  1. The Pazzos are ordered. Funny, nothing was noted about the machining not being done on these. I like yours and will like them either way.
  2. Thanks Niels. Nice job and great photos. Where did you source the lights and sockets?
  3. looks like the '89 Transalp is the same weight wet as the '90 Africa is dry, so some weight savings there. That weight compares to that era R100GS non Paris Dakar, at 426. This illustrates that over 25+ years doesn't translate to a lighter weight bike. I have an R100/7 basket case.... possibly I should investigate a GS conversion? ...hmmmm, Lotsa parts out there.
  4. Some weights. "wet" is real world, but "dry" gives a better base line imo. These are dry, and are subject to interweb mistakes, and may vary by model, options (like abs), and year. I own the * 2 listed Suzukis. KTM 950 ADV 454 '06 DL1000 VStrom * 458 '11 Stelvio 472 '12 R1200 GS (non Adv) 461 '90 Africa Twin 452 '16 Africa Twin 458 '12 Super Tenere 520 '01 DR650 * 324 '04 Aprilia Caponord 1000 474 The obvious thing is that the 450lb threshold for a liter bike won't be broken by much, easily. The big thumpers seem to be the only way to whack off a big chunk of weight. Though I love the Super 10, it's out. Unless I my only consideration is touring. I would eye an older Africa, but they are rare. The newer ones are too new and don't fit my price point. edit Aprilia Caponord ETV1000 add
  5. I'm using my occasional and very modest tank swell to once again rationalize getting something cool. Unpainted, unpolished alm tank on the Tenni? I would have to make a space in the living room for parking.
  6. czakky, I think we determined awhile back that the clock needles can fade at a different rate. It appears so at least, on mine. Homeless with 2 Guzzi, not that awful
  7. On MotoMummy site, which bike did you order for? I like those. They don't have the signature machine swirls cut in.
  8. agreed Tim. As with other moto genre, adv, and adv bike are subjective I guess. I would ride the VStrom anywhere, any distance, on state hiways or dirt roads, but on roads. I had my Jeep many places in AZ back country that I wouldn't shy away from on the Strom. This could pass for an adventure if I camped. My DR650 is more capable than the Strom where your KTM is sitting, but lacks comfort for much distance. I could see using the 650 for the TAT sometime. I'm looking into some more improvements for the 650 to make it friendlier over hiway distance. A pumper carb, and a seat that's shaped more like a butt. Maybe it'll turn out right for me. I'd want a 250 for anything technical, and alas, the really rough stuff is for a younger man. The VStrom is going to go. I may still get a liter bike.. a GS maybe. So many bikes...
  9. heck, just fire it up and let it run. Sit me down nearby with a lounge chair and a beer.
  10. Really man, 2500 mi in 2 days is epic!
  11. I wasn't sure which way to go so I got one of these this spring. They are cheap and plentiful. Many are low miles. This one is an '06 with 17kmi. Runs and handles great. Lotsa power. Comfy. Can't seem to bond with it. The search goes on. DL1000 VStrom
  12. I'm thinking the RV is the sweeper
  13. Welcome Dieter! Spoken like a true Guzzisti! When you get the chance, share some photos of #64. We love our zinc chromate.
  14. How was the concert? It was great. She is beautiful, and in top form. She was warm, witty, funny, honest, energetic, and grateful. She sang most of the songs I wanted to hear. The contrast between her intimate and humble offerings juxtaposed with a sea of cell phone screens, was astounding. With the encore came "My California" which calmed the audience long enough for most to sit, stfu, and listen. Looks like she's coming to a blues festival near you at the end of this month. (28th, Kaiserslautern) Oct. 1 was her last stateside show till February. "My California", earlier this year
  15. Thanks for the research Scud
  16. Hi Lefty, Why didn't I think of that handle? I'd like to hear more about the KTM. I've been waiting for someone to start an ADV bike thread. Pics please
  17. Wait... the op was What newer Guzzi if you couldn't have a V11? This is a fantasy! I took this in the vein of Swooshdave's "V11 rivals". As great a bike the Sport 12 may be, it doesn't fit me. It's visual appeal is not my style. It's been said that a true love connection is a convergence of timing and chemistry. I don't see the passion or purpose in it's design. Others see it, I get that. There are plenty of great bikes that I will never own, for the same reasons. So in this fantasy, the V11 (my first Guzzi love) does not exist, and I must pick another, Griso bellissimo, soddisfazione!
  18. top of the threads, or at the O ring, 6 1/16" to the full, and 7 3/16" to the minimum. And thanks Chuck.
  19. I'd like to scavenge on to your thread to additionally determine how much oil to use since my install of the Roper plate. The thread link you posted states the poster now uses 4.5 qts after Roper install. Seems like a lot. When I get back home, I'll measure for you.
  20. So the "2 step" description could be seen as a 'leveling off' of sorts, till 4500 when the thrill kicks in? (link was a dead end). maybe not unlike my '69 Kaw Mach III 2 stroke triple that would bring up the front wheel at speed, much to the chagrin of my passenger. and... Are all (post '05) 1100's 2v per cyl (4V motor), and all 1200's 4v per cyl (8V motor) ? There is much flotsam on the web re: the flat tappet problems, and various comparisons, but many conversations leave out the basic details. And, is the Breva 1100 motor the same internally as our pre '05 V11 motor? Thanks for your patience.
  21. While you're at it Milar, could you address the "2 step 8V power band". What is that, and could you give any further insight to the differences in the 4V and 8V?
  22. For me that would definitely be the day I quit motorcycling. As if this thread wasn't hard enough already ... Of which day do you speak?
  23. I'm probably overthinking this, but the only way I can fathom "can't have a spine frame" is if they never existed. That said, I probably would have never been bitten by the Gootsie bug. I would have a BMW R1200s for sure. I might get one anyway, if a rare one ever gets near me. There would no doubt, be cat fights in the garage.
  24. Woodburn, mmmmyes! clicking on the photo reveals yet another photo. with a sleek early fairing. Beautiful! you should post that one too.
  25. I'm looking forward to following your adventure, riding and getting to know her. Welcome to the forum, and ... well ... may the force be with you!
