  1. Welcome jw43. What are you riding?
  2. I remember that beer... are your Bro's coming too?
  3. Yowza! (that's American for 'now yer talkin') Great pics and story. "Astrophysicist and part time racer" I'll bet he was fun to have a drink with. the Macintosh bike is running a 19" front wheel. I thought the mid 80's saw a vision toward the 16"? Could you comment on the evolution of front diameter in racing?
  4. pursue it with an ad in 'classifieds wanted.' You never know what may turn up. I have had success there. My '02 LM came with a solid (not padded, not carbon) chin pad that can be pulled off like the black padded ones, so they are out there. If you can get a padded one cheap enough you might convert it to what you want. With the right bits I don't think it would be that hard to fabricate something. patience + example.. too much $$ imo but ... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Moto-Guzzi-V11-Sport-Tank-Chin-Pad/164192102045?hash=item263a9ca69d:g:Xw0AAOSw3axepyNW now that I think about it with all the mount points at the top of the early tanks a handy person could fab a piece of flat stock and space it up to desired height fairly easily, replacing the chin pad altogether. From there, add attach points for whatever.
  5. Is that an aftermarket head guard? looks like it. It appears countersunk at the bolt heads but if it's thicker than stock guard then the bolt will come up short of some threads, if using stock bolts. Even if that isn't a problem I wonder if there is enough depth in those holes to maybe get a bit longer bolt in. A couple extra threads couldn't hurt.
  6. Great. That option will leave the " handling" aspect as it was in stock configuration.
  7. sorry if I'm misreading this situation but I'll suggest it another way. Leaving all the upper stuff as is (but loosen the center pinch bolt on the upper triple clamp) then loosen the fork pinch bolts on the lower clamp, and slide the whole mess down through the lower clamp holes. The relation between the top of the forks and the upper clamp and your bar position will remain the same as it is now. The center cap bolt will go back as it was before you removed it. There should be no change to the cables fitting. This is essentially "lowering" the forks in the clamp, and raising the bike in relation to the road. Keep in mind you'll have to raise and brace the front of the bike and possibly remove the front wheel to do this. I've not done it without the front wheel off so I couldn't say for sure.
  8. I think you need to put the upper triple clamp back down where it was and use the original center cap bolt. Then lower the fork tubes in both the upper and lower clamps to achieve the same bar height position you have now. This position will slightly change handling as you are lengthening the forks, but I doubt noticeably.
  9. Just one for me Vic. sorry if I confused
  10. thanks Kindoy2. got pics of your kit by chance?
  11. k, I'll take one too
  12. just don't give examples of 'other vices' my girl's response was "so the options are motorcycles.... or strip clubs?"

    TLM Guzzi

I hear you. I wouldn't/couldn't build it. Wouldn't/couldn't buy it. Would repaint it, ride it and sell it if someone gave it to me. As far as genius goes, Einstein's early works likely weren't the best of his career. I find it refreshing and encouraging that talented engineering types are even in to motorcycling, instead of coffee bean grinders or hover boards. This is 'hot rodding'.This is art. It doesn't physically fit into my definition of 'cool', but what does fit cool is the bastard used his talent's and vision to create it. That is where I find practical and use. Masturbation is not a good word for this exercise in creativity. Practice is maybe a better one. He want's approval. He has mine, but I'll bet after seeing my credentials, he could care less. So many things come to mind that are useless and marvelous at the same time. This level of devotion is easy to defend.
  16. maybe blocked vent 'tank suck' ? was there a whoosh when opening the cap? or... I did have a similar experience to yours years back. thought it was vapor lock. turned out to be a failing (as in not completely failed) #5 relay. carry an extra or swap it with #1 if it happens again.
  17. thanks. left field is where I play... https://www.altberg.co.uk/boots/hogg-all-weather-original
  18. Far be it from me to deter any transactions on the forum. I always have something in 'Classifieds' and my pile of stuff does not seem to get any smaller. I don't sell these and I couldn't say if there are any left... I'm just ass ume ing. Just throwing out a friendly reminder of the Rusty Star Picket Project, the OP, and others', efforts to make these fine pieces available to us, with the designers blessing. I sold my extra one just before these came out... so will probably be needing another as I'm looking for yet another V11.
  19. post #1 of this topic
  20. Had to look up Helimot. Good folks it seems. I may have to get their gloves. Any experience with those? https://www.citybike.com/columns/uneasy-rider/fear-of-missing-helimot/
  21. yes, by 'similar styles' I should have said 'same style' similar construction. As in - a riser that uses the existing bar and fork clamp and just acts as a spacer. I don't see why any of the 22mm ones wouldn't work with the stock bars. Other examples are out there to see and I can't really recommend any. Consider it experimental I would check with these guys to see if the "bars 40mm" means the fork diameter. The V11 is 54mm. The 70mm rise is 2.75in and I would guess it would require new lines. While you're asking them, see if their bars are 22mm like the V11
  22. I don't see MPH risers with your options. I don't really know if they are still made. I had a set and did not install them as I found I like the stock config. The rise and pullback are modestly controlled by rotation. I know they can work inside the LeMans fairing without fouling. Many on the forum have used them. The best reason to use a riser of this type is retaining the lovely vibe reducing stock clip-ons. Pull one apart and look inside. The second best reason is you get to retain the unique and comfortable, classic Guzzi bar angle at the head. A lovely reach over the long V11 tank and a sight to behold... on or off the bike. Perfect wrist position for me. They came with longer hoses but I have read net info stating re-routing stock lines can get you there. I'd plan on new lines. There are other similar styles available .. anything with a 2" or so rise would likely work the same way.
  23. I'm down with all of that. Coffee and cake in the room then down to the garage. I'm just glad they're still having us inn. Thanks docc
  24. one of these might help on your lever ... https://gtmotocycles.com/products/gt-long-eccentric-folding-toe-peg I'm re-doing my levers now and will be using them to prevent tip over breakage. A smaller throw version ... https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/woodcraft-eccentric-folding-toe-piece?gclid=CjwKCAjw34n5BRA9EiwA2u9k36im21wCZJelA3hYzQLDuxIe-jU8gh_-qby3Al5p_mj5a4937rRutBoC9n0QAvD_BwE
