Cam/timing sensor could use a fresh #112 O-ring? Thanks Docc & Scud. Thanks to all; making me a better mechanic one problem at a time. Have a Great Christmas !

It's the R H cylinder to the Griso. I had a relaxing afternoon getting to know her better, undoing panels, trying to tighten up sections. Looking to see what the previous owners had changed. Curiously, like my V11, there is a weep /leak on the LH of the front of the engine at the timing cover. Other than that everything appears tight. Many of the fuel & breather hoses have been replaced, the one in the picture is an exception. Which I'll sort out soon. I had taken those clamps apart before but couldn't reassemble them which I'd assumed was because I didn't have the specialized crimping tool. I guess that isn't the case. Somewhere I read that the BMW hose clamps don't 'cut' into the rubber as much as screw clamps. Anyone confirm this ? At the moment I'm still looking & trying to see where all the parts & hoses go. Obviously having a V11 helps a lot but there are still many unknowns. I have the owners manual & a service manual but there are sections not covered at all, like getting to & greasing the swinging arm bearings. It seems parts of the vapor recovery system have been removed like many V11's. Reading / lurking on Grisoghetto is helping identify many of these jigsaw puzzle pieces. But as yet I'm waiting on 'registration' from the admin guys so I can't see the pictures ! It seems the PO had adjusted the suspension, forks are up 6 notches above the top brace, the rear preload has the Spring compressed about 3/4 of it's adjustment. I haven't figured out where the damping settings are adjusted to yet. The tyres, Michelin pilot 4's, are months old and have a couple of hundred miles on them. All in all I'm pleased with the purchase, no buyers remorse and am looking forward to the Spring. Although the idea of cleaning all the spokes on the wheels ! What was I thinking!

Chamberlin, Increase your odds of a sale by putting an ad on WildGuzzi as well.

The picture I showed was a good example of the clamp. Here's the hose I want to replace It comes off the back of the RH cylinder head. The rubber is cracking, I imagine it's a breather line.

For a living I make Furniture, built in furniture, stuff designed by Architects & design as well. And I am well aware that sometimes I have spent so much time on a project that I loose sight of if it actually looks good. That I have lost my objectivity. Looking at these 2 custom bikes; I can admire the workmanship & the skill involved but find the overall result, 'Meh.' Maybe I just need a beer ?

Tom, I like the stripped back look of the Santiago bike you put up. But why the single front disc & conventional forks?

I'm always interested in how people, skilled people can take the muscular lines of a V11 & refine it. Admittedly this is Gheezi - Brian but still. http://norfolk.craigslist.org/mcy/5900691785.html Love the lines of the tail section.

AFAIK, this was never an issue with the Sport/LeMans V11 motor . . . This. I respectfully disagree. No less than Dave Richardson told Greg Field to "run SG rated oil in your Guzzi." He passed that on.That's good enough for me. Dave Richardson has a paragraph in Guzziology specifically on SG rated oil.

Pete, Over the winter, in the shed, I'm going to go over it and try to set up the suspension, with the original equipment. But as Chuck can testify, I'm still learning. And like 'Ohiorider' Bob I only weigh 175 wet ! He's only a couple of hours away & if he gets another Griso I go visit to pick his brains as well.

It's a 2013 1200 8V SE, roller tappets. 13600 miles. The previous owner had owned Guzzi's in the past, seemed to know his way around working on motorbikes. Seemed to be moving more towards cruisers in his, ahem, greyer years. He had bought the bike from his friend who on moving to Philidelphia from NJ, decided he wanted a Triumph Tiger ADV to cope with the potholes. It was a fly & ride, so he had confidence in the bikes condition. Then had it for the summer. I only had the one ride & my initial impression is that you sit more 'in' the bike, it feels lower than my V11 & drops into the corner quicker. But I noticed the forks are higher in the top clamp than the manual states, so that could explain that. The motor is the part that creates the biggest grin, spinning up smoothly & with a glorious howl ! There might be clear weather for a ride but I'm expecting to have the bike in the shed until the Spring. Then I can ride the two bikes side by side & compare suspensions.

I'd often wondered about the Griso's. The 2 owners I'd met had big Grins on their faces when they talked about their bikes. Pete Roper sold 'the Mighty Scura' and bought one. So one came up on Craigslist not 1/2 mile from me! What could I do? It was an answer from the Gods. Now it's mine. Took it for a ride on a clear but 38 degree day. I can see now why those owners had big Grins on their faces ! Looking forward to Spring

Had success at this years Spine Gathering tuning my bike. Rather others tuning my bike for me. After I got home & re-set my valve clearances the idle speed went up from the 1200rpm we set it to, as Docc predicted. So having bought the cables, downloaded Guzzidiag & now can see the program working with the bike running, the idle is at 1450rpm. Newbie question ; how do you adjust the values , like the idle, through Guzzidiag ? I've been pushing & prodding but haven't figured that bit out.

Chuck, I appreciated you letting me ride the Scura to get to feel what the Ohlins do for the suspension. It was an eye opener.

Twelfth South'n Spine Raid 2016

Thanks to everyone there for a great event! I had heard from several people before I got to the area that it was hard to find a boring road there. Naturally I was skeptical, but they were right! From the renowned ‘Tail of the Dragon’ to my favorite The Cherohala Skyway, 51 miles of curves! If any of you got to ride The dragon, look through the photographers websites; 129slayer Killboy.com These professionals were set up on different corners along the road & took pictures of almost everything that passed through it seemed. You can sort by Day & approximate time. Thanks to everyone’s help with the Tech session; which Docc has nicely summarized and added in the links to pages & where to find those cables. It amazed me how much stuff people had brought. We had at least 2 laptops with GuzziDiag, JRD had a cable to set the TPS, Wayne had a set of vacuum taps & a throttle body balancer. So my Bike & Nick’s got a helpful going over. Wayne & Docc coaching me through the procedures, which don’t seem so daunting now. -

This was where Dan ( on the right ) had the bike hooked up to GuzziDiag & we were having a look at what it was telling us. Wayne is in the background having just sorted out Nick's bike's longstanding problems with the push of a few buttons ! Great stuff. Although next year I'm bringing some fans to donate to the garage. -
Scud My 700cc Kubota 2 cylinder diesel tractor has a modest battery & a de-compression lever to get it going

Tractor in a cocktail dress made me think of growing up in the countryside & farm girls at summer barn dances !

Help...shifting, clutch, and stalling in gear issues
nobleswood replied to bobbysworld86's topic in Technical Topics
When I bought my 2004 Sport with 6000 miles, Curtis @ Harpers had already been into the driveshaft & bevel box to lube what was missed at the factory. So probaly a good idea. -
Help...shifting, clutch, and stalling in gear issues
nobleswood replied to bobbysworld86's topic in Technical Topics
I'm sure experienced Guzzista's can bleed the clutch without removing the rear wheel. However, I pull the wheel & still find it to be awkward. While you're there you can bleed & clean the rear brake assembly as it's often neglected. -
Fitting one of these could be Docc's tech session at this years SSR

Put me down for one. Thanks Chuck

Chuck, Now that you've got the Scura back to the Mid - West you'll have to enjoy it on some the SE Ohio roads. -

Ha ha =) So we'll have a recovery vehicle. Or does that make it too much like a HD rally ! :0
