Thanks to this thread I realize now that my bike is missing the nut behind the pivot bolt. First thing I did when I bought her was to replace the side stand which was bent so much that the bike was scary to leave parked anywhere and not on a paddock stand. Somehow the PO found this to be acceptable :-/ To my chagrin the new sidestand seems to be slowly bending as well. Probably because without the nut the pivot bolt starts to get loose and the sidestand gets some play in it. So thank you for bringing this up! The lesson seems to be, sometimes it is very necessary to beat dead horses...

Wasn't asking for you LowRyter, was asking for me. Looking at the photos up close, they appear to be identical, so if there is a difference it isn't apparent. Anyway, just so you know, €366 minus the 22% VAT which you don't have to pay of buying from and shipping to outside Italy, is actually a really big markdown: $388 vs. the $730 at MG Cycle. Who will also charge for shipping unless you plan on swinging by and picking it up from them.

I am curious, is there anything special/better/exotic about that agostini driveshaft vs. a new stock one? Is it lighter, or stronger, easier to service? Not being sarcastic, genuinely curious. The product description page doesn't offer any details about it. It is a little bit cheaper than the one on MG Cycle...

nice find!

at least with a new one you can install a straight zerk before putting it on the bike... good luck :-/

VERY pricey, but available: http://www.mgcycle.com/product_info.php?products_id=2454&osCsid=b634f48e6164e6127b7e49521ad39338 part number is 01358730 more links: https://www.google.com/search?q=moto+guzzi+part+01358730&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari

Got the GPR on, pics here: http://instagram.com/p/kBEh2aqddj/ http://instagram.com/p/kBEp-1qddu/ http://instagram.com/p/kBGXlcKdf1/ http://instagram.com/p/kBHz6-qdR_/ went on very easily. nice hardware fit and finish. could've provided some more bolts, but at least nothing was missing. really can't wait to fire her up, kind of annoyed that the bike is in such a state of disassembly right now. gonna be worth it though come springtime

Those look nice too! One of my biggest gripes with the stock cans from a visual perspective is that they hide too much of the bike's rear end.
-
love the red, only concern is that you'd have to clean it more vigorously than black, which would hide oily road grime, tar, and paint chips better. that part being so close to the ground and right behind the wheel, I imagine it would get dirty immediately and very easily, even in good weather.

believe me, I can't wait to hear it either. I'll be happy just to get it on next week, might be a little while before I fire her up though, she's in a state of undress at the moment... that ebay link looks like a decent option but a couple hundred bucks more than what I think you would get ordering directly. thise guys are adding their markup. write Mauro an email.

They don't have a US web store, you have to email their US sales rep: mauro@gpr.it He can take a day or two to respond, but he will get back to you. Go to the main site to browse the options, they have quite a few different style mufflers to choose from.

$329 shipped! EDIT 03/20/14: it appears as though GPR has now set up a website for the US market, no longer offering factory direct orders. Unfortunately the price has now also gone up...

got my GPR two into one last night. very impressed with the speed in fullfilling the order. shipped in less time than they estimated (10 working days after receiving the order) via DHL, which got it here from Italy and through customs in three days. first impressions: light! this thing weighs next to nothing - 5kg on the shipping manifest for the entire thing including all the packaging. very nice construction and materials. the interior of the muffler has two separate removable elements. the tip of the muffler can come off to give a completely open pipe. the two into one pipe has a threaded capped hole on it, presumably to attach a sensor for tuning. it attaches directly to the headers eliminating the crossover. hopefully there won't be too much wrestling to get them on. at first glance it doesn't seem like there's any mounting hardware for the pipe itself, only the muffler. the pipe is clamped to the headers. maybe that's what that threaded hole and bolt are for, if not then might need to fab a little bracket to mount it somewhere if it feels like it could use more support. I'm hoping to get some wrench time on tuesday, will report on my success/failures in getting this installed. picture of it here on my instagram: http://instagram.com/p/j2j_V1KdSE/

99.99% decided on red for the swing arm, red for the pillion cover a la SCole, anthracite for the hugger. I'm going to trim it down, there's much more plastic there than necessary. Gonna take some cues from the carbon fiber Stucchi Luigi hugger when I trim it: http://www.mgcycle.com/product_info.php?products_id=1842 Thanks for the input!

I'm pretty sure any porkchop from '99 to '02 would work. Did the porkchops change when they changed the length of the frame? If not, then any year would work. Color doesn't matter, condition of the paint unimportant, small surface blemishes either, I will be blasting and repainting anyway. Thank you!
-
"I like the red pillion pad cover..." yes, forgot to mention that. Gonna steal that idea too

the italian site is a little insane (as most italian sites are): http://www.gpr.it/ they have a few international outlets, these guys are in the UK: http://www.gpr-motorcycle-exhausts.co.uk/ I ordered direct from their US rep.
-
I just ordered the GPR 2 into 1 pipe, and their stainless steel "deeptone" muffler with removable baffles. Supposed to be pretty great. I attaches directly to the headers, eliminating the crossover. I should be saving a good 20+ lbs...
-
SCole, looks great! I'm going to steal your idea and paint my passenger peg/muffler mounts black too. LowRyter, hilarious

Just did a little photoshoppery, and I'm definitely digging the red... I think I will trim the hugger so that more of the frame shows between the attachment points. So what's better, or, what are the pro's and con's of powdercoating vs paint? I've read that paint chips are easier to fix and don't let moisture in, that powder coat can let moisture in and rust can develop underneath it. But powder is stronger to begin with, so chipping is less likely... Leaning towards paint right now, especially since I've got a good paint code for it.
-
The PO kept the original hugger, so I do have it now, just not reinstalled yet. It's an uninspiring dull matte-ish black that seems to attract dust well. I was thinking I'd paint it the same dark "anthracite" silver as my front fender. Right now I'm torn between red and light silver for the swingarm... I actually kind of do want to draw more attention to the rear end of the bike, I feel like the swimgarm and driveshaft seem to disappear back there. The tail piece and seat are so massive, it just looks a little top heavy. Anyway, thanks for the input. I'd like to hear more on paint vs. powder...
-
My swing arm is in pretty gnarly shape, because the previous owners remover the rear wheel hugger, because they didn't think it looked "cool" enough for their tastes. In my opinion, giant slabs of paint coming off due to rust underneath is much less "cool" than a rear wheel hugger... So I am going to have it repainted. I'm looking at it wondering if it would look better in something other than black. Can't really decide, so here goes: - leave it black - paint it the light silver ("argento") of the body work - paint it the dark silver ("anthracite") of the front fender - paint Guzzi red, like the frame And while I'm at it... Paint or powder coat? Or, the wild card, chrome plated??? Thanks guys.

Yeah, started looking up the parts, and that's going waayyyyyyy down to the bottom of my to-do list now...

I would like to swap out my '01 tank for one with an internal pump. Not so much for the chin pad delete (which would be a nice byproduct, it doesn't bother me too much but I'm not a huge fan either) but because I don't like the clutter of the external fuel pump. I have also heard that on hot days and long hard riding it can fail. I'd rather have the internal one. Other than a possible slight mod to the mounting points, is there any reason why this mod wouldn't work?
