"On Any Sunday" documentary 1971
footgoose replied to docc's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Ha, those guys in the opening shot look like the staff down at Best Buy. Great film too. I had to purchase that one. -
What came of the contact info I sent you last year? That one was truly the nicest one I've seen advertised for sale in north America since I started watching 19 years ago. At my best guess there are maybe 40 Tenni in the US..... Canada Idk?? Of the 170 world wide sales I would also guess that none came from the factory with the nice upgraded '03 semi gloss paint. If there are any '02 models in the '02 range with such I would be very surprised. The factory did offer replacement cases so there may be a few of those about, in the '02 model range. I do have however, first hand knowledge of Moto Guzzi's troubles with any sort of (US) customer service in '02, '03 when I tried vigorously to get compensated. I personally found that there was "no one to talk to." It would be interesting and informative to know the vin series run from the shite paint to the nice paint. Any of the nice ones from '02 would have been at the end of the run yes? But, then there are the many '03 "carry over" bikes which had the blistering paint. Knowing Guzzi, and their mish mash of parts and bikes, one might see an '02 with nice (oem) paint on motor cases I suppose. If there's one out there, I think you'll find it.

Shaved ice and a poke. hmmm where is this place?
-
I have zero confidence in anything substantive coming from this.

I didn't see anything said about the bi-section of the lens. Is the upper half for brights?

From a Rosso Corsa I parted. The vid is from the last time it ran before parting. I tried to show imperfections in the photos. A scratch and some fine stuff on the glass from too rough cleaning and the rest is on the inside from fog and dust. The back side is clean and no wobbly pieces. check p/n's ! $60. plus ship.

I have one from an '03 if you're interested. Looks just like yours, but check p/n's. Works and looks pretty good. A small scratch on the face and some "cleaning fuzzie bits" If you look close. The rest seen is on the inside, likely some fog and dust deposits. 25k mi. Used electronic parts might be good money after bad idk, but it's an alternative for you. I have pics and a video of the bike running just before I parted it out that I can PM if interested I just stuck the info in classifieds in case you don't need it.

if you haven't already Bob, see to the troublesome bullet connectors on the left side at the neck while you're in the harness.
-
Ha, neither was I

I'm with you on all this. Several HD's have come and gone in my garage and honestly they were more dependable, required less maintenance, and easier to work on than my Italians, and an endless support system and aftermarket. The torque was thrilling. Twisty roads.... not so much. (Except for my buddy's Buell XB9r)

Lovely time! I 'thought' a comment on every photo. Loved the 2a day. Thanks for sharing. Sambuca? is there a Dr Gonzo alter ego about? -
lol perfect avatar! it's a ww2 aircraft cowl... I'm guessing F4F maybe? Chuck?
-
agreed... first place to start.
-
This what you're going with? Seems perfect

Welcome X! Both beautiful bikes. this forum will be a great source for sorting the RC. The SUB link is interesting. The '81 LeMans seems reasonably priced.

I agree docc. I take a pragmatic approach to value and believe that value of a particular item is set at the point of sale. That doesn't help someone trying to decide what to ask. Face it, Guzzi is sort of an odd bike in the US, and spine frames are even more unusual. Real value is found in the passion of the buyer and the disconnect of the seller. Dealerships don't care so they ask for the moon. IMhO, one penny less than $3000 for your bike is giving it away and anything over 5k is flirting with high retail. That said, "there's an ass for every seat" a dealer friend once told me. Start high, see what washes up.

Exactly. Check the oil and tires... When I could remember to, & don't use the wrong brake fluid. Mine had the dual exhaust exit driver side just in front of the rear tire, meGod what a sound.
-
I agree with scud. I laid mine down and it cost me a few hundred to fix. (I did have some items in my pile of stuff) Leave the Ins Co out of it, if it truly is lite damage. Start here with a list of what you'll need and see what washes up. It'll leave you with a good title.... and a good story. See what they offer, I'll bet no more than 3k. Of course you might be injured.... so there's that to consider.

seems like a fair price. that's a 'before' liner photo?

Just buy one and get it over with Docc

yeah just personal preference. No functional problems. I guess I don't like esthetic "covers" in general. Though it would certainly solve the problem. I'm lucky with my tanks I don't need to pursue the sealant route to find out. I'd certainly have to feel good about the process before doing it. I don't recall seeing any bubbling on early tanks, only later ones. Anybody out there have bubble experience? This also has me thinking about the process of mfg of these tanks. Why some bubble, some not. Thickness of material throughout can't be consistent.
-
If I could get a replica aluminum tank like this one for under $2k I'd do it. I personally wouldn't like a tank under a false cover on the V11. The next route for me would be a standard tank dried out and sealed internally. It should not expand or bubble after that and any fitment problem that may still exist, make adjustments to the frame mounts.

Just something to put into your bag of possibilities. Looking back over this it seems that you get it going... and then it stops. I'm reminded of a very strange and - tough to find - problem I had a while back. Though my problem was blowing fuses, it was directly related to forward motion. Turned out the side stand safety switch wire blew up against the head pipe and melted, causing the fuse to blow. Then It dropped away and was good with a new fuse until I got up to speed and it shorted again. Took me a week to find it. Reading about your damaged sensor wires made me recall my problem and wonder. The same scenario may apply to a fueling problem if you have a filter that's coming apart and under increased flow is sending bits of crap down the line. On a side note if I may, you have a great attitude to this dilemma. It will serve you well getting to the bottom of the problem. I for one, likely wouldn't have reacted in quite the same positive way.
