  1. Hey, I was wondering if you could describe how snugly the tube part on the flanged end of the spine fits into the back side of the "pork chop." Is it a very tight fit? You mention whacking the plates with a mallet to get them back on... Does this fit seem to add anything structural to the assembly, or is it really being held together mainly by the flange to plate bolt assembly?
  2. love it, I am totally stealing this idea.
  3. Your bike is ten years old now and those boots dry out, and get cracks. Get some fresh ones, and see if the problem persists.
  4. "how to identify odd bolts like the button head screws." use new hardware. I only torque stuff that is critical to safety.
  5. Run a tap through the threads with some WD-40 to chase out any corrosion, gunk etc. Spray some contact cleaner (PJ1 is the best) in there and blow the threads out with compressed air to remove any little bits of metal, corrosion, and to de-grease. Re-install the bolts with blue loctite. Torque using appropriate torque for the fastener size and material. Oftentimes the torque specified in the manual is wrong. Do not over-torque. Here is a good torque chart: https://www.fastenal.com/content/feds/pdf/Torque-Tension%20Chart%20for%20Metric%20Fasteners.pdf
  6. Camn - hate to say it, but it looks and sounds to me like he installed it wrong. Bbennett - is the length of the Rossopuro rod between pivot points the same as the stock one?
  7. yikes, that broken rossopuro bar incident looks scary. hard to say though if it's because of a flaw in the design, the installation was done wrong, or just an unlucky and rare defect in the bolt that apparently snapped. rossopuro and ghezzi brian are both experts. i have a real hard time believing they make poorly engineered products, given their experience and pedigree working with guzzi bikes.
  8. Not 10cm, 10mm.
  9. According to Ghezzi Brian: "Hi sp, don't worry about the push rod, the longer lenght lets the transmission work better thanks to the different angle" I'm sure they know what they're talking about (they designed and built the MGS-01 after all) but still would love to get some feedback on this.
  10. So, Rossopuro seem to have discontinued their beautiful billet cardan bar, I've been emailing them every three months or so to check in and every time they reply saying "sorry, not yet, hopefully soon, bla bla bla." In the meantime, I've been in touch with Ghezzi Brian, they still have their version of the cardan bar, which was part of the "Furia" package. For some reason though, they make theirs 10mm longer than the stock one. Curious to know what the opinions are on how this might affect the bike's geometry and handling. Would that raise the rear? Will it even fit? I have seen pics of it installed, so somehow I guess it does. Just makes me scratch my head, would like to get some thoughts on this. Thanks!
  11. Interesting. Could be a good solution. Since replacing my r/r and cleaning up all the main wires, my bike is pumping out plenty of juice, but it's good to know there's an upgrade out there. Might be a good idea to just buy it and have it on hand. I've noticed more and more aftermarket items for the V11 no longer being available, with the manufacturers discontinuing their products.
  12. search for ducati monster pegs on ebay. plenty of chinese ones availablw for cheap.
  13. I called Ohlins USA and they said they had no successor product. Made no effort to offer any alternatives. Saw one on Ebay France for about €1200.
  14. not really concerned with "bling", I just want top of the line performance, and the ability to service it. should be very reliable too. price-wise, it's on par with its competitors, but more suited to the style of riding I'm interested in, i.e. spirited highway riding and occasional track days, rather than sports touring. made in the USA is also a very good thing.
  15. "Why not? My motor is stock except pipes ( I think) , it easilly punches past that [135 mph] ." Unless you've made extensive modifications to both the engine and the transmission, I find it highly doubtful that your V11 "easily punches" past 135mph. The top speed as listed in the workshop manual is 137.5mph. The only way you could go faster is if you've increased the maximum safe RPM of the engine (and modified your ECU to allow you go past the rev limiter) and/or modified the gear ratios in the gearbox. Or if you are running a significantly larger diameter rear tire, which would be stupid. All sounds very unlikely to me. Unless you strapped your V11 to the back of a Lamborghini... (Sorry for going off topic.)
  16. Congrats man, looks fantastic! Now go get her dirty
  17. don't know anythings about those tires, but I can say that I'm very happy with my Avon Storm 2 Ultra rubber.
  18. Going with the Penske 8987.
  19. and even if they look fine, ten years later they are certainly dry rotted. mine were.
  20. So, just spoke with Mark at Markbilt Racebikes, with whom I left my bike for dyno tuning. He is an Öhlins suspension expert, and seems to think he can just build me a custom one to order, based on the parts he has available and the specs from the previous oem shock Öhlins used to make. He thinks it will not only be possible but less expensive than buying one from Penske. If it doesn't end up being doable, he does recommend the Penske shocks. I will know more next week.
  21. OP should ask the local HD riders what they use. Our Guzzi engines are pretty similar, just rotated 90º on the Z axis
  22. Amsoil makes 20w50 full synthetic, that's what I run: http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/motor-oil/motorcycle/20w-50-advanced-synthetic-motorcycle-oil/
  23. Eat some roast duck!
  24. Chamberlin, I have been following your restoration thread, and I think I even commented on it saying that it was comforting to see someone else diving so far down the rabbit hole, made me feel less crazy
  25. Denis, just got mine in the mail. Will be installing it at some point in the upcoming weeks. Please do post about your installation.
