Triskaidekaphobic South'n Spine Raid 2017
nobleswood replied to Josh's topic in Meetings, Clubs & Events
I'm seconding this idea! Bikes & riding are therapy. Got to have one running while you curse at the broken one ! -
Docc, Here's a quote for you; 'And that is exactly what the proponents of Moto Guzzis like so much about them. "They have character," they always say; shorthand for "cantankerous," sure but if that were all, Guzzis would be rusting in barns and not plying the roads twenty or thirty years after their births. They are like us - receptive to extraordinary improvements but never made perfect: full of torque and rumble; requiring a fair amount of care but always returning the investment in full. ' And my favorite: ' Guzzis appeal to the middle - aged rider who is not too racy, but plenty individualistic...They attract tinkerers, people for whom good enough is never good enough, for whom the rituals of necessary maintenance are secret joys, and for whom a professional mechanic is a figure out of a story book' And the last one: 'When you buy a Moto Guzzi, you don't just buy a machine that goes fast, looks handsome and has a one year warrenty on parts and labor. You buy a thousand friends.' The Perfect Vehicle, by Melissa Holbrook Pierson

Great documentation Scud! I've always had a difficult time figuring out how all the parts mesh together. Only ever took apart the engine & transmission on an original Mini. It never ran again ! Did you find /photograph wear on the gears while you were in there ? Still learning about what is acceptable.

Gratuitous Pics of Girls + Guzzi

I forget how scantily clad those bikes are. All business, everything on display -
Congratulations Bill, An early Birthday present; the best kind.

I was suspicious about the low price. It's got 20,000 miles & maybe they're concerned about the longevity of the clutch. But as Scud said, as a parts bike thats a good deal. You could almost pay that much for the Ohlins. Scud, we accepted you're distraction with the 'Greenie' episode. But maybe it's time to move back to the 'Dark Side' & sell it. We won't have to talk about it again. : )

Saw this on WG. https://amarillo.craigslist.org/mcy/6135438796.html Could do with rescuing.

Not a guzzi but ...
nobleswood replied to voycie's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
I don't know anything about this model or engine. That said I just worked on my Griso with a similar sounding noise. That was down to a camchain tensioner not getting enough oil so it couldn't get up to pressure to tension the camchain. If the bike has been standing there could be a buildup of sludge in a hydraulic component that is causing the item to not work as designed. Good luck -

Chocolate peanut butter ! Good God man ! That's going too far ! That's dessert not beer. -
Man you're selling a 2004 with under 2000 miles. I'm beginning to think 3 is a good number for me. Now if it's a Red one......

After seeing your picture I'm thinking I need a refresher on 'What a lean plug looks like' & or starting a thread called 'What you can deduce by looking at your plugs'. Cos there have been times I've looked at the plugs or the exhaust valve when the headers are off & wondered what could you tell me if I could just read the signs.

I just got in from my Sunday ride on the twistys and had an experiance that fits with this thread. Rolled through a small town, past the gas station where there were 2 Speed Triples refuelling. We nodded to each other. Bit further down the road I pulled off to water the shrubbery. The 2 Speed triples pulled up. They had never seen a Guzzi before, only read of them, but recognised the Griso as it went by. Commenting on how they liked the Guzzi V engine sound they'd heard as I accelerated out of the town. They asked to hear it started up as we stood there. Grinning at the torque shake of the motor as your rev it, very different to the smooth triples. I'm still enjoying my Guzzi's, it's like learning to dance. It takes practice but when you get into that rhythem it's soo good! Yes there are faster but they do define, somewhat, to what you want from the riding experience.

2002 v11 Scura electrical issues....need help
nobleswood replied to plexiform's topic in Technical Topics
Just a digression & comment; Recently took my Griso in to a dealer to deal with a 'top end tappet' noise. Two weeks went by. At that point they had identified it was a 'top end tappet' noise, but were waiting on the Guzzi rep to tell them what to do. Sad exasperated emoji here. Back to the Scura: a bunch of enthusiasts posting questions & photos. Getting answers. Putting up details of how someone else fixed that problem. This is a Great forum ! -
That's cos she's a Red V11 !
-
Fitting the Roper plate is so easy to do. I would wait until the next oil & filter change but after that you have no valid excuse !
-
Rest up so you can get to the Western NY rally in a couple of w/e's
-
Great job, looks very sharp. I guess we have this years SSR Tech session ; Docc installing new gauges on a random V11 !
-
I wasn't certain of the difference berween the V11 engine & the later Griso engines, but threw the idea out there. Pete's explination closed off that possibility though. Looks like you had covered that potential problem with new gaskets anyhow.
-
I'm going to throw this out there cos the sound is very similar to what I was chasing down with my Griso. A loud tappet like noise on the RH side. Following a suggestion from the guys on GrisoGhetto I took off the sump & spacer which is where the oil pick ups & plumbing lurks. There I found a torn gasket that would seal the oil gallery that feeds the top end. So creating a drop in pressure. To orientate heres the bottom of the engine Worth a look

I had to replace my ITI gauge a while ago but don't remember the knob causing a problem dismantling. The unit minus bezel is in the garage, I'll have a look tonight. If you need any parts you can have the old unit.

I've been meaning to re-work the fender on my machine for years but haven't made it happen yet. Thanks for the additional pictures
