There's a great video on YouTube that compares an Aprilia RS V-Twin to a Rosso Corsa "it's Monica Belluci vs Sophia Loren". Very funny and well done - one of the best quotes is "the Ohlins on the Guzzi is like paying for breast implants for your granny". That said, both guys picked the Guzzi over the Aprilia in the end!

You are too kind docc, and you have awesome emojis! I have no excuse, I lived in Florence for 2 years where I contracted this terrible disease that makes me love everything Italian (Guzzis, Ducatis, Alfa Romeos, Sofia Loren, Prosecco...), and speak Italian reasonably well. I should cross-checked with the original Italian instructions 🤪 Anyway, filled it up to .850 and the good ol Redline is right in the middle of the glass. Glad the Pawl Spring job is done, and can't wait to ride her tomorrow!

Thanks guys, .850 liters is what I thought I recalled from my old Scura. So here's where I got the info in the manual. On this page it says "transmission box" at 0.37 liters. Then I flipped to the previous page where it of course states "Rear transmission box". Doh!

...I rotated that plate fully counter-clockwise and re-assembled everything. Bike seems to shift well (at least 1st, neutral, and 2nd gear in the garage). Raining so will test ride tomorrow. One odd thing, I filled the gear oil with 0.37 liters as prescribed in the manual, and not showing up in the site glass (yes, drain plug in and bike vertical. I put in a little bit more, and still nothing, even after tilting the bike to the right of vertical. Will take it for a ride around the block and check the site glass tomorrow.

I'm about to re-assmeble with new Scudd spring. Can anyone tell me if this rotating plate needs to be in a specific position? Could not see it during disassembly. Thanks.
-
Yes, thanks Docc, that's what I'm planning to use unless there's an updated version. I also have a service manual for backup [emoji851] Thanks also for the link for the shift improvement.

I spent a fair amount of time yesterday and today going through the 700-odd entries of this thread and now have a better understanding of the process and efforts that went into making this happen! So first, a sincere thank you to all who contributed, especially of course, Scud. I ordered and received my Scud spring a few weeks ago, and my "new" V11 Le Mans was delivered last week, so it's time to get to work. I'm assuming the instructions for the installation of the Pawl Spring located in the FAQ section from 15 years ago are still the best ones to follow - could someone please confirm that, or advise if elsewhere? Many thanks.

I think they'll look great. I've put similar on a dozen bikes of different colors and I'm always pleasantly surprised with how good it looks. But more importantly, it gives you so much more stability on the bike, especially when stopping or hanging off.

Yes, you remove the same way as installing, first warm it up good with a hair dryer, or heat gun on low setting. It comes off with no problems. For installation, you warm up the tank and pad ahead of time. Since the tank has some significant contours in that area, per the instructions you start in the middle and work your way to the perimeter. I cut out a 2.5" swath of the backing paper from top to bottom, aligned it and applied, kneeding from the center up and down. Then removed the other two pieces of backing paper one at a time, and again pressed from the middle to the perimeter. Mine came out perfectly with no bubbles.

Yup - that's the one. Real carbon fiber.

Did the Scura have the original exhaust or Mistrals? 8 lb potential savings right there.

"under-sprung and over-damped", that was part of Colin Chapman's formula for making Lotus the best handling cars on earth back in the day. Of course, developing super lightweight packages helped quite a bit as well (not part of Guzzi's formula) [emoji16]

Just installed a new set of these on my 03 Le Mans. I put them on my Scura about 8 years ago and they really make a difference. They are now discontinued, but I emailed Customer Service and they located the old V11 template and were happy to make a pair. If interested, call Customer Service at 775-783-5110. The model # is on the second photo.

From a 2003 V11 Le Mans with 12k miles. These are in good working condition and no dents. There is a small rash mark on the right side one as shown in the photo. $60 for the pair plus $35 shipping within the continental US (sorry, but it will cost at least that given weight and length). I will consider just selling one if that's all you need.

So would "reduced exhaust flow rate" be more acceptable? -

As I am a person happily in a constant state of learning, kindly shed some light on your exception to the term back pressure. Much appreciated. -

I'm hoping someone on the Forum has actually installed one of these and can give a first hand report. Meanwhile, I'll give Gordon a call at MG Cycle and see if he can provide some additional info. -

...that's kinda what I was thinking. -
Was curious if anyone has any experience with this plug and play bit from MG Cycle. Claims to reduce popping on deceleration and improve throttle response with Mistral slip-ons installed. I'm wondering if it is an oxygen manipulator like I have on my Ducati S4R (essentially enrichens the mixture by telling the ECU the ambient air temp is colder than it actually is). Only problem is it only works in open loop, so doesn't help at idle or less than 8% throttle position/low rpm. Interesting note (but no surprise), my 03 Le Mans runs great with the Mistrals when I have the db killers installed, but I get popping and coughing at low rpm with them removed. Seems they provide just enough back pressure to make the injection and combustion happy. But if the VTwin Boost gizmo would allow me to remove the db killers and run a K&N filter with the Mistrals for a bit more air and hopefully hp, that would be worth it.

Ok great, please PM me with your info, and I'll send you my PayPal info, etc. Thanks

Brand new, never mounted Hepco Becker rear rack system with hardware and instructions. Surprisingly lightweight. You can still buy these new at Moto Machines for $275. Came with my Le Mans, and I won't be using it. Yours for $175 (plus $20 shipping within the continental US). Or free pick up, I'm located in the Philadelphia area.

...and date I ask what years they were made?

Ugh, I'm going to have to be that guy and take the bullet. What does CARC stand for? I've wondered for too long and couldn't find the answer...
