generally found to be a good set up on the compression and rebound settings of the front forks. Mine is pre Ohlins set up. Thanks for your help - M
  4. Great, thanks. I would be interested to see people's bikes that retain the silver engine and red frame but have changed the colour of the bike to get an idea of how there look. Might need a separate thread for that though
  5. Dear All I have a silver V11 2001 model and have got hold of a front fairing form a later Tenni model. As the clipons fit on below the triple clamp am I going to have to get risers to stop the controls fowling the fiaring as I think later models had the clipons fiited above the triple tree? Anyone tried it? Thanks, Maritn
  6. Dear All, I have a 2001 V11 sport here in the UK which has covered about 25K and is in generally good shape. However, recent difficulties with changing gear and the lever not returning has caused further investigation. Naturally return spring was the first port of call but all intact and fine as were the other springs and playing around with the detent setting made no difference. This only happened when the bike had done about 60km and up to tempreature. From cold there were no issues and a nice positive change in both directions. So an experienced Guzzi mechanic and I ripped the whole thing apart to see what was going on. On first inspection the gears in mine seemed far better than most and no discernable play in the bearings. However, on closer inspection some of the inner tracks of the bearings have some rust and the edge of the hard chrome has pitted in a couple of places all of which have to be replaced. For some unknown reason that no one can explain these gearboxes boxes suffer from rust and iit s unusual to find one that doesn't have some no matter how often the oil changes or types of oil used. We think the tolerances have changed enough when the bike is fully up to tempreature to cause enough movement and the problems associated with it. The setting of the detent position is very delicate at the best of times. The box was never designed for 90hp either it being for a 750 which never went in production and the then the factory in their wisdom decided to lump it on the V11 rather than designing something specific for the bike. The straight cut gears are on only about 10mm wide. So even a low mileage bike can suffer such difficulties. i would be interested to hear whether others have had their gearboxes apart and inspected them carefully for similar problems? Cheers, Martin
  7. Dear All, I have a 2001 V11 Sport here in the UK which gets used occasionally. It has always had a bit of a flat spot between 2500 - 3000rpm which has been a pain when moving slowly in traffic. Recently it started running iintermittently after a long run. My local shop replaced the intake rubbers and head gasket (which was weeping very slightly) so valve clearances were done. It still didn't run quite right and a faulty coil was diagnosed. It ran a lot better after this was fitted but it has increasingly started running on one cylinder from cold and then the RH one would cut in. Now it is only running on one or one and half cylinders most of the time so it suggests that the signal being sent to the coil is at fault rather than the coil itself. Looking at the plug (which has also been replaced) it is running a lot richer on the RH cylinder than the LH one. Thoughts? Best, Martin
  8. Hi All, I've been reading this thread with great interest and trepidation! The reason why? My 02 V11 Sport (23K) has started doing the same thing! Well, the bit about not fully disengaging when hot. It's fine when cold but no sense of clutch rattle when the lever is not pulled and it doesn't creep either (as yet). It happened after I did engine, filter and gearbox oil changes. I had measured out the exact amounts so new that I hadn't overfilled and then oil got past a seal onto the clutch plates. And if it had it should slip all the time? The bike doesn't get a whole lot of use. Could it be the pushrod not moving smoothly? How do I bleed the system. Where are things located? Sorry if these are some basic questions but I think people here should have the answer (!) Your help would be appreciated. Best Martin
  9. Hi All, I'm new to owing new Guzzi's having had Tonti framed models and a couple of early two strokes etc. Last year I bought a 2001 V11 with around 23,000 km on the clock year and it has been performing ok. However, there was a bit of a clunk when going over pot holes or speed bumps and when it came to MOT the local motorcycle shop picked up on this and replaced the head bearings on the bike. Having been in storage all winter but now out on the road again we still have the big clunk when over speed bumps or pot holes. I've taken it back to them and theyv'e checked the races and all is adjusted up correctly. They suggest that it could be bushes within the fork legs themselves but they are at a bit of a loss unless I want them to strip them down at some cost. My dedicated Guzzi dealer is some distance away. Has anyone else had this problem or know what it might be. The clunk is quite dramatic. All best, Martin
